Indie Games 2016 [March] Nope, still not done

Still page 1 in pro 100ppp mode

edit: on topic... sort of, these threads are what I call the "mobile browser crushers." I can never get them to fully load on my Galaxy S5 :P

Thanks for the Momodora impressions, One Foul Note. Between that one and the impressions from the OT, decided to check it out. Only played for a few minutes, but man, the combat feels super tight. The dodge roll, seamless switching between melee and ranged, the heft of your attacks and the fluid smooth animations. Yeah, I'm going to enjoy this a lot

Ahh excellent, glad your enjoying it. Sorry for not being able to answer your earlier questions, I was out. As it stands I don't believe the game has any major alternate weapons although it does have kinda subweapons in the form of active skills you pick up and buy. And yeah, the animations are a real treat. Their are a fair few little touches I like, for example the way the protagonist climbs up ladders normally but on the descent she slides down them action style.

I ran into Starsector again, thanks to the space games thread. Anyone here play it? Any idea if it will eventually come to steam?

I played it a fair bit an age ago, back when it was still under its original game (I want to say Star Traveler, but I really can't remember.) And then a bit a year ago or so. I always really enjoyed the combat system and flux management and stuff. But the underdeveloped content around that always turned me off after a bit (although as I say, it was a while ago so hopefully they have worked on that a bit.) I do hope it hits steam at some point, the extra sales and publicity could be just what the team needs to finally kick it out the door done.

Looking at some videos of the 0.7 version, it seems everything VoidExpanse wanted to be and more.

Back in the day one of the first games I got super super into was Escape Velocity for my Mac. Due to that I will always have a special place in my heart for top down space games. I'm always awaiting the day till the next one comes out.

Momodora: Reverie Under the Moonlight - $9.99 (PC)

Wow, that looks really cool.

I might have to bootcamp over to windows to try it. I wish they also made these games Mac compatible. Oh well, ever since I tried to install some drivers to make my controller play nice with emulators, it hasn't worked on mac anyway.

I also am awaiting Deadbolt. This seems to a big year for good indie games.

Moon Hunters embargo is lifted and I am allowed to share gameplay footage with you:

Ritualist Gameplay (more on the channel):

If you have any questions about the game just ask me. I have logged in around 10 hours and the game has left a positive impression (some may find it too short).

Finally diving into Grim Dawn. Never played Titan Quest or Diablo, so this is my first real game like this.

Grim Dawn is really good, looking forward to your impressions of the genre. First time I dipped into it, I didnt crawl out until weeks later.

First action RPG? Hope you enjoy yourself. If you get mega into it their is a whole mad rabbithole of games for you to try.
I mean, I've played Souls and Skyrim and such. I mean specifically that kind of loot-based isometric RPG. There's no more specific name? A Diablo-like?

Oh yeah, I did understand what you meant but I said action RPG when I should have been more specific, my fault. A fair few names get thrown around but the name I generally like is hack'n slash rpgs. It's a bit of a brutal term but accurately describes the destroy, loot, improve, repeat addictive loop of those games.

Sorry for the mini bump. I got to play this yesterday at PAX South and it was my favorite game that I played. Here is my tale.

It felt so good. That tweet sums it up pretty well. The game is no slouch.

The first time I played it I did not make it very far at all. The map is procedurally generated and rooms have branching paths so pressing the trigger brings up a map to keep track of where you are. I got through maybe 7 rooms. I wasn't avoiding the enemies bullets enough failed to use the table cover properly when I needed it. Most of my health was taken by a couple of ghosts that disappear and reappear somewhere else in the room. I was able to make it past a couple more rooms even though I only had one heart left before I was taken out. I was in a room with maybe about 5 enemies and flipped a table to block one enemy but another was able to get me from the side to finish me off.

