Problem solved.
I too have been struggling with something - lacking the passion for gaming lately. I feel you!
Just want to say I appreciate this forum so much. So many years on here; it's like the one constant I can count on in this hobby.
I'm sure a lot of you have done this, but I'm just not feeling games at all lately.
I'm fortunate enough to have PC/PS5 Pro/Switch 2/Steam Deck and buy games (way too) often, but they feel hollow.
I'll get excited about a game and then within hours I'm looking for the next thing to play.
I know this is almost definitely because I've been playing them for years on end every day or every other day. Just going through the motions, hoping something feels like the first time I played through Dark Souls or Ocarina of Time or Symphony of the Night. But it never will if I don't take a long break.
I'm going to focus on my art and reading and career stuff I think and come back when I'm really craving video games again.
Honestly, maybe I should take a break from here too.
We live in a time of abundance and accessible dopamine. I think it's time I fix that.
Pretty much the sameWhenever I feel like I'm lacking passion in some regard, usually it's due to my job.
Even on a good day, shit zaps me of almost all my energy.
I think it's more like modern games suck, and you've only just noticed that. Just play old games from time to time, and accept that a massive purge is going to need to happen before modern releases are worth any amount of your time.I'm sure a lot of you have done this, but I'm just not feeling games at all lately.

Why do people feel the need to announce this? I don't make a thread every time I take a break from hiking, watching TV shows or listening to jazz.
Yo.
A few weeks ago I took a dopamine detox. Didn't touch games or social media for a week. Didn't even come here.
I felt great afterwards. I haven't gone back to games yet. Don't feel the need to, but I'm sure I will soon enough.
Everyone needs a break every now and then. It'll do you good. Take time out and come back when you feel ready.
I think I have a pretty negative attachment to them in that I've inadvertently made them part of my identity. Something I want stop doing.
It's just entertainment, but I've made it out to be more.
between 3 and 12 inches
I quit playing games with any regularity years ago, I just play Fallout 3 and New Vegas over and over. I still buy games, play them for a half hour, gawk at the graphics and then it's back to Fallout 3 and New Vegas for another 2 - 300 hours on my Steam Deck.
Witcher 3 is another one, just bought it again on Steam for my Deck. I'm gonna give Cyberpunk another shot, too.I think im nearly at this point. I play a mix of old and new games, most of the new games are forgetable to me and I will never play them again, but I am always thinking of the 360/PS3 era games and happy to replay many of them again and again. The only games from the last 10 yrs or so that will join them are The Witcher 3, RDR2, Cyberpunk and Baulders Gate 3.
I mean, you're announcing how much you dislike when people do this, so you care at least a little bit. People who truly don't give a fuck don't even finish reading the thread title before moving on to something else.I find it funny people need to announce this….same people who go to social media and announcing they taking break from social media.
What makes these people think anybody else give a fuck…..do what you want, why do you feel need to announce it?
Is less about caring and more about curiosity of why people do this.I mean, you're announcing how much you dislike when people do this, so you care at least a little bit. People who truly don't give a fuck don't even finish reading the thread title before moving on to something else.
