inFAMOUS - The oFFicial Thread

I love this game.

The graphics, the story, the presentation, etc. are all good, but the core gameplay is amazing and makes this game feel very good. It's just...fun. Really fun. inFAMOUS might end up being my favorite game of this gen so far.

e. Got both vouchers from GameStop. Haven't put the code in for the blades yet, will do that now actually.

No one should have gottend the 2nd UC2 code. That is for people who reserve UC2 and it seems like quite a few gamestops got confused and handed them out to infamous customers thinking that is the beta which it is not.

Ahhh, so that "second UC2 voucher" is actually a preorder bonus for UC2 itself, not for Infamous?

In all honesty, I suppose I can understand the confusion.
Thanks for clarifying. :)

I should have my own impressions up later tonight!

As soon as you get to the mission where you have to keep the dust men from freeing alden, that strategy doesn't work anymore. Killing 10+ normal mobs and two giant golems in a very restricted courtyard is HARD, and I mean Radec-fight hard :(
Why were you moving around? I beat that level by standing on the platform. You can constantly heal yourself without moving a bit. Youre completely left open for gunfire but that doesnt matter.

:lol I remember that. I remember getting the mission, looking over to the general area and saying outloud:

"...by the gods..."
No fair! I still have 3 hours of work. Fuuuuuuuccckkkkkkk.

The golems moved near me and did their ground pound which knocked me off the platform. At this time i had to move.

15 minutes until I get out of the office and go pick up my pre-order at GS.

Then, I have family and dog issues to attend to before I can enjoy inFAMOUS in peace.

Okay, I beat the game once, halfway through my second run on Hard...

I think I've pretty much come across everything I would dislike in the game.

- The animations during cutscenes. My god, they look so amateur. The animations literally pause when they're done, and wait for the next cue (such as Cole talking) to unfreeze and continue the jerkiness. It really does detract from the immersiveness at times... because aurally, it's amazing, but then it's paired up with these Tomb Raider 1-esque animations and it's just distracting.
- Enemy behavior/accuracy. I understand ramping up the difficulty makes enemies "smarter" and better shots in most games, but c'mon now... I'm getting shot with pinpoint accuracy from every direction possible at times. One mission in particular, had me going into battle with 3 allies. What did the enemies do? COMPLETELY IGNORE THE ALLIES and focus completely on me. I wasn't even doing anything, just surveying the action. Just wow.
- Gameplay glitches. I've run into at least 15 invisible walls in my 15 or so hours with the game, had Cole fall through the earth (another nod to Tomb Raider 1!), gone through at least a hundred environmental objects I want to grab on to, etc.
- Side mission variety. I won't go over this one again.

Fortunately, the fights are satisifying (when you're not being cheaped to hell), the platforming exhilarating (when it works), the characters were thought about very well (albeit sometimes a bit on the annoying side), and the story is superb.

I'd say the reviews got it right. 9 is about right.

Out of curiosity, what is so good about it?

Well, its the first one i've ever had :lol but its got a fold out map of all the blastshards in the game, and theres a section of cool art that takes up both sides of the book. Its just thorough and well designed as well. Maybe it doesnt stand out from other strategy guides, cause I dont really know what they usually look like but I am impressed with its quality (and full coloured pages throughout). I got it free so I expected it to suck.

But is there some bad pun you can make? Maybe it has "INFAMOUS-LY LONG LOAD TIMES"!??! Or "This time, COLE-TRAIN isn't riding just another third person shooter!"

Ah gotcha. Whenever I encounter one of them I instantly start spamming shock grenades. I literally ignore everything else
:lol

I spam the megawatt hammer and zap 'em to recharge. Will try the grenades though, maybe they'll do the trick :)

Forgot to post this earlier:
The initial level in this game completely blew me away. The atmosphere was so strong and it looked great. I really hope that there are more missions like that later on.

Question:

Does the Uncharted Voucher come inside or outside of the inFAMOUS case?

I wanted to buy inFAMOUS at launch, but I've ran into money problems. I 'do' have enough money to buy the game, but I really need the money. I was planning on buying the game, getting the voucher, then returning the [unopened] game until I get paid next Friday.

Will it work? Or is the voucher inside?

The voucher is in the box.

Dammit.

I don't wanna have to wait until I get paid and possibly have the vouchers be gone by then.

Okay, well now I know. I have to start begging for a $60 loan. :lol

Thanks.

If Im in a fight for my life, Im not ignoring the guy that can shoot electricity from his hands. I dont care if hes taking a piss in the corner, I want him deader than dead immediately.

