Indie Games 2015 [October] Let's talk about anything Indie!

Does anyone have any news about Routine? Looking on the developers site the last update was in March. I think it was one of the first games I voted on Greenlight.

Oh, I was totally under the impression that Routine was beta SOMA. I didn't know it was a different game made by different people. It's been so long since I have thought about it really.

Damn, The Swapper... this is on the description:

And of course I have an Intel 4000 and the game crashes as soon as it starts :crying-emoticon:
I'm on Intel HD 5500, and had a Intel HD 3000 in my previous laptop, and could run The Swapper on both laptops

My suggestion:
1) In the client, right click on The Swapper
2) Go to Properties
3) Go to the Betas tab
4) Select one of the other versions (Compatibility, Intel Fix, Intel Fix 2) and close the menu
5) Install the version and see if it runs

Compatibility beta worked perfectly, thanks a lot More_Badass!!! :D :D :D

Albert & Otto - $4.99 (PC)

http://store.steampowered.com/app/368590/

Albert & Otto is a story about a boy and his abducted sister's magical bunny. They embark on a journey to find her, overcoming murderous beasts and lethal puzzles by working together.

Picked this one up last night and put in about an hour and a half. Really love the monochrome look, and it has some lovely parallax. It's like a film negative of Limbo. So far it's a fairly simple puzzle platformer. It's got some interesting mechanics, albeit they're a little rough, but I'm enjoying it so far.

An alpha demo is available here: http://www.indiedb.com/games/albert-and-otto/downloads/albert-and-otto-alpha-demo-v01

Will try and add some steam games tomorrow but struggling to make time just now with so many other things going on apols for not getting much added recently.

The Swapper has a great atmosphere and a unique premise with cloning to solve puzzles that I am going to enjoy, very much.

Out There Somewhere same as above, unique mechanic of shooting yourself with a portal gun, very short game well worth the current sale price of 0.19 cents.

The Deer God is the way to play this game, lightyears ahead of the iOS version.

Full Bore is interesting but is really easy to get lost and dont know what to do, but has charm.

CaveStory is... hard, really hard but I can see its quality.

Dungeon of the Endless is... a neat blend of genre into one, been explained the mechanics and need to play more, but... right now... is fantastic.

Divide by Sheep is an ingenious and fun math puzzle game of slicing sheep in half. Surprisingly fun.

Knightmare Tower is really fun as always but the controller gives it a plus over the iOS version. Will finish this one now on Steam.

World of Goo was my first interaction with the indie scene years ago and the game that made me love indie games forever. It's all kinds of perfection.

Full Bore is simply amazing, the mechanics are simple but are applied in interesting ways, as you said it's easy to get lost on the level.

If you think Cave Story is hard for now, just wait until the more challegening parts xD

And Dungeon of the Endless is the of the game that just confirmed Amplitude Studio and one of of the best tracks on games released, all of them released titles are quality ones.

I couldn't get into Baldurs Gate, but damn, Pillars of Eternity is great. I love the uncluttered easy-to-navigate UI, and the game looks gorgeous

I can't blame you for that. I love the baldurs gate games but their strengths are in their story, characters and world design. Not the UI and combat which I imagine makes them tough to get into this far from their release. I need to get back into pillars of eternity, made a death godlike monk which proved to be a bit of a misstep, not a great race for monk and I'm not a masssive fan of playing as them. Tempted to restart as a full on rogue assassin or pure magic slinger when I get the chance to.

Not entirely sure this is allowed, but my good friends (and ex roommates) over at Sundae Month just launched a kickstarter.
https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/1376104797/dad-quest
Some might remember past Sundae Month games Petrichor, Shape Down, Sabbotage, and others, a few of which have been featured in previous Indie Games threads.
Good luck! Been following Dad Quest for a few months now on TIG, had written a preview of it on my blog back in August

BundleStars having a big indie sale right now. Mostly the well known titles, but good to pick up any you might have waited on before. Happy Halloween all!

OlliOlli 2 75% off coupon here - http://na.alienwarearena.com/giveaways/olliolli-2-75-steam-discount-key-giveaway (More Devolver coupons here, including Dropsy, Talos, HLM2, and Shadow Warrior).

It'll last until the end of the year, and it should stack with discounts (I picked up Talos for $12).

I'd been interested in Talos for a while now too - mainly due to all its praise - but I really hadn't researched it much. At 12 bucks, I'm in. Thanks for the heads up.

