In Your Opinion, the most Overrated game system (console)

Most overrated gaming system?

Not a huge fan of RE4 though because of how it pushed the franchise to more dumb action sequels like RE5 and RE6.
Don't knock points off it for how Capcom chose to keep pushing in that direction!

Also Resident Evil 5 is one of my favorite co-op experience.. I replay it with a friend almost on a yearly basis.

RE4 itself was more action-y and less horror-y that i would like, regardless how the sequels turned out.

But REmake was so good, i didn't care.

For me, it's the GameCube, bar none. I still struggle to see what people worship about its library, or its controller. It has by far the worst Mario and the worst Zelda when it comes to gameplay and design. Luigi's Mansion was always a 7/10 game at best, same for Eternal Darkness. Star Fox Adventures is hot garbage in a shiny fur-shaded dress. The system was literally saved for me by the Metroid Prime games first, and by RE4 later. The other exclusives from Nintendo are barely even remembered by the system's hardest stans, except for MK Double Dash. And the rest was pretty much games you could get on other systems. Most cash-grabby Nintendo system ever, too: remember how you needed up to 4 GBAs and link cables to play some games? You could get 4 Wiimotes for the price of a GBA.
I think you're being a bit to harsh on the gamecube. There's a reason people like the controller - and it's because a lot of people really do like the controller. It's not perfect by any means - the dpad is wonky - but the ergonomics in the way you wrap your fingers around it and that nice groove in the shoulder buttons make it a really comfy controller to hold.

Also people always mention the gamecubes library from what I've seen.
Paper Mario
Wind Waker
Metroid Prime
Rogue Squadron
Resident Evil 4
Melee
Double Dash
Pikmin
Soul Calibur 2
Resident Evil Remake
F-Zero GX

Some of these are still considered the best entry in their franchise

For me it has to be the Xbox 360. It had several good games, that I enjoyed playing.
But I also had one RROD and one error E73 that made me send the console twice for repair. And MS instead of making a proper fix, just ramped up the fans, making it very loud and annoying.
Then there was that nonsense with the Avatars, that were mandatory. What an idiotic idea.
And replacing the blades interface with a crappy UI, and then adding some sort of ads.
And the pivot to kinect was a shit show.
I eventually sold my X360 and bought a PS3 Slim. And was much happier with it.

I actually agree about the Gamecube.

I consider it the weakest of Nintendo consoles when it comes to first party support, especially since they gave so many of their franchises to third parties. Like Starfox, F-Zero and Metroid.

And it will always rub me the wrong way how F-Zero GX has become the golden child of the franchise. I say X is superior in every single way other than graphics. But apparently those graphics were so good, they managed to completely overshadow a superior game. Ugh.

Metroid Prime, Rogue Leader and REmake were the only things i liked about Gamecube. Not a huge fan of RE4 though because of how it pushed the franchise to more dumb action sequels like RE5 and RE6.
GC is third most overrated for me. When it comes to Nintendo it's either the the Switch or the GC that takes the bottom spot when I rank them. GC for the most part only has some good multiplayer games and Capcom's output. The first party stuff was pretty poor outside of a couple games and the other third party stuff worth a damn was minimal.

PS2 - After all the hype so many games came in way below the screen res of DC 480p you had jaggies everywhere and along with the N64 the machine's output was pisspoor After SONY's hype over internet, the system was way behind the DC for pushing internet gaming

I like the gamecube as a funky ps2 alternative. You get cleaner graphics in a lot of games, and it had it's own set of exclusives that go into really interesting stuff like viewtiful joe and cubivore, etc. Shame that mario, zelda, and kart were all weak tho. In the end, I'm not going to take one over a ps2 but I could have kept myself busy just fine. I had both back then and the gc got a good amount of use.

I am voting series because they promised same performance for s as they did for x but at 1440p.
There are way worse consoles on there but who cares. It's not a ps5, that I know fucking for sure

35 trolls who voted for ps5... why? Why it's overrated?

Weirdly, going with PlayStation 5 followed by Wii U.

Compared to its other great family members, it just has no games.

Unpopular opinion but the 360 was a bad console saved by a handful of games. It was poorly made (RROD and scratching discs), had proprietary storage (both hdd and memory card). Had no wifi, had no HDDVD drive. Had to pay for online for p2p. It was kind of shit in terms of a console. It had Mass effect, Bioshock early on and Halo, Gears, and Forza then later became the Wii.

They basically thought "how can we monetise Miis from Nintendo?" and made you have a dumb avatar.

360 is a hard one.
Great games, great UI (blades)
Great power and graphics.

But hardware was guaranteed to break.
Still - I would prefer to have to buy another xbox 360 than a a good console with no games.

Agree on the 480p thing, there were only about 50 odd PS2 games running at 480p (SoulCalibur II and Tekken 4 were two I own that look quite sharp), every Dreamcast game I own is 480p and look lovely on modern TVs.

Disagree on online though, we barely had any online games in the UK and we got lumped with a pitiful 33kb modem. Sony's decision to wait until broadband rolled out and leave the adaptor out of early models was smarter I think.

I think most of the hype for it came from playing online with friends but it was overall a console that wasn't good both in terms of quality or policy. The games really dried up later in its lifetime too.

It was the time when crossplay was being blocked by MS and everybody was on CoD with exclusive map packs playing with friends. so you had to get it to be part of the fun. It was the console to get to play with friends.

