IGN: Will there be any gameplay differences between the U.S. version and the European one?

Kojima: We feel sorry for the America fans, but the European fans have to wait until the very end, and so to compensate for that we're going to add a few modes and some extra features for the European version.

IGN: Will we ever see those modes and features in America?

Kojima: In the past you've seen additional versions like Integral or Substance. It could happen, but we have no plans right now.

:(

I don't really mind as long as Konami of America releases the Euro version here. MGS3: Substance is coming and I'll buy it. I don't mind double dipping with this game!

Boomcha!

IGN: With all of the change to the gameplay, why is the camera the same system as before? Why aren't players allowed to move around within a first-person or third-person perspective this time?

Kojima: As the game is wrapping up the trilogy, I didn't want to change that. Metal Gear Solid is about the top-view camera, the corner-view camera, and the first-person view camera. The fact that the player can switch through these three camera angles and these three angles give cinematic views and that is something that I did not want to change. Another reason is that if I brought the camera right behind the character I myself would feel 3D sick while I was testing the game. (laughs) In the next game, MGS4, you might see a change in the camera system.

You mean like this? ;)

Yeah but they waste it on Unlimited Saga.

BTW I'd avoid reading all those intereview questions if you haven't played the game as there are some spoilers.

I heard he's coming to Europe in 4 months to show off the amazing new features himself ;) You can snatch your autograph then.

Seriously, Europe gets sth. special about once out of hundred releases. So stop crying. I bet the features will be minor things anyway. And the US is getting some extra Minish Cap stuff for compensation!!! :)

I know, I know. It's all in good fun.

OMGWTFBBQ! Europeans are SOOOO lucky to get a limited edition of Unlimited Saga! I'd be really jealous if Europe got special versions of The Guy Game, Drakengard, and Killzone...

I'm not bitter about the extra features at all, considering they have to wait another year if not longer for sometimes the same versions of games that we get, why not toss in a few extras?

Besides, I'm happy I experienced MGS3 sooner rather than later, even if it meant losing a few extra features.

Well said.

That's the spirit.

This one stuck out in particular after reading that interview :

Kojima: The series was turning into a radar game where you just pay attention to the radar and not use your visual senses or listening. That's what I wanted people to depend on instead of the radar so in the jungle I wanted people to listen to the grass moving or noise and so that's why I got rid of the radar.

He's right really - I know when I went through MGS2 it was hard to take my eyes off that radar. It took a helluva lot more planning and sneaking around in MGS3 to get things right.

Konami is going to release a substance version of MGS 3 in a year anyway. Sure it's speculation, but how many of you would be surprised. *Shoots anybody who raises hand*

Didn't Substance bomb? I bet they'll include the updates in the Greatest Hits version or something.

MGS2 is the game where I bought (almost) all the versions.

I had MGS2 (US)
Then MGS2 (PAL) came out with Demo Theater and Boss Fight, bought it.

Then MGS2 Substance (XB) came out. Bought it.
Then MGS2 Substance (PC) came out. Sold the XB version (crappy performance) and bought it.

Then I saw MGS2 Substance (PS2) at 20$ CDN, bought it.

I also have Document of MGS2.

Yeah it's bad.

Okay in my mind the only thing that would make a Substance version a lock must buy for me is if they expanded upon the CQC system and incorporated some moves
the boss does when she throws you around
.

In the overall picture it's completely unnecssary, as the CQC system is pretty efficient (some might say overpowered) the way it's laid out right now.. but damn it would just be too cool to toss guards around or disarm them like that.

That'd be awsome if they did that, but I doubt they will launch it as GH. Besides, I don't want the GH red strip tag on my cover. I'm not usually anal about the GH strip but I don't want it all over Shinkawa's artwork :P

Konami is really nice to Europe. Me like :)

MGS1 launched with a Silent Hill demo (did the US one do that?)
MGS2 launched with a bonusdisc and updates
MGS2: Substance launched with the Document of MGS2

Even ZOE2 was launched with updates. Special Edition so to speak.

Taken from the back of the cover:

Special Edition Futures:
The European Special Edition of ZOE: The 2nd Runner includes new gameplay sequences and polygon demos, a new opening demo, more secret extras, new 3D models and further improved graphics.

I'll just buy the Substance when/if it's released, and have both versions (and very likely the Japanese LE version too). There are small but nice differences between SOL and Substance that I think it's worth keeping both.

what's the difference between SOL and the one you get with substance?

02.12.04 - Konami communicates that Metal Gear solvent 3 Snake Eater is delivered in March 2005 in Europe. The PAL version is to possess several new play modes, among them a 'Duel mode, in which one denies the individual boss fights. In the 'Demo Theatre' one looks at oneself meanwhile the intermediate sequences of the play. Further exclusive equipment characteristics are planned, which are to be revealed however only in the next months.

:D

DAMN STRAIGHT.

Kojima is like Europes rogue boyfriend, sure he's late for our dates, but he always brings flowers and candy to say sorry.

I thought it was obvious I wasn't being entirely serious, since it's about the only time Square haven't treated Europe like shit (funny how they chose Unlimited Saga out of all games too). Hence the ;)

In all honesty, waiting one year or more for a US game to be released in Europe is rare nowadays. More like 1-6 months, which I still think is way too long though. MGS3 is "only" 3 months late, but I already imported it and have no regrets about that.

Still, I really appreciate the effort Konami puts into their big European releases. They've been doing it with games like Silent Hill 2, MGS2, ZOE2 and now MGS3. They missed out on Silent Hill 3 though, but were nice enough to release it in Europe first.

The extra features will be

*more codec conversations! extra long

*more numerous history lesson segments giving you greater context as to WHY Snake is sneaking about breaking people's necks.

* crazier camera angles to make the game even more challenging.

* A PAL option that DOESN'T DO ANYTHING.

* Fruity European languages.
