IGN: ZombiU Video Preview

Well, for me it probably would be tense. I get scared by FEAR and Dead Space and some say they arent scared by it. I can understand how the gamepad adds tension, but it would still be a tense game without it because of the lack of resources and death mechanic.

No doubt it would still be tense without it, but the Gamerpad use adds another extra layer of tension, realism, and immersion along with making the experience feel 'new' and innovative. Personally I wish games like The Last of Us could use the Vita in a similar way instead of the pull up (real-time) menu, but that is a different topic.

Is there no ADS in this game? other than the raise the gamepad to snipe.

edit: also, i wonder if there will be auto turrets in single player

New pics

All pics one click display^ But smaller shrunken pics.

For full size this link, but you have to right click the thumbs and open each pic in a new window

Please don't start with the looks worse than Condemned chat.

Wait, you believe these are real screenshots? 1920x1080, no jaggies, looks more like artwork/bullshots. But they are clearly labelled as screenshots. Gaming journalism.

I think you should be quoting the other guy? Nowhere did I say anything about believing anything.

I just did not want to see what happens in every fricking Zombi U thread, a derailment about it looking worse than Condemned.

The first link I provided has the pics in downsampled in 1,024 x 576 pixels @ 24 bits per pixel size and they still look decent to me.

It really wouldn't be. I guess for some it's something you need to experience to understand, but looking down to access your inventory adds an extra layer of tension and danger. I like to compare the difference here to the difference between watching the road and using the GPS on your front window to trying to drive while using your cellphone in your lap.

whats stopping you from holding the gamepad up so you can keep watching the TV at the same time?

I get a fright playing minecraft when you have your inventory or crafting table open and a creeper sneaks up on you. You could definitely do the 'USP' thing of ZombieU on a console, just have the inventory/keypad etc overlaid on the screen so you get a glimpse of whats happening around you.

still cool though and a good use of the gamepad.

Wow, I can't believe how many positive previews this game is getting. Shit is making me hyped now. It's crazy that a Ubisoft game might be the first title I purchase on a Nintendo console though.

I gotta say, the game looks a lot more impressive to me than people are suggesting. It's a nice looking game for sure.

I don't think the graphics are all that impressive, but I don't think they are bad either. I don't think the Dev intent was "Let's create a game that blows all other console games away graphically". Their intent seems to be to make an innovative game using the Gamepad in a way they feel is unique. From all the impressions we have so far, they've hit the nail squarely on the head.

I just hope the game lives up to the hype that is starting to be created. This was one of the handful of games that I planned on getting on Day 1. I was a bit leery at first (tho I still planned on getting it solely because of the unique gameplay mechanics) as it looked "clunky" to control so I'm glad that more than one preview/review is saying the Developers have done a good job fixing the controls.

Now, let's hope this (and Aliens: Colonial Marines) convince Dev that there are plenty of core gaming concepts that the Gamepad can be used for and not a bunch of party games. That said, I think it's fine for multi-plats use the Gamepad for a map/inventory screen if there is no better use for it. To me, games like Borderlands 2 could be even better on the Gamepad where I didn't have to pause the game to look at my backpack full of guns, missions, map objectives, etc...

nice.
I personnaly like this one
ZombiU |OT| London Crawling
Nice callback to The Clash. I vote for this.

I just like how the locales all feel legitimately abandoned due to all of the clutter and rubbish strewn about. Similar to Amnesia and Bioshock, what the game lacks in wow factor, it more than makes up in spades due to its eerie ambience.

I was thinking the same thing about the turret, its prob something you can get very late in the game

How about ZombiU |OT| Would have looked better on PS360.

/Just kidding...

I think people give the graphics a hard time, because it is not a shiny, bumped mapped to high heaven, Unreal Engine game. Like so.

(though this is not Unreal engine, but same idea)

For Zombiu
I like how soft and understated it looks, not the harshness of crazy bump/normal mapping.

Yeah it is a little rough in spots, but I like the more subtle, understated look.

I wonder if Giant Bomb will give this one to Alex (because it's an Ubisoft game and he's posted every video of it on the site because that's all he does) or if Patrick "Spooky Scoops" Klepek will go for it given his horror game preferences.

London Crawling as the OT is genius, i'd go with that one.

I'm already looking forward to a sequel with a more fleshed out multiplyer and online. Imagine 4 people against 1 or 2 players in control of Zombies. Could be awesome.

GOTY Contender?

Seriously? Good lord. The game sounds like it'll be very solid but you're getting your hopes up waaaay too high imo. I doubt most of you would give the game a second glance if it wasn't a launch title for a new console. Before you say "but you can't do inventory management on a touch screen with other consoles", that's not the main draw of the game anyway.

Yeah, that's totally what got people hyped for this.

That's exactly my point. The one-death mechanic and survival aspects is what got people hyped, not being able to manage your inventory on the touch screen, so the core draw of the game would of course be doable on other consoles and my point was that if the game was on another console I doubt we'd see even a quarter of the hype and GOTY talk like we have now, but it's a launch title for a brand new console.

Not worth a new thread to ask but I can't see the image buttons on the forum. The buttons to the left of thread titles, the last reply button, just the fonts. Any help?

Who gives a flying fuck.

I think the asymmetric feature add something that cannot be done on others consoles.
It make the game more interesting.

I would like co-op too.
I prefer single player horror game, but it could have been fun to survive with friends.

Yeah the option would have been nice, but I'm guessing they just didn't have enough time to get any online multi/co-op in with it being a launch title (and not a port)

Is not only "inventory management" you do realize that, right?
