inFAMOUS - The oFFicial Thread

Just to add to this, you CAN distinguish.

Highlight the save file. It should say:

- Chapter name and number
- Reputation (Hero, Champion, Thug, Infamous... you get the drill)
- Completion %
- Powers and Upgrades
- Districts
- Dead Drops
- Blast Shards
- Stunts

Infact, this is the MOST detailed save file I've ever seen in a game.

I'd still like to see full, GTA-style stats in this game. For instance, I have no clue how many people I've healed or how far I've grinded the train tracks.

This thread severely lacks any talk about the voice of survival.

I like the news reports but the voice of survival is an annoying douche bag. I haven't reached a point in the story that would explain why he's spouting propaganda against me.

I'm still in the beginning of the game, but to me he sounds like one of those loners that airs pirate broadcasts with his own little conspiracy theories.

I'm still dazed and confused about the very beginning of the game though...
There's massive electricity shooting out of your ass and all the cops do is stand there, WTF?

Game froze on me last night partway through the first mission on the third island. I hadn't saved in like six hours. This game REALLY needs autosaving.

I've not even been bothered by his voice. We dealt with Bales Batman and we can deal with this. You guys should voice him yourselves if you're that unhappy.

There was a patch but I don't know for which regions.

I fully agree. This is a very annoying oversight, especially since they're obviously tracking this stuff internally, so why not share it with us?!?

Anyway, I'm having trouble with the shoot a guy with lighting then thunder drop on him stunt. What's the best situation to get this one?

A few thoughts:

-Rockstar could learn a thing or two from this game when it comes to MID-MISSION CHECKPOINTS and INSTANT RETRIES.

-This game needs a true statistics list

-I find it weird that there isn't much creative use of Cole's Power. If an enemy is standing on metal or wire, and I zap it, why don't they die? Seems like a few missed opportunities.

-Love the comic book cutscenes.

From listening to Cole and Zeke talk, it's pretty obvious that Cole wasn't a good guy before the game started. Not a bad guy, just not that great of a person. That kind of adds to that feeling of having no personal reason (Trish sucks, Zeke sucks, City hates me) not to be evil that the game sets up pretty well.

This is one of the first moral games that I feel created just as compelling a reason for the evil side as it did for the good. There's a constant tug between the two sides, especially early in the game where you'll heal someone then get pelted by a stone and called a freak.

That was rather bad.
I just wanted them to scatter or something. Not just stand there for the thirty seconds it was happening.

What I did was run around the city until some reapers spawned, then climb the nearest building (high, but not ridiculously so) and then jump off, aim and shoot a reaper, and if sucessful, hold square and aim to land on or near that sucker.

You'll need a few tries, of course.

I think Infamous is rated T though, and given the entire game's comic book style and Sucker Punch's background I think they're expecting quite a few kids to play it. In that case, Cole's gravelly voice would come off as cooler than not to them. I think they also expect adult gamers to put aside the voice as an accidental factor and look at the deeper aspects of Infamous, but obviously there's quite a few adult babies.

I still think some of INfamous' controls are unnecessarily complicated... mapping one button to this or that doesn't always help. For example, electricity draining with L2 feels abit out of sorts for me even after a few hours in the demo, although you get habitualized. Oh well.

Got it yesterday and played the shit out of it last night. I was kind of on the fence (not a chainlink, lol) about getting it, and I'm glad I have it now. Excellent game so far.

My only problem is that I can't distinguish between 'side missions' and 'clearing the city of reapers missions'. I'm playing good, and there is a power that you unlock after playing 5 side missions. Well, it says I'm at 53% at clearing the enemies, but it's only showing that I've completed 2 side missions. I haven't gotten too far into the story missions (just got the grind ability), so maybe that's the problem?

Press 'Select' and look at the map. There are indications of side missions (they're yellow, if I remember correct).

Those powers are for karmic side missions, which there are 15 total of (5 per island). They appear as yellow icons on the map with either blue or red centers, but all won't be available immediately. All side missions (including the plain yellow icons) will clear the city of enemies.

Hunting for blast shards is gonna be REALLY frustrating when there are only one or two left, I can already tell. Much more frustrating than Dead Drops.

I hope they pull a page from Criterion's book and have a Save Analyzer that will show us what items we're missing. It was a great feature in Burnout Paradise when I was looking for the last Smash Gate in the entire game.

It's not nearly as hard to find shit in inFamous though because of the L3 function.
I found 'em all by myself, without a guide - it's possible. lol

Just make sure to check all the piers, and move block by block and you should have 'em all if you did it correctly.

