iOS 5 & iCloud |OT|

I don't get how this iCloud calendar sync thing works. Now I have two calendar things listed on my phone. One is from my mac and one is from iCloud, but the iCloud one hasn't changed since I've done a bunch of stuff on my mac. How do I get things to actually sync between my mac an iCloud? I have my account info and stuff in the iCloud settings on here.

Edit: Oh, didn't know you had to add that account into the calendar thing on the mac, too.

Select "None" under Text Tone in the Sound settings.

Problem is it turns off the text tone but not other media, thats what I meant I am sorry, Android has one slider that turns all other things but the ringer off, iPhone you have to go into settings and do it under settings app by app. Its a pain. Cuz I only want my ringer on at night while I am sleeping in case of emergencies. If I do it that way, every morning I have to go under notifications and turn every app I have notification's on.

I'm going to up again at 1am with this iphone crap. why is this update so frustrating. i finished the update i want to put my apps back on my phone why is that so hard to do.

What kind of emergencies?

Are you telling iCloud to Automatically Download on your iPad? Then it will.

It's funny watching all of you complicate this. :)

In iTunes, I've selected "sync this iPad over Wi-Fi" and "sync on checked songs and videos." Furthermore, I've selected "sync selected playlists," two of which are "iPad sync" and "Purchased music." On my iPad, I have automatic downloads of music enabled, and I'm signed into my account on both devices. Nevertheless, new songs aren't downloading to my iPad unless I manually hit sync my iPad. Is there something I'm missing?

Maybe I am over-complicating things, but I thought I had everything covered. :)

iTunes Preferences - Automatic Downloads.

I have all of those - music, apps, and books - checked as well. Still not working.

Oh well, I'll fiddle around with it later tonight. Thanks for the help, though. :)

and people say the ipad is too simple. nope, it’s s till too complicated.

why? because there’s a “settings" app that no one except geeks ever enter.

images of gears frighten and confuse people.
The problem is the dumbing down to make people think it will just work instead of making them understand that you can configure things to the way you want it.

Wow, so I updated my iPad 2 to iOS 5 and it wiped my entire comic collection from Comic Glass as well as all of my documents from GoodReader along with the app itself.

Fuck Apple. Fucking amateur hour with this shit.

Yeah same. My iPhone 4 updated fine, kept all my settings and apps but my iPad 2 got wiped and I had to set it up as a new iPad.

I don't understand why people associate Apple with quality at this point. Everything about them seems arcane, fucked up and draconian. I got my iPad as a gift and it's a fun toy, but occasions like this remind me why I decided to steer clear of iPhones.

Now i have ghost songs and videos on my iphone that are taking up space. this is really turning to be the worst update i ever experience.

At this point i am going to have to erase everything on my phone. i guess i will be up until god knows when. i want to just slam this phone on the floor and punch someone out.

So a software update that causes users to lose massive amounts of data is funny?

OK sure.

The real lol is how drunk people are on the Apple brand-- so much so that they'll excuse insane fuckups like the ones happening around iOS 5. Sad.

This update fixed the 10GB or so of ghost songs I had on my phone, I think they were old offline spotify songs on mine, but I've got all my space back since the update.

Okay...I changed the title of my two Tron Legacy albums by taking the colon out, changing "Tron: Legacy" to just "Tron Legacy" because the system in my car doesn't understand colons, apparently.

No amount of syncing will update this info on the phone.

Holy shit, LOL

If I haven't had a single problem on multiple devices, then what fuckups do I have to excuse? You're making the common mistake of assigning loyalty to the brand rather than to our own quality experiences. People jumping from Android aren't just suddenly buying Apple products because the marketing clicked or something.

Exactly. Stuff like this is unreasonable. It just shouldn't be happening and there isn't an excuse for it.

How's WiFi Sync working for you folks on Windows? For me, iTunes will only detect my iPhone and iPad about 30% of the time. Of that, half the time when a WiFi sync is started, the computer and the device will lose connection to each other and the device will disappear.

I've tried re-installing iTunes, rebooting my phone, restarting my Apple services (Apple Mobile Device, Bonjour, and iPod Helper services).

Don't let the door hit you on your way out.

Oh, and anecdotally, whenever I use tech devices that AREN'T from Apple, I get reminded how fucked up and arcane they are compared to Apple products. Since they rape everyone else on consumer satisfaction reports, I'd say the problem is more with you than Apple products. My iOS5 update, as well a the other 10 related apple updates I did the same day all went swimmingly, without a hitch. I guess I may have imaged that, because I'm so 'drunk' on loyalty? Go fuck yourself, I can't stand this bullshit when people have a bad experience, and thus feel they have a right to insult everyone else who didn't.

For myself personally, it's because I have far far fewer issues with Apple than with any other tech company.

Shit like what happened to you is inexcusable, sure. But it's not anything like what I experience with multiple Apple thingies over years and years.

That said, you certainly don't deserve the go fuck yourself shit. Bad form.

How fun it is for a damn update to completely kill a phone. that is some user friendly stuff there.

All my contacts are gone, work contacts, personal contacts, everything i have nothing, schedule is gone calendar is gone, gone gone gone. fighting with itunes to back up but it hates it for some reason. i feel like just throwing this phone away and going back to a flip phone

Thanks for addressing the factual assertion of consumer satisfaction reports. Your personal anecdote is so much more important, right? And Apple hardly needs defending. I was more commenting on the inherent stupidity and illogical nature of your assertions, where you insult and condescend anyone who tends to like Apple products, simply because of your shitty experience. That makes you sound like a whiny, entitled brat.

Gosh I'm confused here

I have an apple ID of x@mac.com and an email address of x@me.com. For some reason I can't sign into iCloud with x@me.com on syspref iCloud, but if I do it on the site I get in but only see emails and not contcts, etc

For some reason my iCLoud has auto-synced to my appleID instead. I got confused :(

It's fairly silly to project your one case on the entire brand. I would be pissed off if I had your day today too, but don't let it make you crazy.

For the record, I have a MacBook Pro, four iPods (an old school, a touch, a nano and a mini) and an iPad. I like the devices just fine but the clumsiness of the iOS 5 update and all of the problems around it should be a disaster for Apple yet people seem to love to gloss over their shortcomings. I just don't get that part.

No one is glossing over shortcomings. People are having positive experiences and you're having a bad one. Stop projecting your experience as if it is the same for everyone, and stop pulling out fanboy attack comments just because others are happy and you're not.

I'm not projecting my bad experiences onto anyone. But it's funny to get jumped all over by simply stating the facts of my bad experience with Apple.

God, I'd never do that to you. You're my buddy. =(

I just think that you're having a shit time today with a horrible glitch and needed to vent.

my work contacts are gone, my personal contacts are gone, my schedule is gone everything is gone, i have to wake up at 5am and its already 12 29am and i am still dealing with this phone. everything is wiped clean and itunes is acting so freaking crazy i want to throw my pc out of the window.

Hey, don't use logical arguments like that, because he'll accuse you of DEFENDING THE HIVE! Even if hundreds of millions of people have positive experience, his one shit experience means that they're imagining that and DRUNK ON LOYALTY.

Nah, I didn't mean you. It's just funny when a few zealots' obsessions make them a little crazy in the face of an anecdote that threatens to tarnish their pristine, almost religious experience of the Apple brand.

Did you backup before you updated?
