Do you have any apps that were copied from his account? Maybe it's confirming for DRM purposes?

Yes. But I just wanted to update the apps *I* downloaded. Why is asking me for his password, for the apps, *I* downloaded with my account, on my ipad.

The only thing worse than iTunes in my experience was SonicStage. I can't believe iTunes is still SO SHIT.

I've moved on from error 3194 to 3014. That's like.... 180 errors better. Yay!

I find that this whole process of determining what's synched over wifi onto your PC and what's backed up in the cloud to be quite confusing. What's the canonical copy of the apps that are going to be installed on my iPhone?

Basically, iTunes sucks.
Why sync your apps to your PC then? There's no point in doing both.

I really think iCloud is going to be a clusterfuck for houses that have multiple Apple users that share somethings but not others.

For example, my girlfriend and I share the same purchased applications, music, and videos. We have separate Game Center accounts. We have separate Twitter accounts. We do not share mail, calendars, contacts, reminders, bookmarks, notes, photos, or application data/documents.

So how do I set up her phone so that she shares the same iTunes/shop account but has her own separate iCloud account?

Edit: Bonus controversy; we do want to share photos on desktop platforms, so iPhoto should be able to download photo streams from both hypothetical accounts :p

I have an iPhone, my wifes iPhone, my iPad and my daughters iPod touch that I share my ID with. I am hoping to setup different iCloud accounts for myself, wife and daughter and still share the purchased apps. Will see if I can soon.

I'm having a bit of a problem with iTunes wireless syncing. I've plugged my iPhone into the computer via the cable (as normal) and I've ticked the box that "enables wireless syncing." Yet the progress bar at the top just says "Waiting for changes to be applied."

I left it for a while but nothing changed, it's as if it wants me to press a save button or something elsewhere, but I'm totally stumped.

Any help?

xbmc compatible?

Oh good question actually. The last update for AppleTV broke XBMC initially so I waited till they fix that. Hopefully this one doesn't break XBMC again since that's the primary reason I jailbreak. Time to hop over to the XBMC forums to see if there's any word.

Been trying to update for 5 and a half hours now, since the update came out.

Still get an error after the long arsed backing up.

Also, I've updated Lion, signed into iCloud. Gone into Preferences on iCal and Address Book, allowed them to sync with iCloud - but going on the iCloud websites and I have empty Address Book and Calendar.

LOL at the people bitching about how issues are Apple's fault. This is what happens when products and releases are highly anticipated and everyone waits and jumps to get them at the same time.

If you really have a problem with it, then next time wait til the day after FFS.

For the people who are seeing disappearing apps/music -

One of the things iOS5 does differently is that it allows you to use your device whilst it syncs and doesn't give much indication that it's not done. So, I found when I updated to the beta originally that I thought it was done when it really wasn't, and appeared to have gotten rid of everything because it was waiting for changes to be applied. Maybe that's part of the problem? Just a thought.

With the iOS5 beta I've disconnected my iPhone from the sync cable a couple times before it was done just 'cuz it looked like it was complete... Hrmmmn.

This was the horrifying scene I saw initially:

That was back in June though. I would hope it would be smoother now. :)

Can you turn that off though? If I do a backup in iTunes can I make it ignore the apps? Cuz right now I can't back everything up to iCloud and I'm dependent on some back up going through iTunes.

It's not an app. It's a folder. Folders can't currently go inside folders in iOS.

Does iMessage tell you if the message has been "read" by the recipient? That's one of BBMs strengths, you know when someone's read your message or not.

Tobor said:
Yes. It's an option in settings.

The option sets it for you. So if you turn it on it will tell others you've read the message. So, if you want it the other way around (show you they read it), the people you are Messaging must also have that on.

You keep explaining that to people but I have to ask, don't you think Apple should change that? It seems to be confusing a lot of people.

I just don't get why didn't Apple took the opportunity to also add delivery receipts to normal texts. Seems like a no-brainer.

Thank you for pointing this out, sir.

I don't really care. Just explaining Apple's rationale.

It is partially Apple's fault for releasing so many things at the same time. They could have staggered it more.

It asked me to enable location awareness when I installed, so I don't see why it wouldn't work. All of the necessary hardware is in the 3GS isn't it?

I can't remember if it asked me to enable location awareness, but I can't find it in the Settings anywhere. And when I make a reminder it only gives me the option to 'set by date'. It has GPS, so you would think that it works on a 3GS.

It doesn't work on iPhone 3GS or even iPad 1 3G. Shame. Hopefully changing that is as simple as editing a plist.