They actually did add mid-mission checkpoints with the Lost and the Damned and I'm pretty sure you could always retry missions in GTA IV, but there are definitely some other things they could learn from this game. Especially responsive on foot and camera controls.

So what you're saying is to progress through the story and more of these karmic missions will appear?

Anyone have or know where I could get high resolution versions of these art pieces from Infamous?

I got a few from the EU PS Blog as well as some others from a GAF member, but I can't locate hi-res versions of the following three:

Yes, although I'm not sure if it completing side missions or story missions is what unlocks the karmic side missions. When they appear they will appear in pairs (one good one evil) and completing one locks out the other. Make sure that whatever you decide, you stay on that same path since you can't get that one power maxed out unless you complete either all 15 good, or all 15 evil.

I think the comic book cutscenes (and in fact the whole "motion comic" thing that has become something of a Thing lately) owes a lot to Jaffe, who did a LOT with that style in his Twisted Metal games AND in God of War 1's prerendered cutscenes. I'm not saying he was the first to do it or anything, but he's done it really well and pushed it as a good way to show story - a nice stylized alternative to many other FMVs.

Yeah, I have to say I feel like that's an oversight. Doing 10 of one and 5 of the other could be an interesting and valid choice, though. The fact that if you do anything not a multiple of 5 you get screwed over feels like a mistake, to me, but I'm not sure how fixable that is.

They were also in GTA: Chinatown Wars, though most of the missions were short enough (and easy enough) that I only really noticed it during a few of the last missions.

GTAIV doesn't really do them the same. You get booted from the mission, go to the phone and warp to where you pick up the mission, and then start it over again. Really sucks. I don't remember how TLAD did it, but it does have checkpoints.

No, the way GTA handles mission fails is utter shit and is the main reason I can't play them more than 30% without wanting to kill someone. You have to start at the beginning, always.

My first mission fail in inFamous was one of the stealth follow missions. I got to the point where the guy was setting the package down and he somehow say me and I failed. For a split second I was absolutely furious thinking I'd have to do the whole tedious thing again (not a fan of the follow side missions) but the game started me out like 2 seconds from the end of the mission.

So awesome.

I'm doing one that's right by the train tracks. How do I get him to not notice me? i'm just grinding back and forth on the rails above him.

Don't be so loud. Hide behind walls and swing your camera around if you can't view from above.

Use cover. Circle button is your friend. Hide behind cars or objects.

After going through the good side story, and now playing evil and going for 100%, one thing that shows cracks are the side missions. Granted they shouldn't be the same caliber of story missions, but they get soooo lame and utterly pointless.

For example one mission has you
kill Reapers that have pedestrians hostage, you can kill every one of the pedestrians you are trying to "save" from the Reapers, just as long as you kill the Reapers too, you get credit for the mission
. They feel tacked on, only to give longer life to the game.

To balance out all the graphical complaints :p, does anyone else think the textures in this game are fantastic? I'm surprised at how good most of them are for a game of this scale.

Yes absolutely. Which is why when someone complained about the textures earlier here I had to call him out on it. I can see that there are some graphical issues such as aliasing and LOD popup but the textures are amazing.

Okay, I'll try this. Thanks guys.

BTW Cole looks so cool when he's grinding on rails. The train mission was rad.

Someone on the new Rebel FM podcast complained about the textures and I was pretty surprised. I think the textures look pretty good, though I don't have an acute eye for that stuff.

Well shipping out the game today. This has been along with SFIV the only memorable gaming moments this year. As noted above the death/respawn is one of the best I have seen in any video game.

I would recommend it, the more I use them the more I love them:D a lot of people seem kinda down on them, but the slow-mo kill you get when you one shot someone with them never gets old to me.
I think they are pretty cool myself. Though I hit a bug with them once, and actually it was really sweet.

I was using them trying to take down a Conduit and a bunch of Reapers, the game went into slow-mo and stayed there.
It was actually really sweet being able to jump in the air and headshot some reapers before landing. Also jumping from high places seemed cooler in slow-mo as well. It makes me wish there was a power you could obtain that would temporarily make things slow-mo.

Things were also in a kind of black and white and I couldn't progress with my mission so I had to kill myself to get it to quit. I jumped into the ocean but it didn't kill me. It just made my DualShock spaz out and I floated on the water. Had to reset, but it was fun while it lasted.

I know you're still playing MLB09 so punch yourself in the nuts for that comment.
