Infamous: First Light |OT| Make Fetch Happen

Man, these side missions are garbage. And the story missions aren't much better.

I was hoping for a bit of an improvement over SS in this regard. Not a step backwards.

Well I think they had on open position for a Lead Mission Designer awhile ago, but yeah, they DEFINITELY need a lot of improvement in this area.

Which is a shame too, because they had some pretty good missions in inFamous 2, which makes me wonder how they're so bad in Second Son and First Light.

Speaking of inFamous 2, what I wouldn't do for an HD Remake of that...

I believe any game made before 1997 is "essentially cave man art."
After grabbing all the collectibles I finally finished the main story last night. Took about 5 hours or so (guessing). I'd say Second Son is my personal GOTY, which makes this dlc so...underwhelming? The story bits were nice but the missions were boring and the powers weren't too different or more powerful than Delsin's. Overall I'd probably give it a 6 or 7 outta ten.

I beat this last night. I'm quite happy with it. It's pretty meaty for a $15 DLC/Game with these production values. When people were saying it was about 5 hours long I didn't believe them, because Second Son took like 11 hours to 100% and 5 hours for a quarter of the price seemed too good in comparison, but that's about what it took me to beat it, yeah.

Also, I liked this a lot more than Second Son. I don't dislike Delson, but I like Fetch a lot more, and I think Fetch just straight up plays a lot better than Delson. Switching back to Delson in the Combat arena really hit this home for me, he's much slower and less fun to play as than Fetch. Can't really go back.

Gonna wrap up the rest of the trophies today, I think.

I still don't understand this statis + weak point kill trophy.

I thought it was where you put an enemy in a purple bubble and then hit triangle to kill them, but doing that isn't making my total kills go above 0. So what am I doing wrong?

It means stasis + shoot them in their glowing weak point once they're stasis'd.

So far I think the impressions have been a bit underwhelming

Yeah, Infamous 2 was terrific. The best game in the series IMO.

Yeah, I'm not sure what to do with that information. I planned to get this this weekend, but maybe I should hold off for a sale. I waited for a sale for Festival of Blood and I found that game really inferior to Infamous 2. Sounds like maybe the same thing here.

I'm onto my last two challenges before I get the platinum, they're both for blasting enemies off a platform. Anyone know an easy way of doing this?

Finished the main part last night. Took about 4 hours and that includes all collectibles and challenges in Seattle. I liked the plot and the lead in to Second Son, although Fetch was a bit more whiny than I was hoping. The missions were very mediocre and collectibles were boring, but as usually the game plays like a dream. The 'races' were kind of fun, I'd like to see an actual online racing mode against other players, that'd be cool.

Played a bit in the battle arena's last night. I could see myself getting some mileage out of this. I wasn't able to get 500k+ on any arenas on the first try, came close on Alpha and Beta survival with 350k+. Challenges seem like they will be the hardest part of the plat.

Any tips for the arenas?

Mmmmmm. Can Sucker Punch just make 2 or 3 of these short story games a year instead of big releases once every 3? We'd get to see much more condensed and emotional stories, a wider range of a deeper moveset of powers. They'd get more money from us. I'm not so hot for Eugene but I'd buy another $15 5 hour game all about him and his powers.

I thought the exact same thing when I finsihed. I'd love to see a Eugene and Hank 5-hour content. But maybe move it to the other section of the city? However I did like Delsin's story better than Fetch's.

Played for around two hours doing story sidequests and challenges and just love it. Much prefer the city traversal- just so bloody fast! Arena seems cool too, especially the combo meter.

A company being excited for their new game is a huge slap in the face to all the fans that liked their old games.
Is anybody else getting license check errors on it. I'm locked out of even starting the game.

Digital future my ass...

The beta survival wasn't that hard at all, but the rescue modes are a pain in the ass.

There seems to be some issues with PSN, as it couldn't access the leaderboard. I could login to the network, but it's slower than usual.

