Innovation is dead... so let's talk about next-gen remakes!

We all love the feeling of having a new IP being announced and looks amazing, and it seems like an instant classic from the very first trailer. However, it seems that that feeling is going to be way less common next gen. Suits want to keep milking old games and it's inevitable we will get many more.

With that said, what are your hopes and wishes for games to be remade next generation? I am talking about remakes, NOT remasters.

I want:
- God of War I, II and III: The same games but with GOW: Ragnarok graphics or better. However, it would be awesome if they rework some bosses with better tech to make them more epic. (Kind of like how FF VII Remake is something completely different from original, but just for the bosses). This would be a AAA remake so I think it would be very unlikely.

- The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time: How many videos of OOT being remade with Unreal engine do we have to watch for Nintendo to remake this game? It doesn't have to be with ultra realistic graphics at all, but it would be great to have the entire game redesigned to make the world more like BOTW (much smaller, but still much bigger than OOT). Another one very unlikely.

- Heavenly Sword: Another one extremely unlikely. Sony needs to give this franchise another chance. Had it released in 2009 after the PS3 got popular (and cheaper), this game would've been a success. But it launched right when everyone was hating on the PS3 for the price and the motion controls thanks to LAIR (which was very OK, but people wanted to hate! and it's the reason we don't have motion aiming as standard in every game)

- Killzone 2: Another PS3 epic game that deserves a remake. Why is Guerrilla Games remastering a PS4 game, when they have a gem buried? Well, I know why, but it's unacceptable that this is a game perfect to be remade. The only worrying thing, is that developers don't give a damn about any physics engine anymore, it's all about graphics, with zero physics in most games, and this one is a showcase fro great ballistic physics and destructive environments.

- MGS4: MGS 3 is being remade, why? Of course because it's the most popular, but MGS4 would be fantastic. It's the only one stuck on PS3 (although it's probably coming with the Collection Part 2), and it would look great with modern graphics, and even with MGS V gameplay. Although this one would be tricky without Kojima.

To be honest, many of my remake dreams are from the PS3. The PS3 had so many great games, and many of them are just lost to that era, and would be awesome to bring them back. I would add Motorstorm, Folklore, Warhawk, even LAIR.

So what remakes would you want in next-gen (I'm considering Switch 2 next-gen). They are inevitable, so at least let's talk about what games would be great ideas and/or how likely. Hopefully next-gen brings some new IPs too.

A remake port of Horizon Call of the Mountain for PC will be neat

They should start doing remakes of all games every year.

Oni was a great idea with great characters, a compelling story, and an inventive combat system.
But the technology of the day was not sufficient to bring the design to life with reasonable quality and playability.
There are no such limitations now. This is a remake that needs to happen.

There's no way Sony wouldn't heavily censor the old GOWs, so I say leave them alone, II is one of the best looking PS2 games anyway.

I would however like to see a remake of Uncharted 1, it's the most dated looking of the games, a remade and reworked version, bringing back some idea that were cut like exploring parts of the city underwater would be cool and the game's content is such it could be updated while being mostly unmolested.

  • Days Gone Remastered (already leaked) and Bloodborne Remastered but with the same borderline remake-like graphics overhaul as the Horizon: Zero Dawn remaster.
  • God of War trilogy remake, developed by Bluepoint, to release next year as part of the 20th anniversary celebration of the God of War series.
  • A quick, externally developed, Twisted Metal 2012 remake to coincide with the release of the show's second season, now that the live-service Twisted Metal project was shelved.
  • 1:1 remakes of the four home console Arkham games in Unreal Engine 5 over the next several years, in a similar fashion as to Capcom's release schedule of Resident Evil remakes over the past five years.

Sad that innovation is out the window due in large part to the whole ‘made for modern audiences’ shite that devs peddle. It’s just an excuse for them to inject their radical woke ideologies into todays games. Any good games of years gone would not be an option for todays devs as they don’t push ‘the message’ and aren’t filled with radical feminist or trans characters which are so prevalent in todays trash they put out. The games of yesterday are special and revered by many of us gamers. To remake and drastically change them today with modern woke poison would be a disgrace to those games and the fan bases who love them.

I'm sorry Moriarty but this is a terrible post in relevance to the topic, or hell maybe just in general.

I like how Vanillaware does things they mostly work on new IPs and tackling different genres, they also re-release old games with significant improvements to the gameplay.

I hope they find way bring these games to modern systems.

I wish, i could only wish <3
Meanwhile i will replay this game again in fan translation : ))

I‘m fairly certain that God of War is being worked on will probably be released next year. Can‘t wait, love the classic ones and hate that I have to plug in the PS3 every time I want to play them.

That said, my top wish for Remake still is and always will be Dino Crisis. I‘d also like to see Capcom upgrade CV and Zero.

I''ve said this many times, but something like Uncharted Golden Abyss would be a justified remake, proper Uncharted 4 treatment. It's stuck on the Vita with motion controls. Re-work it, most the works, voice acting, plot. All done. Young Drake games would be a good way to release some new Uncharted titles.

But it does feel like some publishers are taking the piss with some remakes or remasters. I'm looking at you Nintendo and Last of us.

I've been dying for OOT remake ever since REmake. Practically my most anticipated game. It took so long and I played the original so many times I kinda let it go and it won't be as megaton when it does drop, but I have a feeling Nintendo is cooking.

