Insider Gaming: Nintendo is Reportedly Partnering With Samsung to Make Switch 2 OLED Consoles and Processors

Feature-Image-1-2-1536x864.jpg

According to Bloomberg: "Nintendo Co. has turned to Samsung Electronics Co. to help make the main chips for the Switch 2, a move that may help the Japanese company ramp up production of the gaming console enough to sell a higher-than-projected 20 million units by March 2026."

Samsung has a proven and long-standing track record of making electronic devices. The report goes on to say: "The Korean company has also pushed for OLED panels to be used when Nintendo refreshes the Switch 2 in future, another person said.

I'd probably upgrade to the OLED this time around if they make one, especially if it gets the same battery life increase compared to the original as the Switch (1) OLED got.

I'll upgrade to an OLED version the minute it's available

The switch 2 should've launched with OLED considering the price. Nintendo just loves screwing there consumers over.
The one criticism the Switch 2 can't get is that of being overpriced, given the costs, it is loaded with the kind of tech you would expect or hope for

There are a couple of weeks left until the launch and they're already talking about an OLED screen for the revision, a screen that the Switch 2, which comes out on June 5, should already have.

Are Samsungs 120fps OLED panels cheaper than 120 LCD panels? Doubt it since Nintendo would have gone for OLED from the get go if so.

An OLED model down the road is the least surprising thing. I wonder how much it would cost and what other benefits it'll come with including dock improvements. I'm sure the S2 is going to be great but I get a gut feeling the OLED model might be worth holding out for.

Didn't Switch 1 OLED spring up due to Samsung having an abundance of OLED screens that they were looking to get rid of for cheap? That may just be in my head but I seem to remember this rumor.

Anyway, doesn't surprise me that they would partner back up with Samsung this time around. It worked out well with Switch 1. That said, if I was making up a Switch OLED rumor it would include the name Samsung that's for sure.

The headline is highly disingenuous.

The article says that Nintendo is working with Samsung to make processors and Samsung wants them to buy OLEDs too. Not that Nintendo is partnering with Samsung for processors and OLED screens. There is a huge difference and OP should change the title.

You clearly have no understanding of what it costs to make the S2.

I know the tech in it produces upscaled 1080p in the year 2025 which is pathetic. I know that it'll struggle to hit 60fps on any game that dosen't look like a ps4 game which on a big TV is going to look horrific. I know that it's launching without VRR in docked mode cause nintendo cheapened out once again like they always do on the tech. The switch 2 tech wise dosen't impress me at all and i have a 4k tv that does 120fps that it will never take advantage of because the tech in it is junk. Ps4 looking nintendo games in the year 2025 dosen't impress me sorry. My standards are higher for a company that raised the price of its games to 80 dollars and want to nickle and dime there consumers over everything.

If Switch 2 is not impressive or interesting, why are you in this thread?

I remember reading that too, but Nintendo confirmed that their margin is much lower on the OLED that the regular Switch so I'm not sure how much truth there is to it considering OLED always sold for more.

450 dollars and 80 dollars for there games. They're going to make a killing off of this machine and nintendo could've taken the hit and put an OLED screen in this thing at launch. They're choosing not to because they wanna scam people into upgrading to an OLED model later. It's just the truth.

They couldn't. They only make a little bit of money.

Which is smart, they have always made money on their consoles. They are a company after all.

Microsoft and sony sold there consoles for a loss on launch. Nintendo could've put an OLED in the switch 2 and done the same but chose not to cause they wanna scam people into double dipping later. It's the truth. Calling them out on it. I'm just being honest.

Man it's sad that in the year 2025, OLED is still like this aspirational thing that Nintendo might hopefully go with in the future.

The cynic in me thinks that the Switch 2 LCD screen has less to do with the cost, and more about Nintendo wanting to hold back features to save them for a premium-priced mid-gen upgrade.

They don't want to lose money on consoles because they want to make money.

Unlike Microsoft and Sony, Nintendo's gaming division is financially healthy. Think about that before posting again is my advice.

Sony's gaming division has been posting record profits. I have no idea what point you're making here. Nintendo didn't put an OLED in the machine at launch cause they're wanting people to double dip later. Nintendo are also opening up a theme park in epic universe in orlando. They're not hurting for money.

So, there's not going to be Switch 2 Pro rumors this time 😂😂… Switch 2 OLED rumors now… Watch Nintendo releasing a Switch 2 Pro with the same LCD screen in 2028 😂

My understanding was Nintendo initially went with LCD to avoid VRR Flicker, which can be a common issue with OLED screens.

If they can eliminate or reduce the issue of VRR flicker then sure, I could believe this.

Microsoft and Sony are billion dollar conglomerates that can have their Windows division or movie division pick up the slack while their consoles lose money

If Nintendo's gaming business loses money, nothing else remains to pick up the slack

The fucking thing isn't even out and already OLED rumors are starting, talk about jumping the gun.
Well I'm glad they're already in the works, because I might just wait for the Switch 2 OLED model before I jump in to the Switch 2 era. I say that because I still only have the launch model Switch, and wish I had the better dock, the better screen. It's such a waste of money to buy one model, then buy another later, keep and not use the old model or trade it in to GS for peanuts.

There's no must-have Switch 2 exclusive out at launch for me, no Animal Crossing, Fire Emblem, Mario or Zelda only on Switch 2, and sorry, but Donkey Kong just isn't going to cut it for me.

Are there actually any 120 Hz OLED screens with VRR? Because so far I haven't been able to find a single handheld with such a screen.

Guess what guys, bears shit in the woods!

The incoherent rage about things that were always going to happen is crazy. Enjoy what you've got now, don't waste time complaining about the future.

Cause at the end of the day that future might not be as long as each of us hope it would've been. And mileage may vary on that for each of us.

It's not even true for all we know but yeah no reason to buy hardware if there are no games for you to play.

We even had a thread about how PlayStation and Sony were kept alive thanks to their TV sales, what are you talking about.

Nintendo right now.

But jokes aside, when they announced a LCD screen for the first gen Switch 2, it was obvious they plan on releasing a refresh down the road like they did with the Switch 1. I have both versions of the Switch 1, that OLED screen is a huge difference on that console. Of course LCD tech has evolved over the last decade, so I am expecting this to look decent even if its not the ideal OLED display. Oh well, June 5th here I come one way or another.

All you need to do is look at everything Nintendo, MS and Sony have released over the last 15+ years. Everything they made has gotten a better model down the road. PS4, XB1, Switch, 3DS, PS5... had Wii U not tanked we would have gotten a Wii U Plus or Pro.

Expected. I'd be lying if I said I won't upgrade to the OLED model when it comes out. I told myself I wouldn't with the Switch but then the first time I saw one in person I snagged it immediately. *shrug*

Still not convinced they will sell even 20 by early 2026. We'll see.
I don't think the Switch 2 will sell as well as the original Switch but it's going to sell a ton. The Switch had quarantine to help with numbers quite a bit and it was something new and exciting as well.

There was always going to be a OLED revision as soon as they announced it was LCD.
