WiFi sync is cool in theory, but since you have to have your comp on with iTunes up and your phone plugged in it's not AS great as advertised. Windows Phone 7 people came to a similar conclusion.
You don't have to have the iPad 2 plugged in to WiFi sync. It will just do an automatic backup whenever I plug it in.

Weird. As of now, Comic Zeal backs up my entire library to iCloud, meaning they're allowed to store comics in the documents folder, or they haven't complied with these new rules yet.

Fuck. What about Azul, etc? This sounds like a kick in the nuts.

Safari has been hugely optimized! GAF no longer takes seconds to render every time I scroll. I can see things as I scroll by them!

So awesome!

Tried to recreate the experience from my dad's phone to mine, took exactly 5 minutes for the message to get sent as an SMS. Something more immediate would be preferable. It isn't all that bad, but it can be an issue sometimes. I just have to convince her to get a data plan, anyway.

Anybody bumped into a problem regarding iMessage... The caller ID of the other person shows up as their email address and is not merged with their phone number, despite them making sure their phone number is ticked in the Caller ID settings within Messages?

It means I have two threads of one particular person's conversations, one iMessage thread and one SMS thread. Whereas it merges them both with other people.

Ok, so now I have a few widgets, but they're only whatever Apple has done, so my todo app is useless (and apple's reminders app is a terrible replacement anyway, since I don't think you can do recurring reminders). On top of that, though, widgets are pretty useless because they can't even be seen from the lock screen! It's supposed to be a spot to quickly access information, but you have to unlock your phone to see it. You can't do anything with the notifications on your lock screen either. You should be able to touch one and be taken straight to it (put in your lock code, obviously), or to even dismiss the notification altogether from there. I just think apple's solution seems poorly thought out compared to what the jailbreak scene has had for so long.

slide the icon of the notification on the lock screen to go there.

it won’t solve all your issues but at least that’s s big one

Swipe the notifications on the lock screen to go to the app.

How is the speed of iCloud contact syncing for everyone?

I made changes to a bunch of contacts in Address Book on my Mac (10.7.2) and nothing was being reflected on my iPhone (even after pressing the little refresh button constantly) until after I rebooted the phone. Isn't it supposed to be push/update right away?

Oh... Well, that's slightly obtuse but that does take care of that one "problem." Still think they don't quite have it nailed yet with this. I can live with it for a bit, but I just have this feeling they really need to just copy everything lock info did. That thing was pretty perfect.

The only thing I have missed from android is where you could put the text messages on silent, but leave the ringer on. WHY APPLE HAVE YOU NOT IMPLEMENTED THAT SIMPLE FEATURE!

I did a test and it was pretty instant.

Am I the only person who after updating to ios 5 I cant make calls anymore. Like my phone just wont connect to my carrier. Ive been to busy to actually go to an apple store to get it fixed.

Seriously at my wits' end with this stupid thing. No matter what settings I use or how many times I've restored my phone, iMessage refuses to work. It'll switch to iMessage mode when the other person has iMessage, but once I try sending something the message just sits there in blue bubble and then a red exclamation mark appears and it says not delivered. It does this with both wifi and 3G. What else could I do to get this thing to work?

they have to leave something for the iPhone 5

How could you tell your texting to another iOS device with the new Message app?
Your message would highlight blue instead of green. I hope your referring to the iPhone iMessage because that's what my answer is to.

He might have chosen to message you at your email address vs your phone number in which case the same has happened to me and i have two separate threads both with iMessages in them. Also for me only the messages addressed to the email address appear in my iPad and my iPhone while the mobile directed iMessages appear only in my iPhone. Hopefully Apple figures out a better way to do this..

Not really. I'm down in my living room as I'm typing this and just clicked the sync button on my iPhone and it's syncing with my PC and it's upstairs in my room.
Hmm, it seems it's not about distance. It's that I can't sync from my iPod touch 3G. I have to do it from my computer.

Edit: Well...now that doesn't work.

I'm loving the iMessage. Sent a message to my friend in Canada, gonna try with a friend in Japan sometime soon. Unless someone on GAF in Japan with an i device wants to try it with me to see if it works (I imagine it should?)

Why are you bothering to switch the modes? Just turn it on and leave it on.

Is there a way to tell before you message someone whether it will be an iMessage or an sms?

I just downloaded a song from iTunes on my PC. How come it didn't automatically update to my iPad, as well? I have iCloud enabled on my iPad and I'm signed into my account on both devices. Furthermore, my iPad is set to automatically download songs made on other devices (in this case, a PC). I expected the song to just appear on my iPad like it does in the iOS5 video. Help?

EDIT: Err, nevermind. I think I got it.

Thanks. My friends still haven't upgraded. Those fools. So still green.

Isn't that standard in the sound options?

I've run into a problem. The iTunes account I have has a "not" real email and my real email has another account which has none of my music, videos, docs...etc. Is there something I can do here? I can't delete the account?

Finally getting to DL iOS 5 for a CDMA iPhone 4 and WTF it's still slow as hell. iPad 1 update took about 10 minutes and this is telling me 6 hours. The local file is still slow as hell but I'll take 3 hours over 6-9 right now.

I'm not switching the modes. If the other person has imessage on, my phone attempts to send messages through imessage automatically. The problem is that the messages never send.

Select "None" under Text Tone in the Sound settings.

After restoring multiple times I got my contacts back. Now it says my SMS mailbox is full? How is that possible? I can't even receive any damn texts. What gives?

My address book syncs almost instantly but my calender is still missing some stuff i added yesterday. Everything else is perfect. I've used @me mail a lot today and I'm liking it. Probably going to stick with it as my primary.

After searching around it seems that it's not just me, several others have mentioned their iMessage failing in the same manner as mine. No way to fix it for now it seems.

My iPad is too small to fit all my iTunes music. To get around this, I created a specific playlist that'll sync with my iPad. Any music that I want on my iPad, I'll put into this playlist. But because I sync this way, will iCloud not automatically push new purchases made from my PC to my iPad?

For example, let's say I buy Gnarl Barkley's "Crazy" on my PC. To get this on my iPad, I first have to move it into my "iPad sync" playlist, then manually hit sync before it'll show up on my iPad. Is there any way to automate this process? I remember watching the "Intro to iCloud" video where a purchase made on a computer immediately downloaded to an iPhone. Based on my circumstances, is this not possible for me?

Sorry if this has been mentioned but I'm wondering if, given the fact that HBO is going to allow Xbox playback, there is any chance that they'd allow wireless mirroring from the phone/ipad. Has anyone heard anything about that or tried it yet?

I don't know whats going on with my phone. this update has been the worse for me in all my years with apple products. i dont know whats going on with my phone, the apps are there like they are downloading but nothing is downloading and it just says waiting and when i go the app store into purchased apps the are apps there that say they are installed but are no where on the phone.

Are you telling iCloud to Automatically Download on your iPad? Then it will.

It's funny watching all of you complicate this. :)

and people say the ipad is too simple. nope, it’s s till too complicated.

why? because there’s a “settings" app that no one except geeks ever enter.

images of gears frighten and confuse people.
