inFAMOUS - The oFFicial Thread

I'm sorry if this has been asked before but I just had a question regarding XP:

Will I be able to buy all of the upgrades by just completing the story and side missions or will I have to "grind"?
I have almost everything (i can buy right now) and i'm +/- 70% in the game, right before the 3rd island.

So no need to grind.

fucking evil powers look SO much cooler than Hero ones. all the particle effects, FUCK. one of the craziest games on PS3!
I like the Shockwave and the Megawatt hammer of Hero better.
Nothing like homing missiles that send guys flying in the air like they are slowly swimming and same thing with the shockwave.

The lightning bolt of evil is cooler but I like my chain headshot lightning and energy replenishing.

Shock Grenade of evil are cooler but it split up to far when throwing it from a high vantage point.

That's only a little over two thousand people you have to heal. Start movin'!

Actually I think there are still some areas where enemies respawn at even if you cleared all the areas. No matter how you look at it though, you've got a long grind ahead of you. :(

That sucks. I'm on the third island with a ton of missions and have about 10889xp so I plan on buying that 12000xp power. :D

People that are struggling to get all of the updates, don't forget that you don't need to buy those that are 'neutral' (i.e. Identical for both good/evil). I have the True Karma trophy and there's at least one power I haven't fully upgraded - the Thunder Drop one I think.

I didn't need to grind at all for those, but I did religiously heal people as I ran through the city streets.

An absolutely fucking amazing game from start to finish, and a surprisingly gripping storyline for a game. Can't wait to see what changes there are in the evil playthrough, which I'm going to do now on hard to get the Platinum trophy.

Sacred 2 is due today though, which might scupper my plans.

Saw the ending last night (I've been sick and thus I've watched my roommate surpass me and finish the game) and I was really impressed. I liked what they did with the main villain, although another friend of mine think it's just all around stupid. I know the game is full of plotholes, but I think it made the story far more interesting in the end.

What's the general consensus in the thread, do people like the ending?

Also, glad to see the thread is so gigantic, seems the game is doing really well and I expect to see some surprising sales numbers for this game.

Oh, and Sucker Punch, please give us the conduit teleport move for the sequel. And an option to play as lightning-infused Sly. Thanks!

How can I do the "Hard" trophy without changeing the difficulty? The game starts on normal, so I have to change the difficulty to hard.

Or doesn't it count during the tutorial? Any help would be appreciated!

It changes on it's own if you do well during the first mission.
That's what they mean.

Alternatively, you can change the difficulty to Hard, start a New Game, and it'll default to Hard.

I never got the option to switch. So, I loaded my end game, switched to hard and then started a new game. I think that's the best way to do it.

Are there shards that you can miss through the story progression and never be able to grab later on? I'm missing 2 and I used a map...and somehow overlooked 2 shards. I know there's one in the beginning but I dont think it's avoidable

wait, so if you start a new game and change the setting before you start moving in the crater it's already too late? I'm past the first island already in this run...

Nope you can go back and find all the shards.

The last super power seems to be my only defense against the 3d island's enemies.

I think for the next inFamous game Cole should get additional powers, such as teleportation like zero shift.

Awesome game. Only picked it up yesterday (stupid Australian release date wtf) and I had my grandparents visiting so im still on the first island. Unbelievably fun, amazing lighting and effects, performs exceptional and has only a few niggles that I can point out. So much fun, playing this game gets me excited like a little kid again its so awesome!

I think you're fine. The game should count it as hard. The crater area is early on enough that it shouldn't count against you. I loaded my old game just to be safe.

The people who got the prompt for hard mode probably didn't die a lot their first playthrough.

Just got my Platinum in this game. :D So worth it, personally I found it to be one of the best PS3 games in a looong time, was never bored with it.

I've yet to finish the game but I think they should have different main character and different powers altogether. I know they probably won't though.

Just got to the last island. 62% complete now.

The 2 last missions in 2nd island were epic.

I really regret continuing playing the game on Hard, never have I played a sandbox game where I felt weaker as the game progressed instead of more powerful. The start of the second island I regularly and often get my ass handed to me, I feel pretty powerless and have to go a LOT slower to try and survive in order to complete some of the objectives.
It's making finishing this game really difficult, I'm finding it hard to stay interested since I'm dying so often.

