In Your Opinion, the most Overrated game system (console)

Most overrated gaming system?

PS5 for me by a wide margin. It's good hardware, looks cool(to me) great controller, easy UI, PSVR2 is a great accessory, but the exclusive lineup on PS5 is the worst of all Sony consoles... by far. I used to trash the ps3, but this is completely insane. 5 years in with promises of a "better future" lmao.

I would literally rather have kept ps4 with no ps5 release if the level of exclusives kept coming. I honestly don't think the upgrade was worth it at all.

Give me more games on the level of Horizon, God of War, UC4, etc, better than essentially nothing by comparison.

This man couldn't have said it better.

This gen consoles have been nothing but TRASH.

Here, Romulus, you earned a promotion.

Sega Saturn has been overrated over the recent years, decade or so even...fair enough it was the most affordable way to play Neo-Geo like games, but there is a reason why it fell short globally, and not only the PSX but the N64 trounced it completely (from a sales perspective)...with it's mesh transparency speciality, it was a hap-hazardly put together system and it shows....

Damn the PS5 is getting murdered

Not really that surprising. Some of those votes are pretty obvious, but overall I can't really say they are wrong. Sony's first party studios just have not delivered like they have in the past. Been saying that for 2-3 years now. And I'm a guy who came into this gen incredibly pro-PlayStation after all the kickass games we got on PS4. Still hoping they turn it around, but every year we don't get a showcase tells me it ain't happening soon.

Gotta be PS5 is you're a multiconsole gamer. If you've got a PS4 Pro, and Xbox and a PC; PS5 gives you nothing. The hardware is great, maybe their best ever compared to the field, but the truly exclusive games are just simply not there. The only use case is if you're dead set on being a one-machine gamer, it's OK, but even then, all the best stuff can be played on your old PS4 Pro.

"If you have three other systems, the fourth gets a little redundant."

🤯

"Overrated" necessitates that the console be widely beloved by the masses or intensely loved by a smaller group. The most overrated console that is niche is the N64. The game library is not great except for the Nintendo made games and a few 3rd party gems. The controller, while interesting, is a piece of trash. The cart format limited the system so much.
The most overrated console that everyone praises is the PS1. Yes many franchises were born there, and it began a new era of Sony dominance. But damn those games were ugly as hell when they were new and they look worse as time went on.

GameCube has the worst Zelda, the worst Mario and one of the worst Mario Kart game, yet has hundreds of obsessive fanboys that idolize this console and these games because they were their first.

Yeah its PS5 which is odd cos it has some of the best hardware upgrades like the CPU and dualsense controller but I got to be honest the game output has been mostly side graded sequels.

The whole live service push and sub model thing is quite disappointing too.

PS4 had both U4 and TLOU2 which whilst both sequels were standout tent pole first party games leaning into the real.strengths of the devs.

This is a good way to describe the GameCube.

As amazing as the PS2 was, I had way more fun with the original Xbox, mainly because of Halo 1 and 2 multiplayer. So my vote goes to PS2.

Go back in time to tlou1 release, bloodborne etc. People loved ps3 and ps4.
But ever since tlou2 release, a big split happened - gamers vs non gamers

TLOU2 surely flushed out the ideologues that's for sure. Being a perfect example of how little so many self professed "gamers" care about games.

8th and 9th gen consoles are the worst.

The uniqueness is gone, they are just worse PCs.

Gonna vote for the Wii here mainly because I skipped this console and bought a Wii-U that could also play the Wii.
Wii was in the news all the time back in the day. I think it was the most hyped console in 'mainstream' media.
People were living in a different bubble time.

If what S SneakersSO said is true than changing has began but it will probably affect ps6 gen and not this one... IF they decide to extend the gen to 2030 maybe the ps5 will end on a strong note.

And I dont know how they will solve the "modern" issues with californian studios...

Its not affecting anything! You think the state of Xbox isn't going to help Playstation out next gen?

PS5

Although I do think the switch is up there. I am absolutely fucking loving the switch 2 and it's all that I've been playing, but the switch 1 was just too damn weak. It was a chore to even browse the eShop. Having said that, it had a ton of phenomenal exclusives. Really really really good ones.

And I'm not arguing at the switch is bad or anything. Just overrated.

it's living up to its hype, in one year it will have 4 major exclusives, MK World, DK Bonanza, Prime 4, and The Duskbloods
The Switch 2 needs some time, yes, but people are impatient.

That's probably why the PS5 got so many votes, even though we clearly live in a time where hardware cycles are lasting longer than ever.

From the list, probably the Wii
The motion controls are basically the definition of a gimmick, even Nintendo mostly moved away from them. And the overall library of games is pretty meh, the Galaxy games were really good and I enjoyed FE Radiant Dawn (though Path of Radiance was better IMO) but other than that I struggle to remember any notable games. Skyward Sword was ok but easily the worst 3D Zelda IMO.

Not from the list, probably the DS.
Everyone always comments how amazing it was, but to me it was pretty unremarkable. I enjoyed the 3DS way more.

Those 2 are more than notable imo.

People seem to default to Nintendo games when judging Nintendo consoles, but imo the N64, GC and Wii all had great third party games.

PS5 is 5 years old, and still lacking Sony's exclusives, it deserves all the votes

Muramasa was indeed cool, I forgot about that one.
Never played Sin and Punishment.
