I've seen a few people discussing being able to search withing a web page in Safari on iOS5. Can someone please point me to how this works, because for the life of me I'm unable to find it.

you can do that in iOS 4 as well. just type in search and in the suggestions box go all the way down
 
Safari is a lot faster for me (iPhone 4). Gifs play at the right speed, and JavaScript animation is much less choppy. Good times.

I believe Apple only permit ringtones of a certain length to be used as text-tones.

That's way too long anyway, I restrict some of the custom ones i've made in Garage Band to about 15 sec, 20 max. Really, just try to get it to sound good on loop and you don't need a 30-45 sec RT.
 
So I've enabled W-Fi- syncing on both my iPad 2 and my iPhone 4S but, when docked (not plugged into the computer), only the iPad 2 is showing up under my devices list in iTunes.

I'm pretty sure I'm using the same iTunes settings for both devices.

Anyone know what's going on?

Ya, I think it's too long. The only reason I know is cuz I was noticing that not all my custom ringtones were showing up as alerts and the ones that didn't all seemed to be over 30 seconds.
 
how do i remove events from my icloud calendar? cause this is fucking ridiculous

yeah the problem is my calendar has 4 years of events. im just gonna switch back to manually syncing with my outlook calendar. cause this is retarded.

Just discovered some new changes that I didn't know about, thought i'd share;

-When using the camera app, you can swipe to the right to go straight to your camera roll, so basically your camera app acts as the newest photo and you can swipe right to see shots you took.

-This might be common knowledge but you can now lock the exposure/focus by holding tapping and holding for a second; really useful.

-When writing an email you can now drag and drop the contact into whatever field you want.

-Song and album information now scrolls so you can FINALLY see the whole album/song title where before it just ended with a '...'

-You can now delete your recent calls one by one instead of all of them, great news for cheating husbands.

-Multiple apps can be downloaded/installed at once, instead of one-by-one

And some other stuff that may be more common knowledge for some, but new to others;

-Custom keyboard shortcuts can be made in the settings, so when you type gaf it automatically makes it GAF or NeoGAF through correction. sm=Spider-Man, etc.

-Custom vibration from incoming calls as well as ability to set the LED flash to go off with incoming calls.

-Custom tones from everything to calendar events to voicemail.

-Define option when selecting text, no more need for a dictionary app.

-You can totally disable in-app purchasing across all apps, great news for people with kids using scammy apps.

A bunch of small features like this, but most are easy to spot out over time.

does the cloud only push itunes purchases, or will it store the music (or photos) too?

thinking about creating a keyboard shortcut for "lol" so it produces "Laugh out loud!!!"

Your iCloud may have 4 copies of 1 calendar active/showing. If that's the case (and that was the case for me), just go in and un-check 3 of them and you'll be all good again.

It stores photos in Photo Stream, it stores your non-matched songs if you have iTunes Match, music it matches it obviously has no need to store copies of, it just connects to the iTunes store.

nope its all one color, meaning its under Calendar and not Work or Home. So i have to disable syncing with icloud on my iphone, resync to my outlook, and then go back to normal i just need to wipe my icloud calendar somehow.....

In order words, I can't clear the photos from my phone to make space and access them from the cloud only?

You can clear them. Your Photo Stream will still have those photos and you'll be able to access them.

By "stores in Photo Stream" I mean stores them on Apple's servers.

Also, that Safari page search above is new to me. iOS4 and 5 blowing my mind at the same time!

Did you check to see if it duplicated the calendar? You can use the same name and color more than once.
 
How long did it take you all to do your first iCloud backup?

And are all subsequent backups handled like Time Machine where it only backs up the changes?

Damn, all my calendars got duplicated somehow. How do I fix it?

EDIT: never mind, just figured it out... I unchecked "All on my iPhone", leaving only the stuff on my iCloud. Which was the same stuff.

Not that long. The longest (of the 6) text tones I have is 28 seconds long!
 
Is there a screencap or list of the current default home screen icon order? I moved all the Apple icons into folders and would like to bring them back out.

Edit: Yeah this is how it is. Second page is Stocks followed by the Utilities folder (Contacts, Calculator, Compass, Voice Memos)
 
450 is pretty ridiculous for a early upgrade seeing as the 4S doesn't really improve much on the 4.

Siri is pretty cool, if I were to upgrade, it would be for that one reason.

I say wait for the 5, you'll get an even more improved Siri and who knows what else improvement over the 4S. I don't think going from a 4 to 4S is that big of an upgrade despite some of the cool new additions the 4S does. All those new additions will still be there in the 5. Now if you're on a 3GS, definitely upgrade.
 
I'm sure this has been asked before but how do i set up a group chat for imessage (similar to how they work on BBM). I tried Google but only really found posts confirming it was in there. I may be missing something obvious i guess, but none of my friends saw it either
 
Can someone explain to me how photo stream works? So I notice if I take a picture on my iPhone is appears under photo stream in iPhoto on my macbook. Do the photos then stay on my macbook forever? Because I remember some "30 days in the cloud" thing being said

30 days on the cloud, 1000 pics max. Everything else, you're supposed to backup to a computer, in which case it sticks around indefinitely.

but the photos on my macbook right now, are they already backed up?
 
Ugh working with the cards app is kinda painful since you're forced to do it in landscape mode. Hard to see what's going on when the keyboard covers most of the screen when you're working on text.
