Ever since the original Battlefield 1942 released back in the summer of 2002, EA and DICE's large-scale multiplayer warfare series has consistently been among the most critically acclaimed and popular first-person shooters ever made. Thanks to its constant reinvention, Battlefield has felt forever fresh, cycling through a number of different eras and locations, pushing the player count to support over 100+ players on the map at once, and bolstering its core multiplayer-first design with singleplayer narratives that cover some of the grittiest aspects of warfare. All this considered, it's really no surprise that Battlefield is still holding strong after two decades, even if it's had a couple of missteps along the way.
Whether you're a fan of the series' original WW2 setting, enjoy the modern warfare eras, or prefer to fight on the frontlines of Miami's drug war, there's something in this series for everyone. But which game is the best? That's what we're here to find out. With the heated firefights of Battlefield 6 on the horizon, let's look back over the series and choose the top 10 Battlefield games.

This list is garbage even by IGN standards. Fucking Hardline in the top 10 but no Vietnam? Battlefield 2 barely in the top 5? BF3 called the "pinnacle of the series"?

Battlefield 2 is still my favorite of the ones I've played, but I dropped the franchise after Battlefield "1".

Putting that one above BF2 is a travesty by itself imo.

Fucking Hardline in the top 10 but no Vietnam?
I really enjoyed the Hardline campaign, including it's silly usage of 'stealth handcuffs'.

It's biggest issue is that it should not have been called a Battlefield game. Hardline felt like Visceral wanted to make a new IP in the style of a Sam Hill/Michael Bay 2000s buddy cop drama. Explosions, cool chases, obligatory boat scenes, orange color grading…you know the type.

I mean, for crying out loud it had a CSI Miami-style intro lol.

And it would also do the 'previously on…' like each mission was an episode of a show. It's up there as one of the most fun 7s I've played. It's a real shame that it didn't catch on for it's own series of sequels.

What a shitty ass list, dude should be fired just by leaving Vietnam out of the list, and not even mentioning Bad Company 2 Vietnam which was also one of the best DLC of a multiplayer FPS ever imo.

My GOAT is Bad Company 2, BF3 and BF1 are tied for second. BF4 should be way lower, it's a good game now but people should never forget the sorry state it released in, ranking it above 1942 is a crime.
And despite my grievances with V, I do think it deserves a spot on the list instead of the likes of 1943 or Hardline. The game introduced really good ideas and mechanics to the franchise.

2142 was/is (? I don't know or care anymore) awful and Hardline was hated by the community, even tho I liked some of the MP maps, swap either for BC2 and you have decent list

The Goats: BC+BC2+BF3+BF4

I'll accept BF2 or BC2 as the best in the series. BF3 was good, but it marked the downturn into the "modern error". BF1 was the odd man out there - it was legitimately terrific, despite the god-awful marketing.
