inFAMOUS - The oFFicial Thread

Oh please, you were on his case long before that, nor is that what really bothers you. You just can't deal with the game being slammed for issues that are major issues to some players, such as TTP and to a lesser degree myself. If it wasn't clear before, it's made blatantly obvious by your "rain on the parade" comment. Just be happy that the issues don't bother you, and stick with that.

Yes your right I was, but only to prove a point, that has been done now so I'll leave it alone.

I can deal with pop-in and aliasing but how bad is the framerate? I haven't been following the demo or official thread.

Is it Mass Effect-bad or worse?

It's really not bad at all. I noticed a few brief drops into the 20s but most of the time it was smooth. It even jumps up to 60 when there is not much going on. The pop-in is also very minor. Aliasing is noticeable but not distracting.

Never gets that bad. It's more a fluctuating issue. It's definitely smoother than GTAIV. basically it's 30fps with frequent but rapid hiccups.

Thanks to gaf generosity for the demo! Honestly, I'm not into it. I was hoping for something different. It's beautiful (I think) despite some light technical details, but the enemies and the world are just lacking charisma. I was bored playing it despite all the tools they give you. That's the kiss of death to me when trying a game.

What I'm most bummed about is the Uncharted Beta. I know I want that game, but I won't pay $60 for a beta code. I hope they give more avenues for it, or I'll just have to go in fresh.

I just woke up, what happened? Did TTP say something again?
I'm just kidding ;)

Basically if you were ok with the demo visuals your fine, if you had issues don't expect changes. That works. :D

I played the game in ITALIAN! The french language is just the one used by default as you start up the game on a PS3 set to English. That's why I mentioned it. I stated in a follow up post I hate localization in general, not French language.

You stupid Ricky Martin French lover

So why did you ears bleed exactly? Bad sound? Too many explosions?

Or it's because of the Italian VA. Would make sense. :p

The out-of-bounds thing hasnt happened to me yet, but thats probably because when i start a mission, i start it with the intention of actually doing it. If I just wanna fuck around, you can always choose "abandon mission" and then go do your own thing. Or not start the mission at all (you can move your cursor over the mission checkpoint in the map and it will tell you the name of the mission, as well as whether its a story mission, a side mission, or a good/evil mission.)

Also, there are some missions which are time based... think of them as races. You need to be at a certain place by a certain time, and you need to make the best use of your environment to do that.

Also, this is why I didnt say much about graphics in my initial impressions... I said i'm not a graphics whore like TTP, so i'll let him judge the graphics. All I know is, they look good to me, and I havent had any eye-strain at all playing the game. :lol :lol

I lied. I've had eye-strain,
but thats from playing the game non-stop for 6+ hours on multiple occasions :lol

Maybe you should try playing the demo on NORMAL or HARD difficulty?

It starts you off on EASY, so I understand getting bored if all you do is wipe away the enemies.

I hate how they have super vision though. But it wasn't quite as bad as some people mentioned earlier. Honestly, it wasn't the difficulty, it's just a pretty dead feeling world even though there are people around. It's a survival zone, but it was dead in a gamey way. I didn't click with Crackdown either and this looks a hell of a lot better so maybe it's just me. Even the climbing felt a little automated and rote.

I don't know, I could fold anyway, I like playing along with gaf and this was my planned summer game sorta.

Bitch bitch bitch bitch bitch.

This game is fun, why do people have to constantly nitpick? Grr.

this is a problem with all open world games, though. maybe you just don't like them?

the concern isn't necessarily with the city itself, but with the objectives and gameplay and using your super powers.

If you don't like the game or don't care for some of the aspects of the game, I have no problem with that. Different people like different games. My post was aimed more towards the pixel counters. That shit's getting really old.

Oh, sorry, agreed.

I'm going to play around more and see if the demo allows some cooler random stuff. It is just a demo after all.

Because of this language crap, I'm not gonna do any videos for Gamersyde. No English, no video.

But, Gamersyde is a french website, they'll do some subtitles, don't hesitate to make videos, at least it can prevent some spoilers :lol

Oh, and fuck the TTP hater, it's nice to have some objective people, it's better than blind fanboyism. Personnaly it didn't prevent me from enjoying the demo, you can love a game while being aware of its "flaws", grow up guys, enjoy games for what they are, not for shitty hype or fanboy pride or whatever.

I really didn't notice any sound compression or graphical hiccups when I played the demo, but I really wasn't looking for them, so I dunno.

I thought it ran very well for an open-world sandbox game.

I play the demo everyday and find new way to entertain myself! I am really looking forward to this game. I think Sucker Punch nailed the controls so I don't mind the few graphical flaws. Hell the framerate is much better than GTA 4.

I'm going to defend TTP on this one. The graphics are so-so, the controls weird (but manageable) and the voice acting pretty crappy. I've just played about an hour or so, but the game feels okay and is so far a 6-7/10 for me.

Wow I guess I am late to the party what happened? I haven't seen this much TTP hate since the GT5 Prologue thread.

It's such a wut comment that I don't even feel like finding out more about it, nor do I feel like ever reading what the dude has to say about any game ever again. Crazy stuff.