I kept wanting more though so I had to go back later in the day. I did much better that time around. I made sure to use the dodge a lot more since it makes you invincible and made it a lot father than my previous attempt. I ended up finding a big loot chest that the dev was surprised I got since it was pretty rare that it gets generated in the demo. The loot chest was the end of the road for the path I had taken so after I brought up the map I was able to teleport back to a select room instead of having to backtrack. I ended up running out of ammo for one of my guns so I had to hold off getting killed in the room until an ammo crate came flying in. I accidentally picked the ammo up for my original gun instead of the cool non-automatic magnum like gun I had found so the dev spawned in a new ammo crate for me to use. Just when I started feeling good about how far I was progressing, I got to a room where I cleared everybody out except for one enemy who flipped up a table and took cover. I approached him to finish off the area and him quickly moved out of cover and ended my time with the game.

Can't wait for this to come out. I'm there Day 1 without a doubt.

so apparently moon hunters is out in two days

any hype for this?

has anyone played it yet?

Super neat art style, looks like it would be more fun with more players though.

My to buy list is growing larger and larger each month. The Witness and Firewatch from last month and Enter the Gungeon, ADR1FT and Samorost 3 from this. Had a few euros on my Steam Wallet from Steam Cards sales and got Hyper Rogue. Good times.

Too many games, not enough time to play them all

Just got into Grim Dawn, which finally tore me away from SuperHOT. Already put 20 hours into SuperHOT. Got Enter The Gungeon on deck for April, No Man's Sky in June.

Looking forward to a few Kickstarters too, mainly Fabular and Copper Dreams

The Solus Project (Early Acccess/ Xbox Preview) - 14.99€ (PC, Xbox One)

Oh that's cool. I always wondered what happened to that team post Ball (as I do with a fair few devs tbh, it seems sadly not too uncommon for devs to go dark shortly after they've released their games.)

Is anyone aware of any upcoming isometric aRPGs? (Diablo, Grim Dawn, Torchlight etc).

Was watching some Gungeon gameplay from PAX, and some early footage from last year, and now I'm a lot more excited than I already was. It looks so good, and looks like it has a level of polish and depth that even recent gems like Nuclear Throne lack. The little details like objects tumbling onto the floor when you flip a table over for cover, the fact you can flip tables over for cover, the synergy between weapons and unique abilities of some weapons, the AI trying to flank or snipers hanging back, needing to reload and having clip sizes rather than unlimited ammo, the dodge roll...

I know this is a bit cheeky, but I've followed these threads forever and have always wanted to appear on one of these lists :) (I usually only post in the indie dev thread). We put out our debut trailer for Beacon today, maybe you folks might be interested?

Been following Beacon for months, it's looking good! When can I throw money at you? ;p

That looks rad. Love the art!

Thank you!!

Looks fantastic! Do you have an ETA for PC/Mac release?

Nothing concrete right now, but we're aiming to release around the same time as Xbox. Hopefully within the next 12 months!

Thank you so much for making a thread! Sadly probably not for a while :( but if any of you folks are at GDC you can come and play it at the Unity booth! :D

And just like that, Isaac has its hooks back in me. Gungeon hype had me playing the roguelite shooters in my library, and I had an amazing BoI: Rebirth run on my first time playing the game since September. I got all the way to the end and killed Mom for my first time ever. I had an awesome slew of items that gave me: 9 lives, toxic tears, spectral companion that also fired tears, fly swarm when I got injured, speed and damage up, and hovering so I could fly over gaps, spikes, poison, etc.

Actually playing Rebirth highlighted why I'm pretty excited for Gungeon. One of the biggest, if not the main, appeal of Isaac is seeing what random crazy items you find, but so much of your success is based on stacking items. The core gameplay is essentially firing one (very heavily modifiable) attack while evading like a mad man. There's no finesse. On the other hand, Nuclear Throne is much faster and just as hectic, but far more skill-based, as you deftly use your dodging and special skill, and has way more satisfying combat.

Gungeon looks like it blends the best of both. The thrill of finding some crazy new gun or stacking power-up and the weird crazy enemies of Isaac, with the satisfying shooting and more skillful action of Throne. On top of that, the three gun loadout should allow for a bit more strategy due to weapon synergies.
