log into icloud.com and on settings there should be option to reset photostream
you can also turn off photostream on the phone and on again

Has anyone else found their photos and video are upside down when using the volume button as a shutter button (on top)? I would have thought the iphone would be able to tell which way it is orientated, particularly since it has a gyro and all...

Why isn't there a ringtone thread yet? I mean, we need independent tones for all of these;

Any recommended sites if there won't be a thread?

Does iCloud backing up over wifi from your iPhone 4 take 2 hours? It does for me for some reason. Strange since backups normally take like 2 minutes on my PC.

It took me two hours as well I'm wondering the same thing, I have no idea why it takes so long.

The first backup will take some time, depending on its size and your upload speed. My backup from yesterday is 165MB and I just did another manually 5 minutes ago and it literally took 1 minute. I'm thinking backups to the cloud are delta updates (that is, they only backup what's changed).

screenlock on?

I think it's really terrible that they are treating magazines as apps instead of their own entity. Not only can't you search for just magazines, they also appear among apps in the toplists, making it very cluttered. I already mentioned having to swim through every magazine's own interface, and the inability to put Newsstand ina folder (without crashing workarounds) but goddamn. They really screwed that one up.

How does iOS5 run on the 3GS....any issues?

l'm probably going to update the wife's 3gs later.

Runs fine on my 3GS - the only problem I noticed is that some larger, non-mobile websites run a lot slower on Safari, unfortunately..

So how is everyone handling their back-ups?

Do you have automatic back-ups set to iCloud and then manually sync to the computer or vice versa (or neither)?

Can somebody explain to me how to get iTunes to refresh the media folder I've pointed it to? I can't find any "refresh" button. Also how does wireless syncing work ? I don't see anywhere on my phone where I can do that

I upgraded my iPhone 4 and iPad 2 last night. No issues. I don't know if this helped or not, but I removed all music, videos, photos, and books prior to doing the upgrade so the content footprint on the device would be as small as possible. I resynced all of it back after upgrading to iOS 5 which took a little while, but all seems to be well.

iCloud is also working well so far. I migrated my MobileMe account to iCloud first, then activated it on my Mac, iPhone, and iPad. I was not using any of the MobileMe sync features originally, so that might have also contributed to the easy switchover. I'm experimenting with the new notification settings to see what works the best for me.

The only puzzle left is how to handle multiple Apple IDs. I have two Apple IDs used for different things, and I'm not sure what my options are for getting onto a single Apple ID. I have a MobileMe-based ID that is being used for iCloud: A@me.com. I also have a previous Apple ID that is using my Gmail account (B@gmail.com), and that is being used for purchases and also for GameCenter.

So here's the question: I have read that there is no current way to "merge" Apple IDs. But I also know that some time ago, my iTunes Apple ID used to be B@someotherisp.com, and I was able to change it to B@gmail.com. So can I change my iTunes Store ID from B@gmail.com to A@me.com and accomplish a de facto "merge" of the two? Or will the system not let me switch one Apple ID to another email address that is already registered as an Apple ID?

I posted this in the 4s thread but I think this is an iOS 5 question

I'm getting my dad a 4s today, when I register his phone will his photo stream iCloud photos go to my macbook like my phone does? or does his phone have to be registered under my apple ID also?

I have a somewhat complicated question that I hope someone can understand. It pertains to the new iMessaging.

We have 5 devices in my house.

I have an iPad and iPhone 4 linked to my own apple ID.

My wife has an iPad 2 and iPhone 4 linked to her own apple ID.

My daughter has in iPod touch linked to my apple ID so that she can make purchases with permission. She doesn't know my password and she has to physically hand me her iPod so I can type in the password when she wants to make purchases and I also get an email receipt copy of everything shw buys.

Sine her iPod touch is linked to my Apple ID, does that mean when I download ios5 to her iPod touch, will she also be getting my text messages?

What is the method in which iMessaging sends out messages? Is it linked to your apple ID or somehow to the individual device? For example, in my contacts book, under my wife's name, I only have her cell phone number and this is all I need to send her a text message. But what information do I need in order to send her a text message through my wifi-only iPad?

You can link iMessage to any email address. Not just an Apple ID.

Your wife can set it up so she receives iMessages through both her email and phone number.

