today, EA and Maxis are announcing the first of these add-ons called The Sims 2 University. That's right, your loveable little kids are going to get to grow up and make their way to college. Not only will it open new doors for them socially and professionally, but it will also add a whole new section of "life" to enjoy. Young adulthood is a precious time of partying and discovery, the hallmarks of going to college.

The Sims 2 was released, what, two months ago? I wonder sometimes how much content PC game developers deliberately withhold from their games in order to save it for expansion packs.

Most non-EA Studios release expansion packs for free, ala Epic and Bonus Packs. Of which I don't have a problem with.

It's strange how I loved SimCity back in the early 1990s, and now I wish for nothing more than to see this franchise just rot.

thats cool, Sims 2 is a great base to build upon, its hope the expansions offer enough to warrent 29.99

I imagine this is just the beginning of a long string of expansion packs. There is a bunch of stuff in the game where it looks like a producer just stopped development on that feature and said - no, we'll put that in an expansion pack.

This is pathetic, and terrible for the industry. I really hope the expansions bomb, but I know they won't. It wouldn't be so bad if they were only say $10, but a few new features are not worth 3/4 the price of the original game.

There are actually two. They've split up the dev teams and have been working on both add-ons simulataneously. They started two weeks after release.

Eh? Generally whatever is written on an internet forum is an opinion. I just don't like games getting "expansions" a month after they come out. Is that alright with you?

SimCity != Sims. But yeah this franchise milking is starting to become pathetic, and I thought the Street Fighter days days were bad. Oh well as long as it continues to sell I suppose.....

i wish consumers would stop being stupid and continue to support EA when they're so obviously throwing shit at them.....

And a lot of people think McDonalds is shit but they'll still eat it. People are attracted to the brand more so than the product.

I don't mind the expansions as long as they add something good to the game. The original game is already huge enough.

The EA hate is strong in this thread....

The problem is that the expansion packs for the first Sims game offered only incremental enhancements. EA split the atom by dividing the expansions into ~seven parts.

I wouldn't mind the expansions if Sims 2 added to the the content in the last version of Sims 1 not take a bunch of shit out (i.e. carrer paths, custimzing options of community lots, objects, community object, pets) just so you can sell it back to the player for $30 every 3 months. Not to mention the game feels like a second phase beta with all it's bugs (Invislible sims, Floating Teddy Bear, Pooing away friendships <found that one>, good and bad insparations conflicting, horrible path finding, horrible AI, not being able to accept food delivery, etc etc etc....go to thesimsresource.com forums look up bugs have fun). I find it funny that if a game that wasn't highly anticipated had far less bugs and quicker loading time (not hard) it would have gotten 2's instead of 8, 9, & 10s. GI isn't the only one who writes reveiws telling people what they want to hear.

BAGH!
