Here's the deal:

I've got the cheapest Sony digital TV. I think it was $1200 when I bought it at a Circuit City pre-Thanksgiving sale about this time in 2003. Its got several of the yellow,white, and red plug-ins in the back (not sure what those are called). So, I've got my PS2 and GC cables plugged in there so I can play them.

But, I bought an S-cable for my Xbox last year before Halo 2 hit. So, its got the red and yellow (is that right? - I know its only two of the colors) plus the "S" video cable. I've got that plugged in just like the others.

Now, I hear that when I get my Xbox 360 I'll get some "component cables". I've seen the pictures and it looks like there are four little plug-in things. I have no clue what these are or even if they'll fit my TV.

Can someone explain the difference between them all?

The Red, White, and Yellow cables are composite. The Yellow is your video and the Red and White are audio channels. This is the lowest rung cable going.

S-video replaces the Yellow video cable, but you need to buy an add-on for your Xbox to use it and then you can think about going composite and using digital audio too.

The four colored cables you are talking about are called Component video. Again, this is video only. This is one of the best formats out and can display up to 1080i HD signals. You need a special Xbox adapter for this one too, but the 360 (not the core pack) comes with this right out of the box.

take a photo of the connections on the back of your TV and post it.

If your TV can take component video, Itll have a group of three with red, green and blue sockets or labels. Thats your component video. You'll then need red and white plugs for the stereo audio.