All these different accounts and Apple IDs are giving me a headache. Me and my gf both use the same Apple ID on our iPads to save some money on apps. When I switch from my HTC to iPhone 4S, how can we use Facetime and iMessages? Do we need to have seperate Apple IDs or are different emails enough?

Edit: Answered above, damn my slow fingers. :D

You're uploading your backup to the Internet as opposed to your computer, of course it's slower. USB vs. Your ISPs upload speed.

At least to me, it makes more sense to back-up daily to your computer and then maybe once a week do a manual iCloud back-up overnight or something.

Man, my contacts are all fucked up now. They are fine on my computer, but on my phone I lost a bunch of contacts. Urgh.
Try Resync and on the Info screen go to the bottom and click off Replace Information on this iPhone

I have been highly suspect of the iOS upgrade about why all my shit I used to have on the iDevices, took literally hours and hours of resynching to get things more or less how I remember them

Nice to know I am not the only one realizing this

So from what I can tell in iTunes preferences, you can't actually have both iCloud back ups of your device and local backups? You have to just pick one or the other?

Loving ios5 but not a huge fan of how much micro management is required in notification settings. You have to go in and enable notifications, sounds, banners and lock screen for everything yourself.

Thanks for pointing me in the right direction I think I've figured it out now. Looks like my daughter is going to need an email address if she wants to use iMessage.

Also on something unrelated, shouldn't Find My IPhone be password protected in the settings as a security measure? If somebody steals my iPhone or iPad they can just turn off 'Find My iPhone' in the settings. I would think it needs to be password protected to change this setting.

Seconded to reassure 3GS owners. I've got a 4S and 3GS and iOS5 still runs fine on the 3GS.

I turned Photo Streaming on, but new photos do not show in Photo Stream folder :(. What do I do wrong?

Also, how do I save those streamed photos to my Mac? When I enter icloud.com I can view mails, adresses etc. but there is no Photos icon.

If it's anything like what I use on the windows icloud control panel, you gotta specify the upload and download directories., turn on iCloud photostream on the control panel and also on each of the iDevices you want to participate in it

You need iPhoto or Aperture to access Photo Stream on OS X.

Ok, I've opened iPhoto, but when I try to login into MobileMe, it says, that my password is incorrect. The funny part is, that I have no problem with logging in iCloud.com/me.com with the same account info.

You're doing it wrong :P You need to have the latest iPhoto and go into Preferences > Photo Stream & enable it.

Can one share their Photo Stream with someone else?

For example, could I send my brother a link to my Photo Stream so he can view it on his computer?

Someone correct me if I am wrong because I am still trying to be 100% clear on this myself, but the way I see it now is if you have it set on your phone for iCloud backups .. the phone will backup daily via delta updates to the cloud. When you plug your phone into your computer it'll just charge and sync, no back-up.

If you have it for backup via computer, it'll back-up once per day automatically but you can force multiple daily backups if you eject your device and then connect it again to your computer. Syncs whenever you choose sync.

Isn't this a positive? There are some fairly sensible default settings, you can leave it as it is... otherwise, it's brilliant that you can customise everything so specifically.

Yeah, and I especially wish there was a way to globally turn of the sound notifications. I really don't want my phone making an audible alert every time there's a new groupon or NY Times article or whatever. And as apps update to iOS 5 compatibity, I have to go in and check each one to make sure that sounds are off, because they default to On if I allow notifications.

Hey guys I need some help.

My house has My iPhone, My Mrs iPhone and our iPad all on my itunes account so we share apps.

It's worked fine with facetime etc. will it also effect imessage/friend finder etc or when i update my Mrs's phone soon will I need to set her her own itunes account up but then what happens to everything else?

Thanks

How do I go about having my game saves transfer? I have infinity blade on both my iPad and iPhone and have them both backed up to iCloud. I'be got a few hours in on the iPad but it always starts me at the beginning on the phone. What am I doing wrong?

Do both use the same Apple ID?

Wondering why Apple took the time to actually program Siri to understand what a hooker is and to give an appropriate look up while it can't look up movie times. ODD.

I ALSO WONDER if Siri will get substantially better with each iOS update, or if it will stagnate for a few years and then see a huge update some time down the line?
