[IGN] Xbox Isn't The Only One Rethinking Console Exclusives

Seems like they are confusing Console Exclusives with Full Exclusivity and going 3rd Party. I can see Sony going with day 1 release on PC of their sigle player exclusives at some point, that would turn their games into Console Exclusives, but releasing them on other consoles? Seems only Xbox is doing that.

They aren't confusing anything, they intentionally make misleading headlines to get people to watch their trash.

I'm going to be perfectly honest here, so call me a "fanboy" or whatever, but I think part of the reason the industry is in this state of malfunction is because of the lack of consistent exclusives on consoles. No more putting them on PC or sharing them with other bases. Brand used to mean something in the console arena.

If you wanted to play Blue Dragon back in the day, you had to buy an Xbox. I used to think Phil was trying to build up the Xbox brand, but now we know his only concern is the Microsoft brand. Deep down I think most people would love to see every game available on every system, but just like socialism, which sounds great on paper, the lack of real exclusives ends up meaning less desire for these video game brands in the end.

So impregnable "walled gardens" is the only way this console business can survive?

Atari? Its about time! Was really concerned that Rollercoaster Tycoon 3 was going exclusive to Gamestation Pro.
I'm glad they've been making those recharged games available on everything. I've picked them up super cheap on Steam and PS5 and they're great for some pick up and play gaming. Yars Recharged is a vibe.

I really don’t think Sony is going to release pc day one anytime time soon, if ever, especially if they have to pay 30% to steam and pay for denuvo, as no way they will allow day one piracy. 6 months later is the best pc gamers can hope for.

p.s I’m talking about single player games, as some people seem to confused, Sony has not released a single sp game day one on pc, and they never will. They are not ms, who are so desperate, they are willing to share day one revenue with steam and denuvo.

Playstation games/ exclusives are seriously lacking at this point and are even falling behind xbox.
Agreed. If it weren't for Nintendo, I'd have probably lost interest in gaming by now. Not that they're perfect by any means, but at least they understand the importance of exclusives and most of them are still bangers.

It's fucking IGN, what did you expect? That site has been in the gutter for close to a decade now. I'm surprised people still give them any clicks.

Lmao someone actually took the bait and posted Destin's video here on GAF.

Brb, gonna grab some popcorn.

Anticipation Popcorn GIF

Exactly LOL

make sure the pudding isn't too soggy but that just ruins everything
Exactly.

Journalism is a lost art.
i think it's more we let these dorks get away with ever calling themselves journalists. probably because gamers were so desperate for validation in the early days, not realizing this industry would eventually dwarf all other entertainment mediums. even now, watch something like the game awards to see how desperately they try to court movie stars and other stuff, to the detriment of the actual gaming industry. meanwhile these useless, grifting twats write performative, activist hit pieces that feed off a divisive cuture war, and ignore the corporate goons dragging the industry into the depths of microtransaction hell.

Why put effort into journalism, when it's all about the click bait titles?

Actual breakdown of effort:
- 90% effort put into thinking of click bait titles
- 9% effort put into writing parameters in ChatGTP
- 1% effort put into copy/pasting response and submitting article

Title: [IGN] Xbox Isn't The Only One Rethinking Console Exclusives

In recent years, the gaming industry has witnessed a significant shift in the way console exclusives are approached. While Xbox has notably been at the forefront of rethinking exclusivity models with initiatives like Xbox Game Pass, other players in the industry are also reconsidering their stance on this traditional practice.

Console exclusives have long been a cornerstone strategy for gaming companies to drive console sales and foster brand loyalty. However, with the rise of subscription-based services and the increasing importance of accessibility and player choice, the landscape is evolving.

One notable example of this shift is Sony, known for its strong lineup of exclusive titles such as the critically acclaimed "The Last of Us" and "God of War" series. While PlayStation exclusives remain a key selling point for the platform, Sony has also been exploring new avenues to expand its reach.

With initiatives like PlayStation Now and cross-platform releases, Sony is demonstrating a willingness to adapt to changing consumer preferences. By making select titles available on PC and exploring partnerships with other platforms, Sony is broadening its audience while still maintaining the allure of exclusive content for its loyal fanbase.

Moreover, Nintendo, often synonymous with its beloved first-party exclusives like "Mario" and "The Legend of Zelda," has also shown signs of embracing a more inclusive approach. While Nintendo's exclusives continue to be a cornerstone of its business strategy, the company has increasingly collaborated with third-party developers and expanded its presence on mobile devices.

The evolving approach to console exclusives reflects a broader trend in the gaming industry towards inclusivity and accessibility. As players demand more flexibility in how they access and experience games, companies are recognizing the need to adapt their strategies accordingly.

While console exclusives are likely to remain a significant part of the gaming landscape, the definition of exclusivity is evolving. Instead of focusing solely on locking content to specific platforms, companies are prioritizing cross-platform compatibility, subscription-based models, and partnerships to reach a wider audience.

In conclusion, while Xbox has been a prominent figure in rethinking console exclusives with its innovative approach, other players in the industry are also following suit. As the gaming landscape continues to evolve, embracing inclusivity and adaptability will be key for companies looking to stay relevant in an ever-changing market.

Where does he think Sony are going to port their games too? Xbox is a dying platform. They already release most games on PC. It only leaves Nintendo and I don't see that happening. These fools are just hoping that Sony port to Xbox in the hope it saves Xbox and by extension themselves. Neither of these things will happen.

How the hell did they mess up Berzerk?! Ugh…the one I was looking forward to most.
A few simple control adjustments and it could be so much better. Like, they made it so you move with the left stick and shoot in 8 directions with the right stick, which makes sense. But they also make you hold a button while aiming with the right stick to actually shoot. It makes the gameplay so unintuitive because it's nothing like the other twin stick games. I could see having the button if you only have one stick. It's just weird.

They should’ve left an option for classic mode.

Microsoft is trying to make it about their brand. It wouldn’t surprise me if they eventually dropped the Xbox branding almost completely and called it Microsoft gaming. This already happens with a lot of their products already when it comes to their naming conventions.
We are a Microsoft school, where we use Microsoft Teams and we use Microsoft Office; even the cloud stuff, we refer to it as the Microsoft cloud. The Surface devices we use don’t say Surface on them, but are labeled as Microsoft. It’s all about the brand and that’s exactly what they are doing.

You forgot spamming your article on all social media.

And within the next 12-18 months, they (IGN and other media like those) will employ simply Gen AI to save costs more.
