Asian girl. I've ever only dated a dude once. He was white. My family was not pleased. They wanted me to date my fellow kin... >__> My family's traditional, that way. They don't really trust foreigners will have the 'same' values (and by 'same' they mean 'superior')

He was great. I really liked him. We only broke up because he chose to migrate over to the States and he asked me to come with, but Australia's home, so...

We are still friends. Very good friends :)

Now in a long-term relationship with a gf :D (still in the closet though. in real, she's just my bestie :>) And now my family is all like, even foreigners are okay, you are getting older every minute!

.___.;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;

I've never dated anywhere near my ethnicity. It's always been girls of various European (ie white) backgrounds.

Hasn't been an issue. My family doesn't even really care, and they're Muslim. The girls parents have never cared either. I can only remember getting guff from some black women for it, and even then, they were just grumpy women is my guess.

I can't imagine having to deal with any sort of culture/ethnicity/religion related issues because of who I date.

how can interracial relationships be real if race isn't real??

???

<------ White guy.

My first semi-serious relationship was with a girl who was half black/italian and race was never an issue.

Asian male; I've dated White, Italian, Irish and an Indian girl. Never got any weird looks or anything like that. For the most part their families like me and treated me well.... the Indian girl's parents were another thing :D

I'm a white as can be (Irish/Scottish/Cornish/Welsh) American. GF is from Brazil.

I am now terrified of accidentally using the word "soccer." Bad things happen.

I'm a white guy and the only major experience I've had in this area was hooking up on and off with a Bangladeshi Muslim girl who didn't tell me until the middle of the first time we slept together that she'd never done it before (which from our prior activity I would never have guessed). We'd always gotten along well before that and I guess she was actively rebelling against the more conservative elements of her home culture. It was fun, we never dated or anything, and it was never weird. We sort of found our way back to each other every now and then while we were still at school.

Hooked up with an Indian girl for a little bit, but there was no sex and she was pretty much just using me for a rebound. My only one night stand was Indian as well.

What the actual fuck? People decide all these stuff while they are dating? This is a big news to me.
Better than waiting until you get married.

I'm half-Italian/40% black/10% Native American (Other than the Italian none of those are exact) and I've dated pretty much every color of human there is. Currently married to a Portugese/Irish/black woman. I've never had any problems with any of my relationships. Though I also see lots of interracial relationships around here.

Black with a white girlfriend, only gets awkward when we're in south georgia because we get odd stares, plus she had to cut ties with some friends who were less than thrilled about the relationship.

Op, wanting your kids to be circumcised and having Muslim names is arrogant in my opinion.let your kids decided if they want their penis mutilated when they are old enough to know what it does. Don't give them obvious Muslim names, that's a bad Idea. My name is proof. It's too obvious of its origin and I get made fun of sometimes.

Very cool.

Didn't let the ignorance of her friends influence her happiness.

Here is this nonsense again, not to mention the rest of this post.

Good lord.

Yeah lol, she tried at least, at first she didn't want to except that they actually felt that way, but once it became pretty obvious she broke it off with them.

Black with white girlfriend. Dated for 10 years at this point. Not many issues.

I added more to explain why, with the way things are today, I don't think it's a good idea, just name them some simple.

Stop using terminology like "genital mutilation" to try and shame people that have made this choice for their children.

And as far as the naming goes, he is likely proud of his heritage and wants a Muslim name for his kids. I see nothing wrong with that, even if you do.

I'm hispanic(look white) and dating a black girl. Very happy. Do get a few stares sometimes *shrug.

I prefer dating outside my ethnicity to be honest. Wouldn't turn away a hispanic girl if I was single. It would take me a bit to warm up to a dominican though.

Latino with Chinese girlfriend. All's good. I like to think we're making some racist cunts really mad when we are in public.

my first 4 girlfriends here in Dubai were Indian...never again.

Nothing to do with them personally, but at about the 6 month mark their parents step in and apparently being Australian, she isnt allowed to date me.

Girl 1: not allowed to date white guys - is hindu, has to date hindu
Girl 2: not allowed to date white guys, she tells me 6 months in - is Muslim, refuses to tell her parents about me
Girl 3: Independent, amazing girl. Owns an Art Gallery here. 6 months in she tells me that she told her parents about me. Her dad says if she keeps dating me he will pull his investment from her art gallery and disown her as apparently dating me will "bring shame to their family" - she was forced to marry a guy a few months later
Girl 4: apparently only fucked me to say she has fucked a white guy - then left 3 months later because her parents were forcing her to marry a bald, fat doctor back home.

