IGN Posts BF4 Comparison Video

All of this does make me want the PC version, but I think I'll wait for the PS4 so I can flip the bird to Origin.

Is that seriously Lil' Wayne?

But yes there is a difference, weird to see IGN come through like this and not DF

Game looks incredible on next-gen consoles. I can't believe it runs at 60fps. I'm a PC player myself but I'm very surprised at the PS4 (especially) graphics.

I'm interested to know if the sharpening filter is part of the game engine or if it's part of XBO's hardware/OS, because it's a pretty good way of tricking most people into believing that IQ and detail are better than they are.

The aliasing is very apparent on the X1 version.

With higher res and more consistent frame rate and better AA the PS4 version is the obvious winner.

That said if you are committed to the X1 you are still getting a decent enough version of the game, the extra expense is what makes it seems all the worse.

This footage looks like a way better comparison. The colors and black levels are much more equal across the two platforms. The only thing that really caught my attention were the jaggies in the Xbox One version. Sadly(or lucky?), I don't have the money to buy a big enough TV that only increases the visibility of the jaggies from my viewing distance.

Curious how multiplats will look like one year from now, when devs have more knowledge about both systems.

Just to offer a dissenting opinion I couldn't tell which one looked better. But to be fair I have pretty bad eyesight and am not good at picking up on differences in resolution. Maybe it would be more obvious on a big screen.

Wow. I wasn't sure what to expect. There are times when I can't tell that much difference, but there are others, particularly in MP, where the difference is night and day. PS4 MP might not look amazing but the XB1 MP still looks absolutely terrible by comparison at times.

LMAO @ this IGN comment.

Hey guys, I found the setting on my TV to make the colors more vivid

But I'm having trouble finding the option in the settings to remove the jaggies.

Can someone help me out here?

I'm one of those guys who piss and moan about differences in frame rate and even sometimes resolution. But this shit is clear as day.

Ok guys but I m still seeing the ps4 version blurry as ps3 versions of games were. Did they put some awful blurry AA technique on the PS4 ?

Seriously underwelming, and not just the console versions. Even the PC version does nothing to wow me. To me Ryse and Killzone are more impressive.
Looks like i get to save $100.

Hate me, but I feel the exact opposite. Not that I shouldn't have known knowing the actual specs of both of the new consoles.

I think rather what I expected 7 to 8 years after last gen started was just something more than what we are actually getting.

I feel so bad with this thought processes though like I'm in too much of a hater mode right now.

Then you should buy Killzone.

As someone who has both pre ordered and had both this gen, I can clearly see the blurriness in those PS4 vids. Something I noticed this gen, was in NBA 2K. On ps4 it was blurry, but when playing the 360 version it was like you were lifting a coat of vaseline off the screen and seeing it in all its crispness. Now, if this is in fact an issue with the PS4s internal scaler, it won't matter when playing native 1080p games. Will there be an option to run games in their native res and let the television scaler do the work (my tv actually has a good scaler)? Will a tv even accept a 900p signal?

Umm, a scaler wouldn't be used if native 1080p on a 1080p set.

Thats exactly what I just said

What I was asking was for games like this, that run at 900p and suffer from the blurriness, will we have the option to bypass the ps4's scaler.

I don't think the PS4 version is using its own scaler, the scaling is software based according to DF, also very little AA in the XBONE version, probably to try to keep the frame rate at a decent level.

We don't know yet how the PS4's scaler is going to perform, what you see here in this game as "blurriness" is the AA implementation, 900p to 1080p should be a fairly easy job, no game has done it yet on PS4, so don't panic before time.

That does it. X1 version wins.

With no word, did I imply that the X1 version would be better, but motion blur really has not place in a MP shooter that runs at 60 fps. Everything else goes to the PS4 version.

The Vaseline effect, which I agree is visible in the PS4 is probably from the AA solution, it's still better then what seems to be nearly no AA on the X1 version. It will not get clearer if you're PC scales it and I would assume that both consoles include a more then decent scaler.

As far as I'm aware, the 'scaler' in the Xbone and PS4 is the GPU (like in PCs). So they are the same, as both are based on the same GCN series AMD tech. They don't have separate, dedicated scaler chips in.

If for whatever reason, the AMD GPU blurs the image when scaling native 900p to 1080p, then this will be apparent in all the Xbox One games that are 900p.

Ok thanks. I got to this thread late so I was reading about the scaler early on. I probably missed where that was debunked.

Too many fucking jaggies in Xbone version.

But images sometimes look crisp in SP mode of Xone as compared to PS4 version.

I don't think its been debunked, but just assumed the Xbox has some amazing scaler due to the recent Xbox Architect interview with DF where they say the One has a much better scaler than the 360. Truth is, both the 360 and One use their GPU for scaling, just like the PS3 and PS4 use their GPU for the same thing,

MS originally claimed the ANA chip was a scaler, which meant the 360 had an advantage over the PS3 which didn't have a dedicated scaler. But they eventually confirmed that the ANA chip (and the HANA chip which replaced it in later models) was just a video out. The scaling was always done on the GPU.

http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/hardware-test-xbox-360-elite-review?page=5

The only other major change under the bonnet is the new HANA video display chip, replacing the old ANA version in the classic 360. This chip has erroneously been described as the silicon that deals with the 360's inbuilt hardware scaling. In truth, Microsoft has now confirmed to us that it's merely a video output chip - a means of transferring the framebuffer into all of the different signals: composite, s-video, RGB SCART, component, VGA and - the key addition with HANA - HDMI. Scaling itself is actually performed by the Xenos GPU (most likely using a variation of Lanczos resizing) so in that respect the Elite performs identically to the original Xbox 360.

That screenshot looks bad. It's right when the game loads up and to me, as the video continues they look similar. Everyone else must have much better eyes than me cause I truly don't see a significant difference between the two. From screenshots, yes, PS4 looks a little better, but in motion, it's barely noticeable.

Differences are minimal I agree.

All the comparison vids show miniscule differences. Even less difference in motion.

All these Battlefield 4 videos just make me appreciate Killzone Shadow Fall that much more. I was expecting Battlefield to blow me away, but I suppose I should look to Killzone for that feeling.

Also, I actually like some of the Xbox One shots. But that multiplayer picture of the wall is really bad.

If MS's "strategic partner" can release a game with this much difference in resolution and effects it doesn't look good for Xbox one this generation.

MS better hope someone makes a game for kinect that makes people think its the second coming of the Wii.

Without a kinect system shifter Xbox one is done.

My brother just tried the beta on pc he has a amd 7970 graphic card and said the game isn't looking that special.....

lol wat

Check some of the PC screens in BF4 OT

Hmmm, my eyes are terrible but I am not seeing a great deal in difference although I imagine this is something better seen in person.

Killzone looks so much better than this game btw
.

This is what I take away from these Battlefield threads.

mp on both suck eggs and overall this is software where tools are still evolving and developing. 2nd tier games will look phenomenal. I can't wait.
