inFAMOUS - The oFFicial Thread

I started playing this last night and fell in love with it. Definitely getting that Crackdown vibe... I borrowed it from a guy at work while he's out of town at E3... I have a short time to beat it. For the folks that have, what's the length of it?

Just a few shards and evil upgrades and I'm Platinum.

The final boss fight isn't that difficult on Hard, but inFamous Cole is definitely not as powerful as hero Cole. I prefer the concentrated power over the splash damage personally. But even the second time through, the ending is awesome.

Dark blue dots = shards. Blue lightning bolts = power sources

I disagree.

I found inFamous Cole to be more powerful than Hero. Overload charges up a single object/enemy, whereas Arc pretty much decimates everything in it's path after a second or two.

Plus, the Megawatt hammer + splash damage grenades... much more destructive.

As for the evil upgrades, I was a good 10000XP short of getting them maxed out prior to the final boss, so I went on the Street Fight mission... did all my best moves to rack up XP, then blew myself up w/ the gas station, which restarted the mission, with all the XP I just earned. :lol
It's cheap but fuck it - better than doing all the sidemissions again (which is probably why I was so short on XP).

Finished the story mode last night at about 4 AM. Overall, I really enjoyed the game, I thought the story was a little silly, but I really enjoyed the gameplay.

I guess the best endorsement I can give this game was that I played from about 4PM to 4AM yesterday. Then slept, woke up, and liberated all of the Neon District.

Looks like I found my new Crackdown.

Destructive yes, but less powerful. Strong enemies that should have been taken down by fully powered hammer or grenades somehow survive, when they definitely wouldn't have with hero Cole's versions. That's the point though. Wider, more destructive evil powers vs more concentrated and powerful good powers.

The power difference was pretty noticeable to me against the boss since he has a meter.

I actually played inFamous on Hard and Hero on Normal, so I figured that was the reason for the health going down slower.
Not too much slower, though. The Evil upgrades did an admirable job of taking care of the buffed enemies on Hard... which is why I said I disagree.

But yeah, you're right, now that I think about it. Hero = concentrated attacks, Infamous = splash damage, and naturally... concentrated attacks would do more damage.

Why did you do that to your avatar? :( I need some eye candy.

For those of you who have the game but did NOT get an Uncharted 2 beta code, I have an extra code from QORE that I would like to give away. BUT I don't want to make it too easy, so I'd rather have a contest for it. I just want to know how many people would be interested in playing before I go through with it.

Note: You must own the game to participate because it'll involve finding something in the game and taking a picture of it. :D

So yeah, let me know if you're interested. If I get a few people, I'll tell you what it is you have to find.

Edit: I also have a Gigawatt Blades code that I won't use, so the winner can choose between the Uncharted code or the Gigawatt Blades.

Hopefully tomorrow i will get my inFAMOUS :D
YAY for me!

so my karma meter or status hasn't budged at all, even though I only do good actions and it says I'm getting good karma. Within the regular blue meter, there's a white one that is crawling up, I'm assuming that this is current exp, and when it hits the arrow that indicates where you are exactly, that it jumps up?

Well shipping out the game today. This has been along with SFIV the only memorable gaming moments this year. As noted above the death/respawn is one of the best I have seen in any video game.

Shipping out already. Wow that some turn around.

The white level is your karma level. The arrow always points at the middle of the section, just showing your rank at a glance.

only one more shard to find and three more stunts to do

problem is that I have no clue where the last shard is and no enemies are throwing grenades at me

this might take a while

I'm so on the fence about this game still.

I mean, I'm enjoying myself going through the main story. The mechanics are tight and I feel very in control; overall that aspect is quite fun. I even like the sewers, which I thought would be the aspect I wouldn't enjoy. However, the "extra stuff" like side missions and collecting things... It's just not drawing me in at all. I don't like doing the "race" missions at all--and I can't bring myself to zapping another "surveillance device" or following another exploding dude.

Maybe I'll just ignore all of that and rush through the story ... Tell myself I'm saving it for my evil playthrough--which I inevitably won't get to because my attention span will be grabbed by some other shiny game.

What the fuck... game just froze as I was jumping on to the last poison balloon.

I better not lose the 5+ hours of progress since my last save.
>:(

So I just realized I've been playing on Hard the entire time. Don't know whether to bump it down or just continue playing. No wonder everyone takes so long to kill.

Should just lose whatever progress you made since the start of the mission. I've had it crash on me 2 times so far.

I think I screwed up!!

I need 12000 xp to get the last lightning bolt upgrade for achievement and already finished the game. Is there anyway to farm xp?

So you guys said leave the side missions til the end, so if I do the main quests of Island 1, then start side missions, will they all keep popping up? I thought they were triggered by finishing main quests. Also, will I be able to come back to Island 1 after I get to 2?

The grenade repelling stunt is difficult, along with the one that requires you to sticky an airborne enemy. It's much easier to do during the game itself, not Aftermath, since there are actual grenade launching enemies in the story mission and you can try over and over if need be.

My advice is to put the game on hard, and stand on a roof with one enemy (Neon District) and after a while of avoiding the guy, he'll toss a grenade.

