The 360 version is even prettier. Not generations prettier - but noticeably, eye-catchingly prettier. What you'll notice right away if you were to compare the 360 version to any others is the better, more realistic lighting, the added geometry, and the super high resolution textures. Simple things like the lush forest in the background, rock clusters, and simple cave structures show off a beautiful clean geometry. The Xbox 360 version supports upgraded characters and creatures, dynamic lighting and shadows, and Normal Mapping and Dynamic Specular Lighting on everything. It also supports better water effects. The T-Rex's upgrades on X360 enable Ubisoft's developers to pull off five texture passes, including the original pass, a tessellation pass, and a final mesh pass to increase a creature's volume, definition, and detail with no hit on the framerate.
When you play in the first-person mode you're Jack Driscoll (Brody), an actor in the movie in-progress. Seventy percent of the game is FPS, while the remaining 30% is played as Kong. We got to play three FPS levels, each showing off different aspects of the game. The game combines natural puzzles, combat, and exploration. Most of the levels we played focused on dual tension level design, in which you must defend a person or persons, while distracting or fighting off an enemy or enemies. If you've played Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers or Return of the King, you'll be familiar with this style of gameplay.
The organic level design, the gorgeous attention to detail, and the visceral impact of the sharp graphics and pounding audio will grab your attention and keep your riveted for many, many hours. Best thing? If you never saw the movie - you should have at least seen one of the versions by now - you'll get to play and finish the game in its entirety before the movie comes out in December.