How'd you manage to beat the game 2x already? :lol

I've been playing for at least 2-3 hours each night since the day it was released 5/26 and I JUST made it to the 3rd island last night. I've been doing all of the side missions, Evil missions, as well as the dead drops and shard collecting.

One thing about this game that impresses me is the fact that its sheen hasn't worn off in the face of E3. :D I mean, when E3 occurs, I can't deny that it takes something out of the games I may have been playing at the time. inFamous still feels fresh and incredible even amidst the E3 hype. I really feel like this might just be my favorite sandbox game of all time. They've solved so many problems I've had with games of this type. I'm constantly surprised and impressed by it. Absolutely brilliant game.

To think that I was not interested in this title up until recently. Just didn't look appealing.

Hard is basically Normal with less XP. The only problem I had was the last boss, but was nothing compared to Radec on Elite. Use the rooftops more and Shockwave helps to give you some breathing room.

I would love if he started developing powers in other elements.
Future Cole had wind based powers, so it would fit with the story.

It could work great from a gameplay standpoint as well. Make it like Devil May Cry 3's styles that can change with the touch of a button.

Dude, I thought I was late seeing as 105081356 mofos already got their Platinums in this topic. :D It's easy when you have a lot of dead time during mornings when it's an exam week.

Infamous is now my favorite PS3 singleplayer game along with Uncharted, it's brilliant, I love the controls, gameplay, music, presentation, atmosphere, pacing, texture work... yeah it has GFX shortcomings, but a sandbox game of this caliber it's the first PS3 effort of S.Punch, and the PS3 is <512 RAM total so I didn't expect a miracle, it looks better than you made me believe it looked too, fantastic game, if you're in doubt try the demo or something. Repeat: it's brilliant.

Are we playing a different game? The only difference I noticed on hard was less EXP.

Use rooftops, cover and stuff like shockwave to knock dudes off rooftops quickly also use the shield, it actually helps a lot.

Agreed, especially on the texture work. I'm fucking amazed at how good the textures are for an open-world game. Easily outclasses other more closed games.

Rawr.

Man, the last 5 shards are absolutely KILLING me...

Also: I didn't set the game to "Hard" until I had got around to the 1st mission...too late? I could restart seeing as how I'm only two hours in, or so. Anyone know where the cut off for "Hard Mode" is?

Just loving the game! Getting around town is enough fun by itself. The quests are really well done and I don't even mind doing repeats as nothing has gotten old yet. This is a sandbox game that's just on another level.

It really does feel like a great comic book super hero story. I'm playing good so when I enter a new area and see some people lying around hurt I always go to their aid. I may be climbing a building but if I missed a guy down below I get down and heal him. In 95% of games I play a mechanic like this would have become tedious but strangly in Infamous it hasn't. I actually find myself happy to do it.

I've really taken on the mantle of hero. I can heal people and I think it's my priveledge to do so. Really bizarre but the game has captured this spirit so beautifully.

I've noticed this. I can't believe I never figured to use the shield on the golems before but it makes them so easy. I've also been focusing on taking over the territory, so that there's less random guys spawning.

I just finished the mission where
you save Zeke from the place surrounded by crates and I missed a few shards will I be able to go back in again now that I finished the mission?

Just started my hard play through and noticed in the beginning of the game
there was another survivor at the blast site. Could it have been the beast?

It's pretty much given that it's Kessler.

Does gaf have an official count of how many blast shards are on each island?

I got 146 in Neon, but I just read somewhere that there were supposed to be 150.

I'd die if I missed 4 because I searched the city through and through, plus I'm at the next island already.

Any help?

These numbers I posted a while ago are 100% correct, I verified them during my second run through the game. There is one shard on island 1 you can only get with the gliding ability you gain on the second island, so don't sweat it.

God damn
crab
things.

I wish it told you how many hours you've put in. I'm not 50% complete yet but I've put in a fair few hours. Trying to find all the Shards is fun.

And I so want to be evil

You join the second island and now the dust men typically take 2 grenades to kill yet I still die as easy as always even with maxed out damage reduction.
I haven't gotten any 'shield' yet.

Where? It's the one I'm missing so far (still on second island).

on the eastern coast, there are pillars sticking up out of the water past a broken pier. you can't ping the shard from land.