Unfortunately Gabe and PS didn't have the media to pressure MS into cross platform play back then. Maybe if they had and killed this network lockin effect we wouldn't be paying for online today. Back then nobody was complaining about exclusives or lack of crossplay. They were playing Bioshock and ME and exclusive map packs. They started complaining when xbox started complaining. If you were to do the same today to get games that make your console more attractive a bunch of people would complain instead of saying the console is great.

But we are not talking about the worst consoles. Rather about the most overrated.
Of course a console without games is worse than the X360, but no one is going to overate it.
On the other hand, the X360 is rated highly by a lot of people, despite having several issues, some of them quite bad.

Of the current leaders:

PS5 isn't really overrated if it was never rated in the first place.

No idea how the 360 got so many votes. It changed the public perception of online gaming forever and had countless blockbuster titles.

I went with the Gamecube. Beloved by many but it didn't actually have that many great games.

it was not overrated for me. When first 360 broke.. I got another one.
It was amazing

Yep which is why it's strange he voted for xbox one. The xbox one wasnt overated at all. It was mostly mocked.

Yes but you are the one who rates it despite its big flaw that you experienced. That's the point. For something to be overrated somebody has to rate it highly. That somebody is you in this case.

I'm already seeing a lot of folks who grew up with the Wii U overrating the hell out of it online cos it had a few great first party games.

Like yeah, BOTW and Mario Kart 8 are great and all, but when you actually owned one, you got like 3-4 good games a year total, with massive droughts in between when there was literally nothing to play. It was terrible.

Xbox 360
Rushed out the door with horrible hardware faults.
Was not really popular globally and finished the gen in third place.
A ton of very generic and bland shooter games.
It was underpowered for the HD games it was made to play and is responsible for the culture of pixel counting and frame pacing analysis just so people could work out how fucked and bad the 360 games they were playing really were.
You might be nostalgic about it because you had one at college and you played it with your brother or something, but for me it was Tuesday.

Then the list sucks and this topic sucks ass.
Poll should be curated to "highly rated" consoles only.
Then we should vote on some basis. is it hardware, games, vibe. whatever

I think the basis being general is fine but I agree the poll options are strange and suck. Nobody was overating Stadia the controller, not sure what it's doing there at all.

PS3 in terms of hardware.

Sony marketing praised it as the best computer system of all time. The console turned out as a complete piece of shit that only did well in isolated use cases. Games were absolutely amazing though Naughty Dogs golden era.

Overall: Sega Dreamcast.

Dreamcast for sure, or any Sega console really.

Nah, Dreamcast for sure. Overrated with a bunch of hardcore Segafan shitting on Sony bc "muh, they killed Dreamcast"
But Saturn is cool, especially Japaneese library

Series S / X too, the most powerful console with a bunch of inferior version, all games release on PS5.

I dont get why Playstation 5 has so many votes when its literally now just the fucking Xbox Series, WITH EXCLUSIVES.

The fact the Xbox series continues to sell despite it being the second utter disapointment in a row after the One boggles the mind. You can shit on the Playstation 5 remakes all you want, but at least it has games worth remaking.

Xbox really pissed me off this generation with the mishandling of multiple franchises and new IP's and when they do succeed with something interesting they close the studio like with Hi-Fi Rush.

It has promise at the start, but they just wrecked it, its why i traded mine in. The fact people think its better than the Playstation 5 literally proves how overrated it is.

Dreamcast never had a chance to prove its worth cuz Sega killed it too fast. Outside of Shenmue was just pretty much an arcade games machine, but some of those arcade games were amazing. Metropolis Street Racer, Power Stone, Crazy Taxi, and so much more.

I'm not getting involved.

Me after reading some of the comments:

Falling Down GIF

Xbox series by a country mile, PS3 (limited exclusives, most 3rd party ran better on the X360) and also, the RE4 & Metroid Prime machine aka the GameCube, people remember it fondly but God if it wasn't a wet fart of a console with a very limited selection of games.

From when I got Quake 3 on USA import, I was able to enter my own ISP details on the DC and didn't look back and had a wonderful time playing DC games on the internet, loved the likes of Alien Front Online and Ooga Booga

I will credit SONY for being one of the 1st (if not the 1st) to allow multiple players to play an online football game with This Is Football 2004 instead of the standard 2 players

why. So many people vote that. WHY
Is it the hardware? the games? what? because it got it all.
how can you say ps5 when xbox series exists lol and it got even less games and so on

You're right that it's weird to vote PS5 when Xbox Series is right there. I guess people just expected more from Ps5 coming from ps4 and nothing from Xbox coming from XB one. I wouldn't vote for PS5 just off the strength of Returnal, although I didn't play it on a ps5.

It's hard to take this poll seriously when I see that the PS5 is ahead by so much. I have literally never seen or heard anybody say the PS5 is super amazing or hype it up to the max. Everybody says the PS5 is disappointing, especially from a 1st party exclusive perspective and this is of course true. But at the end of the day it's still better than Xbox, which is the only other cutting edge console option gamers have. The Switch and now Switch 2 on the other hand constantly get praised, even though they're based off of years old phone tech and built using cheap parts and feature the same 6 or 7 Nintendo franchises being released for the umpteenth time. To me that's the very definition of overrated.
