Im liking the indoor environments quite a bit, outdoors slightly less so but still not bad. Character animations could use some substantial improvement however. Looks decidedly better than older footage which is encouraging.

I have no doubt that Machine Games make great 1st person games, so that is not the issue. I just think Indy deserves to always be in the frame.

Agree 100%. I just don't see why Machine games can't make third person games. Plenty of studios have made games unlike their previous ones. If Machine Games is so entrenched in first person then that seems like a massive limitation overall.

Also why does the entire movement and everything feel like the video is playing at 0.75 speed? It looks so weird. Nothing looks impactful, solid or natural. I really hope it's just not showing well though because I really want a cool Indy game.

Only thing I am concerned about is game length.

Hopefully its meaty adventure that I can play for 30-40 hrs.

Played both Prey and Dishonored 2 for some 40-50 hrs.

Looks kinda boring, like it’s just sluggish and there’s no energy or pace to anything. Even Troy Baker’s Harrison Ford impression sounds like he’s drunk or half asleep.

Or is it just one of Phil's balls in my throat?

Don't think it's gonna be that long, but they recently said the game has around 3~ hours of cut-scenes (gotta milk that Ford likeness) so I'm guessing it'll be 15~20~ hours long like New Colossus if you try do do all optional stuff.

Graphics are kinda shit - but it looks like an immersive sim. Which I’m super down for if pulled off. Don’t need another uncharted or tomb raider - also don’t get the third person die hards. Seriously there is more than enough third person shit

The fact this transitions so much into third person when he's doing stuff like climbing just says this game should be in third person the whole time.

I get the feeling the only reason it's mostly in first person is to avoid Uncharted comparisons.
Have you played chronicles of riddick by the same guys? It does the same exact thing. First person the majority then transitions to third for specific things

Is that low framerate at 1:00 happening for everyone else or is it on my end?
The scene 15 seconds before with w train has clearly a variable frame rate, last half of a second it jumps dramatically.

Overall - meh from me, I dislike token exotic tropes. Really, first thing the locals say is: “Can you tell us a story of a prince and a great serpent?”. Yes, people in foreign lands do nothing else than listen to stories from mysterious old women all day.

This is shaping up to be a massive disappointment

Just so many terrible decisions went into this. First person neuters the combat possibilities. This game’s combat should have been a hybrid of Batman + Spider-Man where you can take on multiple enemies at once and do a lot of sick and stylish combos

Walking around with no music hearing Indy breath and doing a bunch of boring ass stealth is just not going to land well.

Much of this game will rest on how good the puzzles, exploration, and story are but it’s looking to be nowhere near enough to make up for the poor gameplay in combat and traversal

Big missed opportunity and I fear this studio may be in trouble. Troy Baker’s performance is excellent however

I think I will end up spending that much time.

If its meaty like Dishonoured 2.

Anything shorter, 7-8 hrs game would be disappointing.

Does this game just look slow or is it me?

Also the amount of cinematics and in-game loading / slow walking sequences I'm seeing compared to actual fun looking gameplay is a bit worrying.

If a heavy narrative and cinematic game is what they're going for then that's fine, I just assumed it would lean in the other direction a lot more.

Where are you seeing cinematic direction?

Outside of cut scenes I don’t see any cinematic influences. Will be surprised if it took away control for some exposition etc.

The traversal looks so bad :(

Still could be good tho….the puzzles, exploration, and story …”vibes” need to be extremely strong

I really didn't expect this to be a first person title. Could have been a good contender against the Uncharted series.

I don't know, just feels off in some ways to me.
Yeah he even goes into third person mode when climbing with the whip - the first person stuff looks totally gross and inappropriate.

Is this new footage? Looks super choppy at times. And it’s coming out in just over a month? Hmmm. I smell a delay coming here. Or another patched-up-for-months release.

Not the best showcase.

Great voice acting anyhow, I don’t understand how they’ve got him to sound this similar to Harrison Ford. Some kind of AI filter?

And I like the messy office where he turn off the desk lamp, looks great, the clutter to make a game world look lived-in is almost always forgotten in games.

Art direction and graphics look good, but everything else looks mediocre af.

Animations are mediocre, combat seems mediocre and gameplay looks dull overall.
And is it me or is the framerate terrible?

I really liked Thief 1-3, Dishonored 1-2 and Chronicles of Riddick both Butcher Bay and Assault on Dark Athena. If it's done right it will be immersive.

In Riddick you could go guns blazing or had a stealth approach, smiliarly to Wolfenstein.

I don't see the problem Indy game could play both ways, if done right.

But for now it's wait and see for me. I still have to watch the trailer when I'm at home. Can't do that at work.

Thank fuck you’re not in charge of game design. Batman/Spiderman brawling 😂

I will judge after gameplay, but I too am a wee bit disappointed its first person.

Someone earlier in the thread lowered the standards bar even more by suggesting that it would be weird if it did not look like the Wolfenstein games they made aesthetically as it has Nazi too. Standard for success for some seem to be minor palette swap… tadaaah ;).

Indiana Jones, Riddick, and Wolfenstein… find the odd one out there… ;).

The melee stuff looks really fucking rough. And I sort of expected that to be the one thing that they would nail. Weird. Maybe it’s just the overall so-so animation quality that fucks with it.

They play exactly how I do - really slowly walking around and moving the camera as slowly as possible to hide performance issues.