I mostly agree with everything else you said but at the same time I cant say they matter. With the frequency of missions and side missions in this game, I wouldnt care one way or another if the characters were well acted and well animated. I mostly want them to shut up so I can blow things up. If every mission began with a GTA style cutscene Id get tired of it quickly (as I did in that game for that matter). There are just too many.

And compared to many other games of this nature, the side missions are about 5 times as varied. Assassins Creed was just brutal with the repetition. GTA4 was pretty up there as well. In this game, youre not doing a billion different things but youre not only doing three things either.

I agree this game is about a 9 as well. It isnt perfect but at the same time, the flaws are so minute they arent even worth mentioning because they dont take away from my experience. One of the best games I played this gen and I doubted the hell outta this game when they first showed videos.

I echo this sentiment completely. I wasn't going to buy this game at all when I first heard about it. Then when I heard about the Uncharted 2 beta I started looking into it, still very skeptical because I've hated every open world game I have played. I love this game. I don't know what it is but it is so much more fun than any other game in its genre.

I hate open world games also but this game doesn't feel like one. To me it feels like a huge action game first, open world etc second. Crackdown game me that feeling also.

Argh the Karma choices are killing me, I love the red glow, but I don't
wanna get tar in the dudes eyes
. I wanna be a prick, but I'm too much of a pussy to be one.

(Evil side spoiler)
I didn't want to mention my allies were Conduits because, obviously, you wouldn't guess that you would team up with any... but yeah, they're just as deadly as I am.
I think it's just that the enemies were programmed to focus on me 99% of the game and on the rare occasion that I receive an ally, it still prioritizes on killing me... with 99.9% accuracy.

As for everything else, yeah, when it comes down to it, none of those complaints really matter because they are smaller details but it'd have been nice to have them polished up a bit... after all, this game has been done for at least a month and all. :lol

Wow this is all I hoped it would be, and more. The comic book cut scenes are absolutely amazing, and so is the controls. I have never ran around a virtual city so fluidly.

I am not getting the follow the grey indicator on the outside of the map to find "Dead Drops" at all...what am I suppose to be looking for here???

How do you heal people? I see all these people laying on the floor all over the city, but when I try to heal them nothing happens. Do I have to buy the power?

I got the same problem an hour ago. Press it and look at the map you will notice Gray bars. If he get closer it will be in the center.

Exact same way I feel. But I don't hate open world games per sey, I just never can finish them for some reason.

I guess the story of Infamous appeals to me more personally than other open world games.

It isn't the arrow, hit L3 and look for a light gray inner circle in the mini map that fades out last in the direction of a drop.

The more I play the game the better it looks to me. It's like my eyes have become accustom to the aliasing and it's not nearly as distracting. I'm loving the city.

This is easily one of the best games I've played this gen.

I can totally understand that 1up staffer's comment that while this may not be the best PS3 game, it may end up being my favorite.

So far this could be my GOTY (single player) as of right now.

I am really fucking impressed with what Sucker Punch has created.

Just got the *spoil for first island ability*
precision shot ability, so awesome. :D

The abilities come at a perfect pace, so far at least. Constantly getting new toys if great.

Fun all around, which is what's important.

Just played the game for 3 hours straight, it's damn awesome. I didn't play the demo so it was brand new to me and I'm impressed with it's scope so far and how well the climbing works... very Assassin's Creed. The jumping up building feels right, unlike games like Crackdown where you're relying on pure power to leap, here you have to rely on finding mid paths up the buildings.

I really enjoy the moments where you're mobbed by about 5 or 6 bad guys, you see a mush of red on your radar and bullets whizzing by. I start trying to find cover but the bullets really hurt so my screen goes gray, there it goes into a mad dash leaping/dodging behind exploding cars and hot dog stands. At one point I started stringing together backflips, I swear I did like 10 backflips in a row down a street dodging missiles and bullets. Finally get into the alleyways and I'm looking up at the buildings trying finding the best one to climb, get up to a roof, half dead... duck behind the cover a bit and then burst out, jump off the side, and power slam the ground, start flinging them all up in the air and blasting them to bits. Love moments like that. :lol

The only problem I have with the game is the lip-syncing, the aliasing kind of struck me during the tutorial mission thing at the beginning but as soon as I was running over the rooftops and started focusing on what mattered it didn't stick out to me anymore.

Do Hero/Infamous powers are roughly equal in dmg? I'm starting my first run of the game, going straight thru hard and thinking of going Infamous because hey, blowing shit up is fun.

I went in to buy it this morning, but fucking video game prices are 80 dollars after the taxes in Canada.

Fuck that.

After one of you is done with it, contact me and I'll buy it from someone for 60. I really want this game, but I won't stand to get raped in the ass by this industry.

In short, hero powers are more single-target oriented, while infamous powers are more ae.
