Anyone else notice that their battery life on their iDevice is lower after installing iOS 5?

After the update the bluetooth option is enabled by default. Trying to turn it off may help you. Besides this the battery life seems ok to me.

Do you guys have a text sound when recieving iMessages?

I have my text tone on to a MGS codec, but there isn't any sound when I get a iMessage

I'll try with a normal message as well

e/ yup, not even working with normal text...
When i have message open its quiet. But if i close the app itll go off.

Moved my calendars over from Google to iCloud. Lack of to-do (reminders) syncing finally pushed me over. Gmail is still here to stay, but the @me account I'll use as a backup.

Anyone else notice that their phone uses a hell of a lot more power since iOS 5? Seems like my battery drains down a lot more now than it did before.

iPhone 4 here.

I really love switching between apps with a four-finger swipe. Such a simple yet helpful addition. And for the first time ever, I really want to get an Apple computer.

I asked this in the iPhone 4S thread, but it's probably more appropriate here.

Is the official Twitter app capable of updating in the background? I'm guessing not.

This has probably already been covered here, but I have to upgrade to Lion if I want to keep using iCal/Address Book and have everything sync with iCloud? Yet Apple supports five years old Windows Vista for iCloud?

Not much place to talk about it anymore, so I'll just say here that iTunes Match is very borked right now. Shit just doesn't work.
What particular problems are you having? iTunes Match will be one of the big reasons I don't spend an extra couple hundred on a 64GB...

It doesn't refresh your Twitter timeline while in the background if that's what you're wondering. But you should receive push notifications of mentions and direct messages and such.

I have a problem with wifi sync. My iphone syncs over wifi even when it is not plugged into power.

So I could arrive home and if my computer is on (Windows 7) it will automatically open up itunes and sync my phone. The problem is it should only sync if my phone is connected to power. Any ideas how to fix it?

Did you do this manually? I have some Google Calendars I want to try to move over and trying to find the best method to do it.

I wish I had this problem. My iPad won't sync over power. The option remains grayed out for me.

Just when I've started to warm up to iOS5, now shuffle turns off randomly while connected through Bluetooth.

/coolstorybro time but a follow up to the problem from my previous reply. I tried logging off/on the iMessages setting, it stopped working completely and wouldn't let me log back again at all (I'd put in my Apple ID, the software would pretend it was activating and then jump back one screen).

Then I started tracing back what I had changed recently (even turned off emoji) to try and figure out why it stopped working all of a sudden. Messed with the wifi DNS, iCloud settings, FaceTime login (which I noticed stopped working too), etc. Then it got to me that I had ticked off the "Set Automatically" option in the Date & Time settings and advanced the time one hour. Daylight savings was going to start here at midnight and I wanted to set it by myself in advance instead of waiting, and it screwed with iMessages and FaceTime. I turned it back on and both services let me log in with my ID again.

In the help section of Apple's site it says that the date & time settings need to be "set correctly" for Facetime but since I was searching for iMessage problems specifically (and no one but me seems to have faced this particular issue yet) it took me a while to figure out that the same thing applied. Anyway, I'm happy I kept insisting and managed to fix this today.

I've noticed that on the iPhone, as long as iTunes is up and running i can sync wirelessly even without plugging it in. I guess it's just a manual sync if not plugged in, not sure

I'm not, though, even though I turned on notifications in the app.

Exported my calendars from google and then imported them into iCal. They automatically synced back to iCloud.

Hmm, I thought I tried that and when I imported them they showed up under "On My Mac" and wouldn't sync to iCloud.

If your backup up is over 5GB on the Cloud...try turning off iCloud backup...it did the trick for me.

The battery on my iphone 4 seems to be going down a lot quicker with ios 5. Almost everything is turned off but the icloud backup.

Hey just to let you guys know you can send animated GIFS in iMessage. It's probably the best feature ever.

That's awesome! Thanks to you, I was able to send this to my wife:

;)

battery life could be worse cause we're all using our phones more due to the upgrade. just sayin. my iphone 4 seems to be fine.

They need to change that Newstand app list so that the "Free Apps" Don't include all of those magazines that you actually have to pay to do anything in. Things like The New York Times should be the only ones in there.

iTunes Match "gathers information about my library" and then proceeds to skip past the part where it matches my songs against iTunes and then tells me I'm done. Zero songs are matched, and as a result I can't download anything on my phone. It also doesn't upload any of the unmatched songs, which is another problem.

This USED to work in beta 9, but in 10.5.1 beta 1 it's completely broken again.

Not sure, I switched from the official Twitter app to Echofon a few months ago (Echofon also gives you push notifications not just on mentions/DM's, but also for new followers, favorites, retweets, etc).

Only thing I can think of is checking Notifications > Twitter and make sure the settings are correct on that screen (make sure that alert style isn't "none").

Thanks for the help.

What was happening was Twitter.app was not showing up in Notification Center settings. I would turn on Notifications in Twitter.app, then go to Settings.app. Nothing in Notification Center settings. Go back to Twitter.app and it had reverted. I ended up restarting my phone and it finally gave the necessary permissions.

I think I found a bug, though. When I reorder the list of apps in Notification Center and then back out to Settings it keeps changing the order back. Not a big deal, but hopefully it gets fixed.

It's ridiculous how fast the browser is now. Is the 4S supposed to be even faster? Because I don't even know how that's possible.

Wtf, so I have iMessage now on my Touch, but I cant add any contacts. there is no + in my Contacts app.

how fix make work?!!!?

edit: Fixed it, had to sync my email to contacts.

Ah, I didn't know that iTunes Match was in Beta. chances are it'll get ironed out in final release.

About 50-75% of my library probably won't be matched in iTunes, so uploading will be crucial. My internet speed is good so it shouldn't take long to upload all that won't be matched which'll probably be a few thousand songs. Have they said how much space/how many songs we'll be alloted to upload for the $25/year?

How do I get recorded videos over to my PC? Can I expect them to be pushed through iCloud? Wifi sync?

For Macs you have to import it manually to iPhoto. I am assuming is the same for PC. And it's been noted that iCloud doesn't currently support back up with recorded video, just photos.

You don't need a time stamp for every single message when you're having a conversation?

It makes sense. For example I tried to get the time that someone sent me a text before we met up, so I could tell my other peoples what time to expect him, but I noticed even though it was about 30 mins ago it had no time stamp. It showed as a group of txts but I have no idea when he sent the last one