Yeah. I was restoring from a backup on my PC, and it looked successful on the phone - but somehow it didn't think it was successful in iTunes, so I had to set it up as a new sync device (for my media) - which means re-doing the sync settings on the iTunes side again. While doing that I noticed that it was trying to install all my apps that I had unchecked.

I just have a bit of confusion between the media that's on my PC, and the iCloud backup which has no media. Who stores the "App" list?

When my media's done sync-ing I think I will turn off App sync-ing on my PC and see what happens. Ideally my phone should use iCloud only from now on. For apps. Ugh.

Did they give a specific reason why it doesn't work on those devices? Or is it just their way of telling me I should buy a new iPhone 4S ?

You still need iTunes for a lot of situations relating to media or adding data to an app.

Turns out that in order to make events again on the calendar app, I have to iCloud the app first. What. The. Fuck.

Was just going to post about this because nothing iCal-related is syncing up for me.

Nah, it's not like Apple to point out those kind of "details".

There's also no photo editing on those devices, or multitouch gestures on the 1st gen iPad which kinda pisses me off (since they were there for a long time and I got used to them).

Apple being Apple. btw, an iPhone 4 will suffice :P

Question (apologies if it has been asked before) I jailbroke my iPad 2 with Cydia and want to upgrade to iOS5 (don't want to keep jailbreak). I figured I could do it the normal way and itunes would just overwrite the jailbreak but I get and error (3173) noting my iPad can not be restored.

Do I have to delete the jailbreak first? How do I upgrade?

I got it working, all apps are restored, though my videos and music are gone.

Now I want to add music, but it doesn't let me. Anybody know what's up with that?

I need music, otherwise the trip to work will be boring.

Does the iPhone version of iOS5 Safari have the "Reader" option? I thought it was supposed to but I can't find it.

Edit: Nevermind, it didn't show up on the first couple pages I tried but it did on a different one.

Photo editing works on my 3GS, assuming you're talking about the cropping and photo-enhancement.

All this makes me even sadder that my 4 died.

Have you tried doing a manual wi-fi sync? Go to Preferences -> General -> iTunes Wi-fi Sync -> Sync Now. Let us know if that works without being plugged in. I'm at work or I would test it myself.

nope

it even says under "iTunes Wi-Fi Sync"

Automatically sync with iTunes on your computer when your iPod Touch is plugged in to power and connected to Wi-Fi.

I hope there is some way around this or maybe I am doing it wrong? Otherwise this a massive failure :(

Why in hell would I need to be plugged into power? doesn't that defeat the whole purpose.

So in the end, I got the update.

Looked like I lost everything, just lost my music.

Feel a little bad ass now that I have it.

Time for a new phone though.

BECAUSE NEWSTAND IS A FOLDER. YOU CANT PUT A FOLDER INSIDE ANOTHER FOLDER.

Why the fuck is this concept so hard for people to understand? Is the reason that mysterious??

Newstand groups magazine apps. Every magazine is an app, and behaves differently. This isnt the iBookstore where books are files, and follow Apple's design guidelines.

They can't. This is the way the market evolved for magazines, that they would be apps rather than special documents. It's kind of a shame it happened that way, but Apple didn't think they have enough pull to make a magazine market and request that all the magazines already in the AppStore stop releasing there and release for a new product. Apple had to make a compromise. They extended a few APIs, put a few new flags into the app bundles XML files, and a few other tweaks, and put it in a special folder.

If you were apple, how would you have gone about it. I guess one change I would have done is to make newsstand not appear until the first magazine app is downloaded. Apple chose instead to make it always visible and add a little button to quickly take you to that section of the AppStore. Maybe not the best thing, but certainly not the worst.

Just ran hone real quick from the office to grab some medicine. To my surprise, my iPad 2 had magically updated to iOS 5 when 3 hours ago I had left it to attempt the backup & verify process for the fourth time.

So tonight I'll just plug in my iPhone 4 and walk sway from it for 3 hours in hopes that it'll magically sort itself out with iOS 5.

Apple dun goofed. I still can't transfer my MobileMe account to iCloud!? *SMH*

I'm convinced EVERY apple service is down. Can't update, can't download, can't go to app store, can't rent movies on apple tv, can't do anything.

It's not mysterious, people just don't want to see it and there is not an easy way to hide it.

I maintain my position that the newstand folder should have a spot in the settings app to disable it. like the built-in nike+ app has. I know it’s a folder. Apple can work behind the scenes to make it invisible via user choice.

it really is useless on the iPhone. I can deal with placing it on a homepage screen at the end but it’s still mildly annoying.

I got it working, it seems I have to put it in the Itunes library first, then sync to my phone.

Is this right? Befor this, I can drag music to my phone and it will copy, but now it won't let me.

i'm looking forward to the iOS 5 jailbreak just to hide the bastard!