I had checked out Albert & Otto a while back and found the controls kind of janky, didn't find it very fun

It is still kind of janky, and a few spots have been a bit nebulous, but I'm a sucker for a solid puzzle platformer with a bold art style.

What's the name of that indie game, still unreleased I think, that basically plays out in a MSN Messenger skin? You're talking to a girl and have dialogue choices etc.

Baddy - what laptop do you have?

I've just moved to London and I will be PC-less until I get into a bigger place, so I'm looking for a decent laptop that can run indies/Divinity/Rocket League and isn't going to cost me a fortune.

Reliquary - PC

No problem! I've been playing it all weekend, and I'm having a hell of a time putting it down. The puzzles are very fun to experiment with, and they never really feel too difficult (knock on wood). I definitely recommend it to anyone who enjoys these types of puzzle games.

I did run into some motion sickness early on, but the game does come with a ton of options to fight that (3rd person mode is where it's at). The demo should be a good test for anyone who has ever had that issue.

Oh crap, the Serpent in the Staglands devs are working on a cyberpunk RPG

The Great Whale Road - 2016 (PC, Mac, Linux)

xo - ????

Hi there!

Joachim, co-founder and CEO of Sunburned Games, here. I have been quietly watching for the last month as my account wasn't activated yet. We are getting ready for our Kickstarter for The Great Whale Road on the 17th of November. There has been a lot of progress since you found our game and put it in on this list.

This is from Friday's build of our Kickstarter multiplayer demo:

Today is the release day of PONCHO, a platformer where you play as a robot trying to find his master and restore the planet in an open world, gameplay has you switching layers to advance and solve puzzles. Looks great from the videos I seen. Cant wait, will be out on Steam in 3 hours... :D

Anyone playing Party Hard?

I've been on the fence like twelve times since it came out but I've never quite tipped over the edge into purchaseland. Almost all the vids of gameplay I've seen make it look real fun for like the first two minutes of each level and then ten to fifteen minutes of just waiting for the remaining few NPCs to move randomly into the optimal positions to finish the level. Kinda turns me off the full price although I'll give the developers credits for adding in like seven more level for free, that was pretty badass.

Yeah I am also on the fence with it, but less times xD Agree on the waiting for the NPCs to move at the end of the level (also watched several gameplay videos), but the game itself looks really fun. Didnt know about the seven free levels might investigate that (havent read reviews only videos). Might get it, is 8$ on some website compatible with Steam.

If you have a look at their latest update on their store page I believe it will talk a bit about the added stages. Their should be a video preview there too of a few of them. They got some crazy lookin Cthulhuesk madness in some of the bonus parties.

The after party looks amazing. I guess I am up for some slaughtering for 8$ then, just have to eat at home today lol

In case you were hoping for more cyberpunk news, the devs of The Masterplan are also working on a new cyberpunk game

Just read about Poncho on the PlayStation Blog, which is coming out today on PS4. Holy crap this game looks great, has their been any previews anywhere??

I heard it was a short game but resembled FEZ in 2D. Seems great I want it as well...

Not many reviews at the moment.

Destructoid gave it a 6/10
http://www.destructoid.com/review-poncho-318651.phtml

Hmmm, a 6... is Destructoid trust worthy?

Destructoid is usually pretty solid in my opinion, and the review doesn't sound like it's terrible. I get the sense that it just isn't the reviewer's type of game more than anything. For a similar style of play, Giana Sisters is a fun one and didn't have the pitfalls mentioned in the review.

Also Destructoid is one of those sites that says they use the "Full Scale" meaning 5 is average. So a 6 here would be slightly above average.

Which is generally different from the whole:

UjjrE.png

Wow that is an indeed very different scoring system. So according to them, Westerados and Lovers in a Dangerous Spacetime are both Possible GOTY material as they got a 10. Interesting. A 6 is... not good to them but I agree that maybe the reviewer were fond of the twitch side of it.

You're misunderstanding

The chart is how a lot of sites tend to use a review scale (i.e. most reviews range from 7 to 10)

While Destructoid tends to not do that, so 5 or 6 actually is an average score indicating an average game

I played a little bit of Poncho earlier. Sadly I had to refund the purchase due to the frequent frame rate slows I was suffering from but I got a bit into the game. My limited time with it was interesting although I must admit I was not totally blown away by its gameplay gimmick and early progression. Although I would be lying if I didn't say I wasn't in the best of moods playing it due to the tech problems so I certainly wouldn't take this comment as a review.
