Battlefield 6 is going to break the concurrent player record of BF franchise on Steam — take a wild guess how high it’ll go.

As someone who hasn't played a multiplayer COD since MW 2019 (I did play BO6's Beta but that doesn't really count I think) why do people feel like the game is manipulating them?
My experience in Modern Warfare was that cross-play made the game super easy, I remember playing match after match where I kept destroying console players who played like bots.
Gunfight was by far my favourite mode from modern Call of Duty.

Never really gave Warzone a try though and the skin shenanigans only puts me off further from trying it.
The game goes out of its way keeping the average player around a 1 k/d ratio and 1 win/loss ration as Activision put out that white paper on SBMM saying it helped keep players engaged

As an average player I can 100% feel when I rip off a few good games (for me) and not like I just dominate said lobbies but I am thrown into lobbies I shouldn't be in

I know the counter is that is how I get better playing against better players but just getting my ass handed to me just makes me quit

Steam will be the biggest platform for BF6.
I don't know about all that lol

PC will likely be the biggest platform for this you plonker.
That would be interesting, but historically, PC is the smallest install base for Battlefield series as well as Call of Duty. So I'm sure it will do just fine on PC, even breaking records for DICE and EA, but "biggest platform" for BF6? Nah....massive, massive doubt.

That will remain console.

I've always thought of Battlefield being a PC franchise first. Maybe I'm just getting too old.

yeah considering it was only on pc for a few iterations back in the day and when the mainline game first got to consoles it was a neutered version with fewer players/smaller maps.

now they design for console first I think but ....

Yeah with CoD falling off and this looking pretty decent I can see this taking off.

I myself am thinking of going BF6 instead of CoD and I haven't really played these games really since Bad Company 2.

I wish I had early access but I'll wait for pleb beta I guess. Not even bothering with pc version. The 3080 will not handle this. Rather just run ps5 pro and hope for the best.

It will be the first bf I have bought since bf3. From everything I have seen it seems like a spiritual successor to it. I am glad to see medic having the light machine gun again like they did in bc2. My guess on numbers is 638k

BF6 is lightning in a bottle, I already pre-ordered the phantom edition, and so did my whole group I play with. If they stick the landing at launch, this thing is going to have a rocket strapped to it, no telling how popular it can become.

500k

Its going to be a monster and I know a lot of my COD friends are likely skipping COD this year for the first time in years to play this and I bet a lot of people are doing the same.

Many are tired of running around and seeing stupid skins
That's right. After spending ~2000 hours on COD, I quit early this year and haven't looked back since. Ready for a good Battlefield.

There's a few hurdles for it to clear, but...
If the open beta is well received
If the servers don't melt
If the net code holds it own
If the maps aren't complete ass
If the match making doesn't ruin games
If its actually as bombastic as the previews make it look
If its well optimised

Then yeah, I can see this obliterating Battlefield V without breaking a sweat. But about half of the above has been wrong one way or another with each BF since BF1. If EA finally managed to get its ducks in a row, though... [jordan_peele_sweating.gif]

It used to be a big PC IP, but once it released on console, all of its major records happened on those platforms, just like COD.

Some of them even skipped PC all together and released long after their original releases. When you look up the biggest sales regarding BF and COD, they are not on PC, they may have started on PC, they did not reach the biggest sales, install base etc on that platform.

Like I said, I'm more then sure it will do great on PC, but highly doubt it will be the biggest on PC.

This is the most hyped BF in the history of BF. I can see it doing serious numbers

Same. Let me remind folks, 2042 is the second fastest selling BF title. The fans of the IP are loyal and when all the stars align, I see this game breaking massive records for EA and DICE.

I see it being the fastest selling BF in history.

Yeah I checked, kinda surprising to me. Like I said I've always thought of it as a PC franchise first, even though I did play the BFBC games primarily on the xbox back in the day.

For sure.

the bigger the hype, the bigger the disappointment when it inevitably runs like shit at launch
We'll see.

With all the issues 2042 had, it actually played just fine at launch for many of us.

I'd say the best thing from 2042 was its launch state, devs continued to listen to gamers post beta about many changes and PORTAL.

If all of that is surrounding BF6 too, I'm not worried. Even looking at the whole BF Labs thing, its clear they took the best process they had with 2042 and applied it to BF6. 2042 by no means is the best BF, but its launch was much smoother then most in the series and a good sign on how they'll deal with releases.

We'll see with the beta, for EA to make it free for all regardless of purchase, they are confident with what DICE has.

I refunded 2042 on launch day never to return, unfinished buggy mess of a game.

Activision have had a multifaceted matchmaking system in place since 2019, in fact they have a whole studio working on it called Demonware.

It is engagement and skill optimised, meaning that it puts you in similar skilled lobbies but also takes into account what happened in your recent matches. If you lose a couple in a row, you will be matched against a worse team to give you an easy win. If you win a couple in a row, the next match will be stacked against you and feel like you're playing MLG tryouts.

So it's a completely artificial system, all of your wins and losses are pre-determined. There is evidence that they also try to match you against better players who have the latest bundles, to make you unconsciously think that you need to buy them as well to be as good as that guy.

I call it casino matchmaking for short, because SBMM doesn't do it justice. And you will always end up poorer after playing it!

This system has completely ruined COD imo. Even if the base game is good I just can not play for more than an hour tops.

Open beta trailers are a thing apparently

Aww hell yeah, hadn't noticed that the F16 is in the game.
No offense taken and appreciate the candor

I think COD is ripe for picking to begin its downfall as player retention has been really bad for them the last couple of games not to mention Warzone

I think that crowd is looking for a fun game with good gunplay mechanics that doesn't feel like the game is manipulating your experience via SBMM and not see Beavis and Butthead fighting Ninja Turtles
Last time I played COD the yearly releases felt like a pay-to-win add-on for unlocking Warzone guns. Is WZ still kind of the main show for COD?

BR coming later (and outsourced again) just feels like a repeat of the failure that was Firestorm in BFV. Mainline BF is never going to displace core COD gameplay but I've always felt like BR is where DICE should have been able to wipe the floor with that gaggle of Zampella/West coattail riders.

hmm I am more curious about the split between people on the EA App and steam. This will skew the numbers a bit.

By the way, are there other people who think they should bring back the feature from BF3 and 4 where you could launch the game from the internet browser. Forgot what it was called. But it felt so much more feature rich and you could launch directly into the match from your browser, which was better to navigate than ingame menues that looked very console optimzed. There were also many more features compared to the ingame server browser. Really really liked that.

I'm pleasantly surprise with what they have announced and shown thus far but yeah but too old to fall for the hype. Thread title makes me believe some people are caught up in the cycle.
