Episode IV, V, and VI, then if they want to watch a documentary on poor filmaking and bad writing I'll show them Episode I through III.

I haven't seen Episode 2, but do they make it apparent that Anakin = Luke's dad in it?

Or is Anakin referred to as Anakin Skywalker or Skywalker in the first two movies?

In Episode III they do.

IV, V, I, II, III, VI

That way the shock remains intact and then the kids get to see the backstory and then the big finale in jedi.

I'm pretty sure he's referred to as skywalker in ep 1.

if i had children i would show them episodes I-III because i would want tehm to learn about what a horrible place the world is and how completely well meaning, but evil, people can be.

surely there are enough nerds mad about this that someone can go and find a copy of the original trilogy on film (surely there are collectors out there), and then knock up a nice DVD version?

If they did it and released it on the internet, surely that would make Lucas think about releasing them properly?

As for order, has to be IV,V,VI (maybe VII, VIII,IX if they are done soon ish- my son is three already), then I,II,III

there is only one way to show star wars to your kids or newbies, and that is the way most of us grew up with by the original release dates. there is no other appreciation for it.

There is a nice rip of the laserdiscs I've seen floating around with redone dvd menus and such. Of course, the visual quality isn't anywhere near what the new DVDs will be (it seems to be just a little bit better than VHS, but the audio quality is surprisingly good for only Dolby 2.0 surround). That's about as close as we're going to get unfortunately.

As for what nobody wanting to see the original untouched trilogies -- are you mad? In the original trilogy, Han Solo comes off as a serious badass and after all the changes, he comes off as a klutzy idiot who talks big.

Some of the changes they made in the special editions were fine - in fact I liked a lot of them. However, a few really horrible changes ruined it for me and I know I'm not alone.

Sorry but I don't own any original versions, and I don't want to destroy their fragile souls by having them watch the original trilogy, then be all "let's watch the newer ones!" and... well, you know, the disappointment that would follow.

You'd have to have access to a telecine facility, and if you rented one, you'd be busted when someone found out what you were doing.

Theyre all pretty damn bad movies with really bad acting (outside of Harrison Ford) so it really doesnt matter. I always wondered why people my age loved the orginals. Sure, if you saw them when they first came out and were just in love with the visuals, then maybe i could see the love for them. But fuck man, they are actually pretty shitty movies with a really generic story.

No longer boycotting the Wolfenstein franchise
Episode IV
Episode V
Episode VI

then...

Episode I
Episode II
Episode III

then...

Episode IV
Episode V
Episode VI

Then my kids would get everything that the movies could offer.

If you're taking this topic seriously (and if you're really "into" laserdiscs), you'll probably (hopefully) never have kids.

Hmm, another response from a clueless person who carelessly disgorges their preconceived notions.

I love how people project their self hatred by trying to imagine that there's some kind of geek heirarchy that makes some not as lame as others.

Added irony for doing it in the off topic area of a video game website forum.