Keep the multiplier up. If you're good at that, then reaching 500k should only take you about 10 minutes.

The campaign was pretty entertaining, but not as much as the main game's, eventhough I did like Fetch's neon powers, the traversal speed, getting the collectibles, and the short escort missions. I just didn't find the arena that enjoyable to play. Getting 250,000 points was painstaking enough, let alone double of that. It's all too easy to end up with too many enemies to handle due to the frequency of the waves, and the layout of the arenas. A lower score limit for the trophies would have been better. That's what I don't like about this DLC, and the same goes for Resogun's Heroes add-on, as getting the trophies shouldn't be that much harder than it's in the main game. It looks like both of the DLCs will remain uncompleted for me, but I'll try if it becomes more feasible after maxing out all the powers.

What? Isn't the point of trophies/achievements to be things that you earn? Aren't they supposed to be a challenge? Just something I don't get. My friend is huge on achievements but if some are too challenging he won't do them, yet he talks about how they're awesome because they show people how you've progressed and stuff. I'm on the opposite side and just don't care about trophies/achievements and just simply have fun with the games.

There's enjoyable challenge, and a frustrating one. My point was though, that I don't like it when a DLC is harder to complete than the main game. For example, I platinumed Resogun and found it enjoyably challenging (apart from the 15x trophy), which is something the Heroes DLC is not from my point of view. I also found it refreshing how doable the platinum was in Second Son, as most games are just too frustratingly hard on higher difficulty level. The more feasible the trophies are for the less hardcore collectors, the more likely they're going to keep on playing the games.

I also like how the trophies record my progress, just like your friend, and how they offer additional mini-missions. Naturally I skip on doing those, which I don't find entertaining enough.

Might have been asked before, but how do I find the "unknown" collectables in the city zones? I've got all the lumens, races, and paint in Seattle Center, but it's 90% because the "unknown."

Yeah. Well at one point I was doing achievements, but then I did some really stupid ones. Like that one in Dead Rising where you gotta live through that survival mode for like 48 real life hours or something. Having to basically gather enough food, climb on top of a fridge, and just remembering to feed Frank some pizza every now and then so he doesn't die, then leaving the console paused and on over night so you can continue.

The first Assassin's Creed flag gathering was something I was not going to do. lol. Pretty much all the gathering stuff in AC was not fun.

So yeah, there are some that are fun to get, but generally I don't really go for the achievements/trophies themselves anymore. Since this game does require you to complete challenges to get more points to increase Fetch's powers, it's somewhat of an incentive to do it. I much prefer doing challenges if it unlocks in-game stuff over some trophy count or gamerscore. Just how I work.

Finished it, don't mind the subtle changes to Fetch's story but I agree,
Fetch killing Brent over drugs sounds a lot of sympathetic to her character. But Shane is a good jerkass villain.
Was disappointing there was no bosses though.

Kinda wish we would get one more slice of DLC before SP moves on.

C'mon Lightning powers.

Do the story missions get any better? I just got the half way trophy and they've been terribly bland so far.

They're pretty much similar to Second Son to me. Not really amazing. Most of it was sniping from roofs, keeping guys away from the truck you're on, and stuff like that. I kinda liked the last mission though. And the stuff after the flashback. But I mean in the end it's mostly just killing off dudes like always. I didn't really expect anything amazing with the missions really. Just feels good to be in control of someone who is so good at movement and is so precise with her attacks. And her melee is fun to me lol.

Finished it.

Not bad, I felt like neon was more fun with Fetch :)

Would give SS an 8 and First Light a 7.5

Mission design holds this back, but the Battle Arena is addictive for me and the overall story was pretty nice. Weird how they made me actually have feels for Brent, the actors are brilliant!

I'm not finished with the story yet but I think I'm enjoying this more than I did Second Son. I kind of like just having one power with a lot of different ways to use it.