Apparently i can only date british/aussie/american girls here othewise i bring "shame" on their families it would seem.

Oh btw, these girls are all anti-racism and support all kinds of charitable causes - yet when i pointed out that they were being racist in that they were stopping to date me SPECIFICALLY because of my race, they thought i was being unreasonable.

I'm white, 22, and have been dating a Chinese woman for 3 years now. Previous to her I've only dating white girls.

There's not much to say, really. It's pretty much the most "accepted" interracial couple at this point, nearly to the point of being a stereotype in itself. Our different ethnicities don't play much of a role in day to day life, though we do make fun of each other when we live up to our own stereotypes and stuff like that. I will admit I found it pretty exciting when we first started dating, though!

One thing though: Her parents. Her parents are the negative stereotype of Chinese parents pretty much to a T. They don't like me, they don't even want to meet me. I've been dating her for three years, they know I exist, but to this day we haven't met. Partly because I'm not also Chinese, and partly because...I'm a guy dating their daughter at all. Pretty dumb! You're not suppose to date in your teens and 20s, of course, you're suppose to hit 25 and magically be married.

In China or America?

My experiences:

Been together with my chinese gf for 5 years, started out as an internet-"relationship". One year later I came to China for her. Her parents are the best chinese parents I can wish for me. They see me as a son and they totally pamper and spoil me. Her dad thinks highly of germans so he accepts me and her mom doesnt care at all that I am a german.
Even though we will live in Germany in the future, they support my gf with everything.

What I hear from other chinese/german relationships though is so... strange. I kinda feel bad, but I hear from my gf, that some others are rich as hell. Someone turned a great paying job down, because it was not enough (3500€ after taxes paid, directly after high-school). Some others drive in their newly bought BMW. Some have an own appartment (not just renting one) at the age of like 24...
This kinda makes me feel totally bad...

"Oh whatever, this is different!"
"How?"
"..." *shrug*

Current gf is black and I'm white. It's a different experience, but a good one. Plenty of stares, but never any out loud comments or hostility. Definitely feel more judged around white people than black people, and she feels the same way.

damn that stung just reading that man. sorry to hear that. it seems, just going by this thread, that a lot of people let their parents dictate their adult life, particularly their love life for the sake of acceptance and finance. it's bizarre to me that these people are living at the mercy of their parent's opinions rather than living for what makes them happy. the only thing to do is let these type of peoole walk away because it's not worth dealing with constant parental intervention in what should be YOUR relationship . sad that there are peoole sacrificing a life of happiness with someone they love for daddy's allowance and approval for bigoted and possessive views.

Such a massive shame. Seems like Ive read the same thing like 10 times now in here.

The problem seems widespread huh?

They aren't, but the race myth is still going strong on GAF. Understandable though since the race myth is still pretty in your face all around the world, especially in America.

Yeah.

Also telling her dad that race isn't real didn't work on either of the dads I tried it on.

From my own experience, religion and culture affects sentimental relationships far more than race per se, for they affect the human psyche far more deeply.

Yup. Most of times people talk about "racial divides" when it would be far more accurate to talk about cultural divides, which is, by far, the most contentious point of friction in nowadays societies (multicultural VS integration debate). A black atheist American will have far more in common with a white atheist American than with a black hardcore muslim Congolese, for example.

I've dated just about every ethnicity (even different types of hispanic; Cuban, PR, Dominican, Colombian, Argentinian, Venezuelan, Brazilian etc). I'm filipino btw

Thats just it though. You don't seem to understand that in Asian, Indian and other cultures that are non-western, there isn't as much individualism. Families are inter-generational, share a large family or house etc. A big problem for immigrants is that they come from these environments and have a hard time integrating, especially parents. So to you its so weird etc. But to the parents it's normal. And it's up to the kids to decide what they want. Usually though parents and family tend to win out, even if it's for the worse. Often times, a lot of these kids are dependent on parents for finance, aid. They can't go against something their family is vehemently against.

From my own experience, religion and culture affects sentimental relationships far more than race per se, for they affect the human psyche far more deeply.

Yup, that's why interracial relationships tend to rise in multicultural countries. Usually the largest barriers are culture, language, religion, as opposed to skin color. Don't get me wrong, skin color does make a huge difference, even if people don't want to believe it. But when you have people grow up eating the same food, listening to the same music, watching the same shows, speaking the same language, many barriers are removed. That's the benefit of the melting pot. So that's why in places like NYC and other large cities with a diverse population you see all sorts of pairings.
