IGN: ZombiU Video Preview

I wasn't trying to be a dick...I like rich, i follow him on twitter for a reason. i just meant he is focused on nintendo 24/7. He is obv a fan. all of his tweets are about nintendo... and so when he says things like "RichIGN: Spent more time with Wii U today. Very impressed with some things. Hands tied for now - but not much longer. Sorry. Soon. =)" I don't know what that means for me, as someone who isn't as nintendo centric.

I think he is honest...as seen here "RichIGN: First (UK) Wii U ad hits. Not sure this is msging Nintendo needs. Too micro. Not grand like "Wii would like to play." http://t.co/EdQfGyzC"

BUt it is still dramatically more positive than i feel about the ad. I would just rather hear positive wiiu news out of a doubter, rather then someone whose lifeblood is nintendo.

You do know he is the head of the IGN Nintendo team right? That is why his tweets and IGN articles are 90% Nintendo related. Your complaint about him is almost like going to a Nintendo fan site and complaining that all they talk about is Nintendo.

If you're really mainly faulting him for being too positive, I'd have to disagree with that as well. A lot of his tweets have been pretty clear he is as confused as the rest of us about a lot of Nintendo's latest strategy regarding the Wii-U.

If you can read french, this preview makes Zombi U a GOTY contender, and the use of the GamePad one of the most original thing happening in the medium in years: http://www.jeuxvideo.com/articles/0001/00017851-zombiu-preview.htm

I love how they compare it to the radar Marines have in Aliens, how you can send short radio waves to reveal the surroundings (and how it can catch birds too, adding to the tension).

Or how you can at some point use a machine gun and go crazy moving/shooting at everything at 360°.

Goddamn this is some great news. I am just glad to hear that ZombiU isn't going to suck. My hype levels are pretty high right now. I'll take this for a Wii U focused Nintendo Direct, for now.

But where the titles do overlap is in their depictions of why the world went to hell in the first place. Of all the games on this list, it feels like ZombiU will handle its explanation for why the outbreak occurred in a manner akin to Resident Evil. In my time with it, Ubisoft's title contained enough clues to allow me to slowly piece together a vague skeleton of the events that led up to London being submerged in darkness. Biological nonsense, rampant infection, and a crazed prophet all seem like they play a part in the macro narrative of ZombiU.

I love this part. Learning about how the would descends into the apocalypse is one of the most interesting aspects of Zombie fiction, imo.

Yes. A gamer who wants great looking games. What's wrong with that.
Nothing wrong with that. Yet a game can be great, even the best of its class, whatever its graphics.

Even if it's far from a benchmark, all previews (even Gamekult) praise the visuals in terms of art, atmosphere and coherence.

they certainly seem to have put most of their graphical eggs in to the lighting and physics baskets.

game is shaping up really well. I really liked that you can collect planks and a hammer to barricade doors. love it love it love it

Yeah and that's probably a smart direction to go. Survivor Horror succeeds based on of course the horror aspect but the atmosphere is huge. Dark dreary world and lighting that feeds the narrative and it all combines for success

Looks great. Didn't know you could kill animals and eat them.

dammit people stop spoiling stuff. I know it is minor....

I guess it is time to stop visiting these threads. Just too damn excited

Um....not sure I like this. Totally takes the fun out of looting. I don't want to play a game scared as crap that I'm going to die and loose everything.

"Cool new shotgun!!" Surprise attack...die.

this is something I am most looking forward too, being constantly freaked out, so long as it hits the right balance between difficulty and the ability to defend yourself

If you don't want to know about game mechanics then yes, you should probably stop visiting threads about the game :P.

Couldn't agree with you more. Yet, inexplicably most Zombie games never delve into this area. Too much action, not enough story and background (I'm looking at you Left For Dead).

I'm really glad I preordered this. There has always been this nagging feeling in the back of my mind that it might end up crap. Although, I suppose there is the possibility it is still a crap game, there are too many people seemingly saying otherwise.

Day Z is still the one to beat. so far this doesn't look look as good to me.

The way it swaps to the inventory on the controller is pretty weak. They couldve easily just put that same screen on the TV. A better use of the controller would be a first person view of what's inside the backpacks and being able to fumble through the items with the touch screen.

The entire point of it is to take your eyes off the screen to add tension to the game. Fumbling through does sound neat though.

That would have been pretty neat actually, especially if you run long distances and your items jumble around in your bag and when you reopen it, they might not be where you originally placed them. Maybe that's something we will see in a sequel.

But putting the same screen on the TV is not the same as what they did here. Yes they could have done it, but having to balance two screens, one with the game and the other with your inventory (and certain actions), is a much more tense experience then just pulling up a menu on the side.

Its put on the touch screen to make it tense...cause zombies can still get at you while looking through the inventory, other wise its just the same ol' boring inventory management.

Looks cohesive and clean which is excellent. I believe they've also toned down the post processing a bit so that some of the (rather high res) environment textures can pop a little more. It's still not a technical showpiece by any means but the art design still makes me say wow.

Controls definitely appear less ropey and more precise as well. Sense of weight appears totally corrected.

I figure this has to be a damn near final build. Can't wait to see reviews. Time to self impose spoiler lockdown until release I think. Those previews are a bit much.

Watched the IGN video for a bit but had to stop because of the guy's pretty bad announcer speak. Just speak normally, homie.

Also everything they were showing looks like everything else I've seen, so not too interesting. Good to hear the controls have been tightened up, at least.

what old gen games play like this?

Rogue.

You make a good argument... but it's not the aiming. It'd be more like my survivors were epileptic with how I move the POV camera.

Don't feel bad I am in the same boat. I am a PC Primary/Nintendo Secondary gamer so its always been a mouse keyboard for majority of these type of games. Dual Analog and I aren't well acquainted friends.