I also like the (so far) lack of (I guess I'll spoiler this just in case)
moral decisions in this. The ones in Second Son are just so black and white with absolutely no moral middle ground.

Yep. Glad I didn't have to worry about that. Also means you can just go around
beating up civilians without consequence.

Yeah Fetch is significantly more enjoyable but it's disappointing they can't come with some more interesting missions.

Just finished it. The last 1/3 was amazing. Also... Shane was played by the same guy who did Reggie. But they could have changed his face more, that was just Reggie with long hair.

Now for the platinum.

i'd prefer a remake of the first one...not as big a fan of 2

started playing last night and i've already got all the lumens...didn't take very long to get them

Finished the story mode. I was disappointed in the mission design, since Second Son was clearly rushed to meet the launch window so I could see how the mission design in that was crappy, but First Light didn't need to meet any window so I was half hoping to see better mission design. Unfortunately the missions in this are about as bland as SS's were (with the exception of the very last one maybe).

Story wise, eh, I don't feel they did Fetch's backstory justice. Far too much time in the story was spent on "filler mission" style story. As in, a lot of the first half of the story mode was just a string of "go do this for me" that didn't advance the storyline. It's pretty uninspiring considering the whole campaign was only 4 hours long. Disappointing that they couldn't think of a storyline that was tight through what was only a handful of missions. Shane was fairly one-dimensional, and the brief introduction of characters like Jenny were absolutely pointless. All in all, I felt it just meandered. I really wish they hadn't put Brent in a damsel-in-distress role. I really wish they would've done something like they did with Reggie, where he would be an active helper on your side. HUGE missed opportunity barely devoting any of these 4 hours on the relationship between Brent and Fetch. All we get in this DLC are more memories and more "he's so great", except we never see it because the game chose to make him a Princess Peach only to
lazily kill him off at the very end because they kinda had to. I also really didn't appreciate the mild retcon at the end, where they do these lame writing gymnastics so that Fetch does kill Brent but TECHINCALLY it wasn't her fault because she was under hallucinogens given to her by Shane. Really? I mean, she didn't even mention Shane in any of her backstory when Delsin was reading her mind during Second Son. That's not exactly a small detail to leave out.
All in all, the writing was lame, felt lazy, and had a lot of inexplicable filler despite being a very short story. The writers copped out every chance they could, both in developing Brent and Fetch as brother and sister and copping out of having to show her killing Brent under the influence of drugs in the way they described it in Second Son. Pretty freaking lame seeing the story writers trying hard to avoid writing Fetch's backstory in a DLC about her backstory...

Gameplay was great. Her powers are awesome and they FINALLY made Neon's traversal powers interesting. I hated neon in Second Son because there was nothing to do. All you did in SS was hold O and push the stick in one direction and Delsin would go in a straight line. It killed all of the fun traversal present in the inFamous series up until that point. But the addition of speed + the boosters scattered throughout + the floating collectibles made it a fast and frantic affair. I loved it. Plus her fast punching and powers that began to shy away from the standard third-person-shooter tropes so painfully present in Second Son was a very welcome change.

I haven't yet delved too deep into the Battle Arenas. I've been reading it's the best part so I'm looking forward to it. The inFamous series has always been better about the gameplay than about telling a story, anyway. I just wanted to sound off on the story mode.

Alright, just 100%'d first light. The arena mode is perfect for podcasts and I managed to make it into the top 500 in the final survival mode map. Overall I stick with my 6 - 7 score but there's plenty of content, probably about 10 hrs worth.

Just finished the main story. Unsure if I'll go back, but oh man. That last level was a showstopper to me.

INFAMOUS: FIRST LIGHT SPOILERS

Man, you -really- see how fucked up she is at the start of Second Son. Good lord. Shane deserved everything he got. It's kind of sad to see Fetch get manipulated by Shane, then Augustine, just going from one evil to another

But ya, awesome DLC, well worth the scratch, and I think it was better than Second Son.
