IGN: ZombiU Video Preview

This is always brought up, it's funny.

Red Steel was a completely different case. The press didn't get to actually play it until near the launch of the Wii. The hype was all completely based on pre-rendered footage and other stuff I'm pretty sure.

Someone can correct me if I'm wrong.

Plus, it was a different developer.

It's good to hear that the controls have been improved. ZombiU is definitely on my list of Wii U games to get.

Because of my kids/family, I think I might get Nintendoland vs this.

Lol, you sound like Phil from last nights episode of Modern Family. It's ok man, you can admit it, just say it looks too scary for you and that's why you aren't getting it. It's ok.

I'm pretty much the same, heh. The game looks really well made and fun, but I just don't do well with scary stuff.

You're right. When press did get to play the impressions were negative right away I believe as well. Gameplay impressions for ZombiU have been positive all around and those keep getting more positive with each new demo/build.
Cassa sells it pretty well.
Sounds familiar to what Rich is saying about how the controls were "improved"

Matt Cassa said:
After we played the first-person shooter at Nintendo's New York City event in September, we have to be honest: we were worried. At the time, Red Steel simply didn't control well. We questioned whether or not this was true because the game was mechanically unresponsive or because the experience was being lessened by controller interference; Nintendo's event was, after all, overflowing with kiosks, all of which were using wireless Wii remotes, and hence interference was bound to be an issue. As it turns out, the latest build of Ubisoft's shooter plays much better than the game did in New York -- to the point, in fact, where many of our former concerns have been cast aside. And yet, the control is still not as sensitive or as responsive as we would like. Strangely enough, however, Red Steel is somehow still fun -- still engaging and enjoyable -- despite its shortcomings. Keep reading as we go into detail.

Um....not sure I like this. Totally takes the fun out of looting. I don't want to play a game scared as crap that I'm going to die and loose everthing.

"Cool new shotgun!!" Surprise attack...die.

You can find your former self and kill them for your old gear.

And believe.. you can do the same with friends...

I'll believe a non-biased source as opposed to IGN.
They only post "positive" previews if they get it first/exclusive.

most previews are positive. however i bet you they don't say every Wii U launch game is shaping up to be the best launch title, as they did here.

he's overwhelmingly positive, which makes me step back and go on the defensive. I want it to be great, but I'm skeptical of shit like this. Getting it day 1, but if my expectations are set by this video I'm just asking to be let down.

then wake up as new survivor. u can then hunt down ur infected one get all the gears u collected. the main idea of this game is how long u can survive.

edit: wow a lot of ppl explained b4 me, and i was little late to response.

This...actually is looking good. Glad to hear it controls great now. I probably won't get it at launch but will definitely get it later on

I just realized he said this game was a pick over Mario. Not sure what to think about that, because Mario is always so functionally astounding when it comes to mechanics and whatnot.

Also, if you close your eyes and listen to this, you would swear he is talking about a new Dark Zombies. I'm cool with that if it's true, but the Dark series is pretty damn good when it comes to mechanics(and nearly everything else). Tough challenge for the Zombi team.

Perhaps that is mainly due to New SMBU not offering much in the way of fresh ideas based on what IGN has played so far. It may very well be a good Mario game, but Nintendo hasn't really shown much of it. I wonder if Nintendo will actually put in some effort with the game's music this time around.

Damn, I was already excited for the game as it is. Sounds like they made some necessary changes to the controls, and I am glad that Ubi let them play it for an extended period since that seems like where the game will shine.

Gotta say this looks great! It reminds me of Condedmned in certain aspects and in visual style and that is not a bad thing in the slightest. Really excited for my Wii U pre-order! :D

Yes. You have to go back to where your previous survivor was to get your gear back. Much like how they did in Demon's Souls/Dark Souls.

I got to play this game too, and it truly is an awesome game. I'd say it's a better Resident Evil game than RE6.
Agreed. Game is super cool.
Red Steel; never forget.

stop this shit seriously. there is no comparison between the 2 - at all.
This. I have played it also, and it is really is shaping up to be something fantastic.
I want this game but I must choose between this and Nintendoland, I'm still waiting for a review.
Didn't get the Black Wii U? Dang. It really depends on what you wanna do with your Wii u. Multiplayer or single player?

Oh damn it. That made the wait harder. I really can't wait to play this damn game. It just looks like that must play game for this console's launch.

It's pretty amazing that the game that shows up what the system can do is not from Nintendo, and even more, it's coming out from Ubisoft, who spat all their Catz, Dogz and Babiez shit all over the Wii.

Kudos to the team creating ZombiU. If it ends up being an excellent game, I'm pretty sure it will sell extremely well.

I think because most see NSMBU as a safe game.
Which in design it is.

A ton of fun.
And boost rush mode shall create new enemies.

Had to put the guy on mute, annoying pronunciation - was he trying to sound excited or something?

Anyway vid looks great. Still not sold on the gfx but love the atmosphere. It's great that they worked on the hit reactions and that we have finally seen a couple of more zombies populate the areas.

that is a lot of praise for the title... I need a few more of the hard to please press to report back

maybe Giantbomb they are hard on stuff like this

I'll be waiting for reviews before purchase. I don't really trust anything Ubisoft puts out unless it's a Rayman platformer. I've been burned too many times.

I don't know, I think because of your kids you should get this.
They need to be trained for a potential zombie apocalypse, getting anything else is actively irresponsible.

... I imagine quality or no ZombiU will be cheap before too long, so it actually probably is smartest to just get Nintendoland now.

The lack of dynamic lighting and shadows when the guy tosses a flair doesn't look too hot either.

Just in terms of concept, I always thought Left 4 Dead was going to be like this, a slow burn zombie horror game. Then I was disappointed it was just some frantic co-op thing.

Totally getting Zombi U at launch.

The footages are becoming monotonous that's not rayman level of boring but ubisoft is doing it the nintendo way and even more by waiting till the last minute to show interesting stuff.
Still there are promising thing to pick up each time but not enough to be sure about the game.

I'm gonna be kinda broke paying for the Wiiu next month. Will probably have enough for one game. Was leaning towards Mario but I think it's gonna be this one.

Dat evergreen

Yeah, ZU even going to have a marketing push?

Hmm... I've had at least a passing interest in the game since its announcement, I just wasn't keen on the quirks the press has been pointing out. If this guy's comments are true and they've ironed out a lot of those, perhaps it'll be worth getting.
