[Insider Trading] Ubisoft CEO Thinks Star Wars Outlaws Failed Because ‘The Brand’ Was Less Popular

And yet I would have bought 1313 day 1 from the snippets we saw of that prior to its cancellation. Yet from what I saw of outlaws my opinion was "meh, looks meh, I might play it when it's free"….funny that.

By the brand you mean Star Wars?? They do realize it is like right after Pokemon in popularity and revenue right?
And it doesnt even matter. Good games will sell. Otherwise new IPs wouldnt sell.

I guesd the avengers game flopped because marvel wasnt that popular at the time and now marvel rivals was lucky because marvel is at peak popularity /s

I can get still behind the idea, that they want me to play a woman. But why do I have to play the woman who still sits at 5am in a 70s/80s disco because no one was drunk enough to make a move on her.

The brand does is indeed less popular, but they made a boring mediocre product that had performance issues and basic AI stealth problems at launch.

Each time before the release of their games though, they hype up how incredible and innovative they are...only to release the most re-fried slop that absolutely plays into their open-world formula each time.

He's absolutely right. In the past, the Star Wars brand would have absolutely carried a mediocre game like this. Turns out when the brand has fallen out of favor, it's actually a negative drag on the product - so the game needs to be even better to get traction. The game still wouldn't have been good, but it would have had the Star Wars label - and that would have been enough.

At the very least they should have let you pick between a male or female protagonist. You know like how they did for Odyssey, Valhalla, the last Farcry 6, and recently Avatar. I don't think most people even knew you had that choice with Avatar given the advertising for it.
Seeing how France has 'evolved' I understand why they did what they did (Ubisoft)

These people are willing to lose billions tanking the companies they work for in the pursuit of their ideologies.
I honestly don't see it as ideology. They are looking to maximize sales by targeting women and hbtq people. But they never expect that they'll lose their original audience. They want to keep the cake and eat it too.

It is an ideology because your reasoning implies stupidity and you don't create these massive companies in the first place by being stupid. It's like turning a well known steak house into a vegan restaurant expecting to keep your old customers.

The people with the ideologies convince the money minded people at the top of the company to sign off on this stuff. The whole debacle with Sweet Baby Inc who have friends and associates in these companies that get them hired, to add their input, is an example of this.

Outlaws can be fun(post-update) but I'd rather they revisited Star Wars Lethal Alliance. Which Ubisoft made for the NDS/PSP. Which was also a bit uninspired and played like a Third Person Shooter with light Tomb Raider platforming with arguably poor level design.

Still think the best Smuggler/Mercenary run and gun Star Wars is still Shadows of the Empire. Hard to top that one.
I want a NextGen Dash game ao fucking bad.

You can't be this disingenous.

Kathleen Kennedy herself expressed their strategy of ALIENATING the old fan base in pursuit of "modern audiences". On top of that, the new trilogy is plagued by all sorts of woke nonsense and stupid narrative decisions that destroy the plot as well as ruining the legacy characters (which was a purposeful decision based solely on ideology)

The top execs being stupid enough to believe this strategy would pay off is one thing, but, at the creator's level, SW was 100% ruined by ideology, this is not even arguable.
