Lucasfilm has basically confirmed that a Star Wars TV series is in the works, short of issuing a press release. From Comic Con to the Star Wars DVD press junkets, different Lucasfilm officials let it slip that a live action series is in the works.

Back on the 10th, IESB printed a rumor that Kevin Smith and Mark Hamill were working on the Pilot where Hamill would play Luke Skywalker in a 'pop up now and then' role. Both Kevin Smith and Hamill have also been spotted at the Ranch recently and Hamill did a Hyperspace chat from there during his visit.

This rumor has really been picking up steam and Kevin Smith has been teasing about it for a while on Newsaskew. Recently, a mod on the official View Askewniverse message board attempted to trick Smith into spilling the beans:

Mod: Or were you blissfully unaware that you’ve been dotting the T’s and crossing the I’s with George Lucas over the past few days?

Kevin: Nope - not even you are gonna trick this one out of me.

*Goes back to humming the theme from 'Star Wars'*

OMG THAT WOULD RULE

They could have an episode where contractors refuse to work on an imperial project because the rebels might blow it up or something

just like in clerks

Huh. I've not been paying close attention to these rumors. Last thing I remember was that it would take place between Episodes III and IV, but I guess a recurring Luke Skywalker role from Hamill would cancel that out. Unless he's the new Daniels.

That deserves another set of LOLs

:lol :lol :lol

Am I the only one not excited about the Star Wars TV show? It just isn't compelling, and having someone like Kevin Smith working on it isn't very alluring. :\

There's also a rumor that J. Michael Straczynski may be involved in some way.

If it's a way for Lucas' friends to have some fun with the franchise before it's over, it's not a bad idea really. It'll be a good fan service too.

Spielberg Wars Please.

I'm not sure about this Star Wars TV show stuff. Even if it's not as bad as the Holiday Special, that doesn't mean it'll be anything approaching quality.

its interesting news, i wonder if it will be formated like the young indiana jones tv series: a jedi will learn a valuable life lesson each episode and there will be a minimum of what makes the franchise attractive, space opera with lightsaber battles and space combat.

i have a bad feeling about this....

Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back begs to differ!

Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back is simply View Askew fan service and it's funny as hell.

Jay's message board post that he recites loudly in the fast food place is classic:
"All you motherfuckers are gonna pay. You are the ones who are the ball-lickers. We're gonna fuck your mothers while you watch and cry like little bitches. Once we get to Hollywood and find those Miramax fucks who are making that movie, we're gonna make 'em eat our shit, then shit out our shit, then eat their shit which is made up of our shit that we made 'em eat. Then you're all you motherfucks are next. Love, Jay and Silent Bob. "

And his Planet of the Apes monologue is better than Tim Burton's movie:
"Holy hell, is that monkey waving at us? Oh shit. It understood us. Maybe it's some kind of super monkey. What if there's more supermonkeys up at that lab? WHAT IF THEY'RE CREATING AN ARMY OF THEM? Holy shit. It must be a conspiracy like in the X-Files... ROSWELL style. This little monkey could be the fuckin' damn dirty ape responsible for the fall of the human race. In this world gone mad, we won't spank the monkey- the monkey will spank us. And after the fall of man, these monkey fucks'll start wearing our clothes and rebuilding the world in their image. OH and only those as super smart as me will be left alive to bitterly cry - DAMN YOUS. Goddamn yous all to hell. "

And how can you hate a movie that gave us the line that will haunt Ben Affleck to his grave: "Affleck, you the bomb in "Phantoms", yo! "

Well, Smith would be perfect to play Porkins.

I'm cautiously optimistic, Smith's done good work with characters he admires with his comic writing.

Jay & Silent Bob Strike Back was fucking hilarious fan service at its very best. The passage Mana quoted has to be one of my favorites, as Mewes delivery alone cracks me up. I can't say I ever met anyone face to face that was a fan of Smith's stuff that didn't like the movie.

And it was better than MallRats (which receives way too much hate, IMO).

Not only was J&SBSB shit, it was recycled. A huge portion of the storyline came from Smith's comic "Chasing Dogma", which chronicled Jay & Silly Bob's journeys between Chasing Amy & Dogma, what Smith did take from that comic was less funny than it was in the comic and what he didn't was 10x better than the shit he substituted it with in the movie.

Mallrats was vastly superior to JSBSB.

And JSBSB had a grand total of about 2 or 3 funny lines (that internet forum bit was admittedly hilarious and by far the funniest thing in the movie by a very, very, very wide margin, possibly excepting Jay's rap at the beginning). Otherwise, it was some of the most half-baked, groan-inducing masturbatory tripe I've ever seen. Yes, the "chocolate pretzel handshake" thing was funny the first time you did it, but it's not funny to just randomly stick it in a different movie just for the hell of it. That's just DUMB.

I'm sure you can go to any comic book convention and find a random flock of nerds who can throw together a superior View Askew tribute performance for you on the spot.

A fanservice TV series would still be 5 times better than the prequels.....which were basically just Lucas-service.

I thought that the show was supposed to follow young Boba Fett or something, but if it takes place post-EP6, then that would totally rock! It would be a nice way to make up for the sequel trilogy that was supposed to happen but no probably won't.

Other than Mallrats, Kevin Smith films usually irritate me after about ten minutes. I consider this bad news.

At least, I would, if I thought a Star Wars TV series was a good idea in the first place.

If they want to continue Star Wars, just adapt Timothy Zahn's "Thrawn" novels into a new trilogy of VII - IX please, thanks.

Oh, and keep Lucas far away from them.

Considering how heavily the main OT cast is involved in Heir to the Empire, Dark Force Rising, and The Last Command, it wouldn't exactly be a simple task to believably adapt the novels.

Replace them with computer animated actors! Lucas can stick the actors' likeness on anything because he owns their faces! =P

I can't stand the cheesy looking sci-fi TV show special effects...I hope this won't be as bad.

Yes, they are improving...but there's still a noticable difference. If this series can pump out movie-quality effects, it will turn a lot of heads.

I don't understand why they just don't do a KOTOR-like show. It'd be so easy to have it set in the Star Wars universe, yet have the freedom to do basically what they wanted with the characters.
