Interested in picking up FFXV. World + combat enough to prop up bad story?

Glad I saw this thread. My hype for FFXV was through the roof, had planned to pick it up release day. Then reviews hit and lambasted the story, and so I didn't buy it because the lack of plot stopped me from finishing MGSV and I was worried the same thing would happen here.

I can handle awkward dialogue, I can handle nonsense. I enjoyed Kingsglaive quite a bit, the world they've created really interests me. What I can't handle is a lack of any story. But it doesn't seem that there's a direct parallel there between FFXV and MGSV, so I'm convinced. I'll pick it up.

edit: or should I wait for the story patch? Are we expecting it to change much?

There is a story here, it just isn't told well. MGSV's story has no ending it just cuts off at the end there.

We have no idea when the story patches hit so honestly no point waiting for that annoucement. It's a long term plan. Also regarding any chapter people had problems with like 13, a story patch ain't fixing what the problem with that one.

Wait for story patches and the game of the year version that has all the DLC (hopefully actually integrated into the story). The game will also be cheaper anyway so you aren't losing out. Only downside is having to dodge spoilers for however long it takes for that to happen, but you'll at least be getting "the game as they intended to ship it" rather than "the game they tried hard for, but is lacking in certain aspects" de to time constraints.