To be fair, they are tracking a dude who at times looks like a vicious Christmas tree.

Weird controls? Now I've read it all.

I agree, this game controls fantastic. Maybe it's because I have played the demo a ton, but I can pretty much make Cole do anything feasible.

This game nailed the controls, and that is saying a lot for a Sandbox game.

Lol, same here!

The controls are amazing. It feels so good and intuitive to climb and jump and glide and grind and everything else.

The framerate in the demo is disappointing though. And this is one of those games that can get up to 60 FPS when you're in the right area, like standing on the docks. You look across the water and move the camera and it's butter smooth, then you turn around to face the buildings and it starts chopping. Nothing that effects the gameplay or experience, but also not a treat for the eyes.

Makes you wish that Sony would release PC versions of its games, doesn't it? The visuals are very high quality in some ways (textures and models are generally very good, as are lighting and effects), but everything feels sort of compromised by the rough edges. Oh well.

"this person has a different opinion than me so I'm going to proclaim them crazy and make a mental note to loudly talk about how I'm never going to pay attention to anything they say ever again" IE: Ostracize and insulate.

The amount of crap TTP is getting is... predictable?

Sheesh guys.

I dont care about the graphics nitpicking, thats what TTP does for every game, and we love him for it. But when someone says the controls arent great, then that about does it for me. The controls are EXTREMELY well thought out. Even when you are using your higher upgraded powers, as well as powers locked in the demo, the button sequences make it feel natural and its a piece of cake to learn as well as execute.

The only times I have issues with controls are when I am trying to jump on to the structures overhead the train tracks. I miss landing and holding on them from time to time, but mostly its because I wasnt in the right position. I havent really felt like my mistakes are because the game or its controls are broken, i generally feel that I made an error, not the game.

Games with graphical glitches dont bother me at all as long as they are above a certain threshold (which inFAMOUS easily clears) as much as games with broken gameplay. And when it comes to controls and responsiveness, inFAMOUS absolutely shines.

Sheesh guys.

People get crap when they say wild shit. Saying Sucker Punch forgot how to do "basic visuals" is wild shit in my book.

There are heavy aliasing issues and some minor framerate issues. The game looks good for what it does, but it's not amazing. This still doesn't change the facht that this is an amazing game. That's what we should talk about from now on.

new day, same shit

I think I'm bored of GAF. =o

I thought the same exact thing.

omg how did I miss the last pages of this thread? (too much MGO / R2 / KZ2)

I must defend TTP on this one, we can't let developers get away with poor gfx/sound efforts in 400$ hardware. I'll be buying the game (UK) since it's a lot of fun but I fully understand and support TTP, all these years I've been saying that framerate drops, aliasing and pop-in break and destroy the illusion of being "there" in some games.

WUT IN THE FUCKING FUCK IS THIS SHIT

so according to your complete and utter nonsense crap , it's A ok for Wii and Xbox360 games to have framedrops and graphics and performance problems since they are cheap systems but it's no no for PS3 games because the system is $400 ...

this is new low for GAF

This has probably been mentioned, but I couldn't pre-order in a Canadian EB yesterday. I made my intentions known and the guy was nice enough to give me a code anyway when I had my wallet out ready to pre-order and he couldn't access it in the system. It's either give the code away or throw them all in the garbage (or sell them on the side).

divas? new lows? what? you guys are insane! :lol

I said poor efforts in some aspects like polishing the GFX engine and provide every language track. I didn't call Infamous a poor effort since the game as a whole is quite good, you guys are too crazy, I won't bother replying to you like TTP did, I don't have that patience.

Were people expecting more from the gfx cos the game's not 3rd party? I'll admit I wasn't wowed by the gfx either - but that ain't gonna stop me getting, playing and enjoying this (the last one I'm hoping for of course).

I absolutely don't give a fuck on other people opinions , it's your and their opinions ..you can say whatever you want , the game sucks , KZ2 graphics is N64 level , Gears boring , whatever you want , it's your own opinion you know .

but ...

sorry but saying this is not allowed just because the system is $400 dollars is just pure trolling and bullshit .

For a small minority of the hardcore gaming community yes, this may be true, but outside of this forum the overwhelming majority of people that buy this game won't even know what aliasing is, or even notice the frame-rate drops, I have friends that are classed as the 'average gamer', don't post on forums etc and tend to buy games based on cover art, synopsis, and familiarity, even trying to explain slow frame-rate to them is a chore, they play games like GTAIV on the PS3 and to them everything is fine. The main complaints I hear from 'regular' gamers are about glitches, like clipping for example, this is understandable and I think that does break the illusion of the in-game environment, these are the only complaints I ever seem to hear though, I never hear "man this game has lots of jaggies" or "the frame rate is really slow on this game", never, not unless it's from a fellow gaming nerd.

So my point is that the development team is on a limited budget and schedule, why are you going to spend hundreds of thousands of dollars on extra development time on tweaking the engine to please that 0.05% of hardcore gamers?, I really don't see the point, yes in an ideal world it would be nice if all games ran at 60fps with 4xaa @ 1080p or whatever, but for a game like this it's just not worth it, you'd just be throwing money down the drain.