Side missions are usually triggered by other side missions. And at one point you can go to all 3 islands freely, but not right away.

Phew. It put me back at the beginning of that long mission, but I can't complain too much.

At least I don't have to recollect the 50 or so blast shards I'd gotten since my last save.:lol

Where is the best place to do the unquenchable thirst stunt because I suck at transferring from rail to rail using static thrusters.

Did you do side missions? if so, you are screwed. Question though about leveling shit. Do I have to buy every single upgrade, or just the upgrades that have alignment? It would suck if it's the former.

There was a spot with intersecting lines with a track underneath near the drawbridge leading out of Neon District. A few opportunities there. You can go from line to line to track to line for example.

There's a trophy for each individually (all evil powers, and all good powers). Impossible to do in one playthrough

The story was so-so until the ending if only for how
it sets up the next game. They even potentially give you an idea of the powers you will gain, like that dash move.

Really great game. Probably my favorite Sony game this gen, except for maybe LBP, but both are awesome. If the end of the year wasn't so stacked, I would say this is GOTY already.

God that Nemesis Revealed mission was a pain in the ass.

But even still, I've died more times performing stunts and collecting shards.

No, I meant can I get the trophy if,say, I don't upgrade strength all the way, or the R2 shield?

Yeah I'm in the same boat. I started off needing 10000 more XP for that upgrade...now I just need 4000 more. It's taking a looong while. :lol

There's a short bridge that connects the second and third islands and I found that a group of 4-5 enemies respawn near the bridge on each island. I've just been going back and forth between the 2 islands, killing the enemies using sticky grenades and healing people along the way. I get about 100 XP per group of enemies. It's a pain in the butt, but it's the fasted method I've seen so far.

yeah, I'm probably gonna switch to to hard as I find my last blast shard.

I think the first island will probably be the best place since the enemies are fairly weak and should go down with a single grenade bounced back.

Once I find my last shard and finish stunts, I'll replay on hard as evil to get the rest. Finding that last shard is really hard.

are there any really odd locations they put one? or one that doesn't get picked up by your radar if you're on the ground?

train tracks. start on inner rail, then switch before you get to a curve, and then transfer mid-curve to the third rail, then to the forth. Super easy :D

Stuck on this mission, can anyone help?

Giant air balloon dumping gas on everyone. I destroyed the drone but I'm not sure how to disable the forcefield on it.

True Hero and/or Evil to the Core trophies? They require "Purchase every positive Karma upgrade for each power" and "Purchase every negative Karma upgrade for each power", so you need to upgrade them all to max.

They'll give you a hint if you keep screwing up, but
lightning storm!

Just realized I haven't used that power one time since the mission that made me use it. Thank you!

Played the demo and I found it fun, but not sure if I want to drop $60 on it. Do the buildings get a lot higher? Do you ever get to go in and through buildings like in Crackdown? I sort of got the Crackdown vibe of finding blast shards, and the building climbing was just as good, but it still felt lacking since you couldn't jump as high, and the buildings didn't seem very tall at all. Does this change? I want to experience the vertigo of being 50 floors up and looking down on ants way below me.

I'm still on the first island, I'm trying to get the trophy for
killing 25 enemies on a moving vehicle, which is proving annoying because Cole loves sliding off at the slightest change in momentum. I'm not even sure if it's working, the game hasn't indicated if it is.
This game could really do with a stats page (unless I'm missing where it is), especially given the number of trophies that involve killing X number of enemies, or travelling Y amount of distance.

So the XP earned by the missions alone in the game isn't enough to max out all of either your good or evil powers? I should have enough on my Medium playthrough, but I'll definitely farm XP on some of the crazier missions in the game by dying. There have been a few where it's easy to just spam shock grenades for 5-in-1 bonuses.

only have 2 gripes really with this game:

-in addition to pressing O to drop down from whatever you're hanging on, i'd like to have a HOLD O to continue to drop (so you dont grab anything as long as you hold O). kinda annoying if you're hanging at the top of a building, need to get midway down, but you grab on everything with each O press.

-i want realtime (at least within the game) day/night cycle. don't like how it's night until you reach a certain point, then it turns to day.

fucking FUN game.

I normally don't include sports games really in that end year tally, more of a side column. Both MLB 09 and NHL 09 are two of the best sports games I have played in years.

I do wish the game was a little bit longer though.

yay play.com emailed me my U2 beta code.

A couple of questions: After you leave the first island for the first time, can you return to it and complete sidemissions as usual?

Do conduit enemies appear anywhere else other than the 1st island?

Fucking excellent game, just got past the demo train mission after fucking about cleaning up the streets.

Yes. But it makes more sense and doesn't take much more time to 100% each island in order.

Yes.

I just finished the game...
O-o holy shit @ the last missions and level
Holy shit @ the ending
and Fuck yeah that
there a good lead-in to a sequel, I was wondering if it was possible for there to be another game : )
Time to collect more shards. I cleared the entire first island before I moved on, but then I got sucked into the story and just tore through it. I have allot of side missions left.

That trophy for
killing 25 enemies while riding a vehicle
should unlock itself during some very specific missions that you may have not played yet. Please tell me you aren't
standing on top of a random car driving on the street while shooting at enemies
trying to do it...