They are out of other Zelda games to remake, yet it's too early for the next full on original Zelda game. I think it's the best title possible to get a Very Big Deal Zelda onto Switch 2 launch, without the entire new game they can still drop a few years in.

The alternative would be to pull something like rewrapping Totk with higher settings and putting it in a box but I think they're too smart for that low hanging Horizon type shit for the launch game. Especially when so many Switch customers already own it.

A Skyrim remake where everything is at 1:1 scale with their canon counterpart. That is, within the canon of The Elder Scrolls, Skyrim isn't a province you can walk across in under an hour, or where cities contain fewer than fifty inhabitants. Skyrim's in-game cities are just scaled down representations of the actual cities of canon, adapted to fit the limited hardware and development manpower Bethesda had access to. They could remake Skyrim, but with each city scaled to fit thousands, tens of thousands, hundreds of thousands, while still giving each NPC a name, home, relationships and dynamic routine, and still giving every building an interior. My god, that would require an astronomically large dev team, and probably hundreds of writers. Well, I'm happy to give Bethesda ideas for their next Skyrim re-release.

I'd love Kingdom Hearts remakes with visuals that match their pre-rendered cutscenes. When they eventually do that, they should also finally remake 358/2 Days and re:coded.

If anything Sony should unlock the frame rate in Driveclub, and use PSSR to upscale the resolution to 4k. No need to remaster anything in such case. We need more simcade(ish) racers this gen!

All will be forgiven if they just remake Burnout 3

Burnout Takedown and Revenge Remake in the same vein as the Tony Hawk 1 + 2 Remake.

  • All the tracks.
  • All the cars.
  • Traffic Checking closer to Paradise (Revenge was too extreme and Takedown was too light).
  • Takedown Burnout rules.
  • Burnout Chains for special cars.
  • Bring back Stryker.

A re-release with minimal work would be fine, just to make it playable on modern consoles.

Bloodborne / Dark Souls 3
Again, a re-release with minimal work would be fine for me, it's just to increase the active player base.

Well made remakes and remasters are great imo.

I personally wished for Killzone 1-3 remakes and Resistance trilogy remade because I never got the play the latter and they seem awesome.
Playstion is seriously lacking in fps department.

MGS1 remake would be a double edge sword because I don't think it can be made without Kojima.

When i think about creatively dead and soulless..

I think about fan projects that remake small snippets of nintendo games in unreal 5 with zero fucking clue about art direction

Silent Hill 1. I know it's easy to emulate these days, but I would absolutely love a remake of that.

The Darkness 1&2 would be welcomed with open arms, especially considering 1 wasn't on PC.

Condemned 1&2 would be nice and like above, 2 wasn't on PC.

A sequel / new game in both of those worlds would be great, too.

Wonder what games like Dizzy (Spectrum / Amiga) and Wiz N Liz (Mega Drive) would be like today. Lots of nostalgia for those 2 series, and they were 2 rare games my parents even played.

I like games to be remastered or remade, especially when they are either not possible to play (due to porting, but emulation can help with that I suppose) or just take a lot of effort to get it up and running.
I'm not a fan of a game being remastered or remade that is only a couple of years old. Always feels like low effort greed.

I wish we could get more faithful ports. Demon's Souls will always be my best example of this. Oh how I would love just a straight PC port of the original From version. I don't even care if it doesn't have graphic options. Just let me play it at native 4k with final patches and I'm happy. Silent Hill 2 is another one. Bloober did a good job, but I still prefer the emulated version with community patches. The one studio that seems to get Remakes oh so right is Capcom.

However, if I had to pick some to remake, it would be Brothers in Arms series and Medal of Honor Allied Assault. Maybe even Call of Duty 1.

I'd love a Skyrim remake. All they'd have to do, is finally after all these years, actually make it bug free and stable. New engine is all I'd want. I know it'll never happen. But imagine it re-done in Decima. Or Snowdrop or Anvil. In fact, fuck it. Anything as long its not the current clunky PoS Creation they refuse to let go of.

I don’t know that you can blame the suits for everything. There is demand for these old games to be playable on modern consoles. It may say more about the inability of current developers to make something compelling than anything else. It’s all safe. I don’t think the business bros are entirely at fault.

P.S. You’re not off the hook, business bros. You still kill art.

I already have every remake I could ever want. It's called PCSX2, Duckstation, Dolphin, and Retroarch - and there's no 'modern audience' crap. This desire for 'remakes' is unbelievably stupid. If you want to play an old game, you can - right now.

I'd love to see remakes/reboots for:
  • Tenchu
  • SSX Tricky
  • Otogi 1 and 2
  • Okami
  • Need For Speed Underground
  • Gundam Musou
  • Fist of the North Star musou
  • Berserk musou
  • Xenosaga series
  • Xenogears
  • Chrono Trigger (no pixel art)
  • Pokemon Red, Blue Green (multiplatform)
  • Siren
  • Condemned 1 and 2
  • Bayonetta reboot (multiplatform)
  • God Hand
  • Shadow of Mordor (reboot)
This should do 😅

Oh and I forgot: I want Prey (2017) remaster or at least 60 fps patch for ps5.

I know it's not the answer you're looking for, but it's definitely one of the games that shines real bright with the Xbox BC. 1440p/60FPS on a Cry Engine game.
