IGN Quake 4 Review

I say bomba.

Regardless of what their review says, if the framerate sucks, it's a bomba (damn that sounds stupid).

Seriously, based on the GS video review, the framerate IS really awful. The XBOX port of Doom 3 ran far smoother than this terrible port (though this is more visually accurate). I think Q4 is actually a pretty decent game, but it seems that the 360 version is not worth playing.

This SHOULD have been 60 fps. There is no excuse here. NONE. If it were a solid 30, I could at least accept it to a degree...but the state it was released in deserves NO support from consumers. They f*cked up.

well.... that GS review is suspect, he kept going on and on and on about how it looked "A WHOLE LOT BETTER" on the pc.. like there is some huge difference... and having played all the way through Q4 on my pc with the graphics maxed, i can tell you he is flat out lying... the difference is minimal (and i mean, very minimal). but the way he makes it sound in that video review is like there is this huge difference and the pc version looks ton better somehow.

i swear, that guy is the worst reviewer ever... not that i mind q4 scoring low, i just hate it when a pro reviewer exagerrates a lot, just because the have personal axes to grind.

granted, the framerate isn't locked on the 360 version, and he should take off for that, but to tell gamers there's this big difference in graphics, and that they should update their PC to top of the line status and play the game on it instead is just fucking asinine. i couldn't believe he said that shit.

Understatement of the year. It's asstastic. They might as well have ran it on the original XBOX.

Seriously though, folks can point out Tony Hawk and GUN as shitty launch examples (And they would be justified), but Quake IV is the true bomba of the first batch.

As far as "bombs" go its pretty fucking good. Quake 4 on the PC was bliss its such a shame they couldnt stomp this out well with the superior 360 platform.

Quake 4 is a better mindless shooter than Doom 3 was. Still a mindless shooter though! :D

I really loved the Stroggification cutscene though, very gory!

The original XBOX handled Doom 3 beautifully, though. The framerate was pretty much a rock solid 30 fps (with a rare bit of slowdown).

Oh, I didn't mean to compare it to Doom 3 XBOX (Which I enjoyed more than the PC version actually. . which was odd). What I meant was that it just seems like it's not running on 360 hardware.

See, you can point at Tony Hawk and Gun and say "That's not next-gen!" but at least they both run cleanly. You can't say that about Quake 4 :(

Eh, I would say the some of the X360 version's texture are a little more washed out compared to when I saw it running on a super, duper PC....but I think the big scope is simply the framerate issue...Ask yourself. You take one game. Same graphics from a standstill visual point. Two systems. On one system (ie top of the line PC) it runs nice and smooth, on the other system (ie. xbox360) the frame rate dips down to what I think is about 15fps in some parts. Overall, which one looks better, is more impressive. Of course, the one that runs silky smooth.

If you want to see how the game runs, just check out the three movies I posted earlier tonight. If you have GSComplete, even better since the hi-res downloads run at 59.94fps, the same output of the Xbox360 so any slowdown you see is the exact same slowdown the game is outputting. You can easily sense the slowdown in the streams (700k or 300k, since they run at 30fps) or in the low-res MPEG download (30fps), though...the slowdown effects the game so much at points the entire game starts slowing down, sound included.

When I saw the first level load I thought it looked great, but some textures were a little washed out compared to the super duper PC I saw it running on awhile back...but that wasn't a big deal...it's when he started running around that I was shocked. Wowzas.
