The four-finger gesture recognition is amazing. Try doing the pinch with your four fingers instead of three fingers and a thumb. IT DOESN'T WORK. I'm trying to move my little finger in exactly the same way as my thumb, and it just doesn't work. It's extremely tightly calibrated to work just with your thumb and three fingers, which presumably prevents unwanted gestures from happening.

I'm very impressed.

I just tried to set this up and it doesn't seem to work. I've been using a 3rd party app called PushMail to get instant notifications when I get mail to my gmail and it worked fine but it'd be nice to be able to have that without having to use a 3rd party app. As popular as gmail is I cant believe they havent made this "just work" yet

edit: never mind I figured out what I was doing wrong, I still think they could make it easier

Why does iTunes keep auto-opening when my iPhone is at home? Even when it's not plugged to the electricity, it will keep launching iTunes on my computer. I have unchecked the "open iTunes when connecting the iPhone", and even if I safely remove the iPhone using the eject button and close iTunes, several minutes later, iTunes opens again.

Is this normal? How do I solve this if it isn't? Help, please. Thanks!

Wild guess, but if you have your iPhone to do a wireless backup locally (not to iCloud) when in a wireless network, maybe that's how it does it - loading iTunes on the host machine to do a backup? Check your Storage-Settings-iCloud-Storage-and-Backup section.

Otherwise you need to deauth and uninstall/reinstall itunes, I suppose.

First, thanks for the fast reply! I have iTunes Wi-Fi Sync on, under General in Settings. Under the iCloud menu, Storage & Backup says that I will Backup on iCloud Backup. If I understand right, I guess I should reinstall iTunes?

If you have wifi sync on, I'm pretty sure it's working "correctly" by auto-launching iTunes all the time.

My GF was having this problem. I unchecked 'auto-launch iTunes when this device is connected' on the main phone screen in iTunes and that seemed to do it.

Is there a way to dismiss notifications on the lock screen? Also, I wish you could bring down the notification page when locked. Anyway to make that happen?

I don't know what would have changed in iOS5, but make sure they are checked "part of a compilation". I've had this issue off and on with some albums going back years from today.

I've tried that and all I get is now all the listings, no matter which one I click on, show the full album, so now I have like 7 of the same albums yet each song is only on the device once. Each of the 7 albums are listing different artists. I've tried the usual tricks to get them grouped together, removing and readding to the device, and so forth, but nothing I can do to get any of these Soundtracks to work. I just don't know what to do to fix it.

That's odd, I also did that, but it insists on doing it. Do you know if she has the same settings that I do, on her phone? I'd appreciate the help, thanks!

Just finished talking to Apple support, apparently there's no way to delete an iCloud account so my old email adress is there forever and I can't bring it over to my other iCloud account which uses my real Apple ID. I guess it's time for a new .me email adress, although I really loved having firstnamelastname@me.com

I'm confused at how the pushing to iOS 5 devices works. I've got an iPod Touch with iOS 5 on it, it's on my iCloud account, as is my Macbook Pro. I downloaded a song and updates to apps on my Macbook Pro yesterday and I don't see that it was pushed to my iPod Touch. How exactly do I get this rolling forward?

Go into settings - iCloud and make sure everything is turned on. By the way, it won't update your apps for you, it will just download new ones.

I've got everything turned on and still got nothing...

Wi-Fi sync didn't work too well with my home network. It worked, but it took quite a while for iTunes to find the device any time I wanted to sync something. Moreover, I would periodically get 'can't find device' disconnection pop-up errors. I went ahead and disabled it. I'll just plug the thing in when I want to sync it.

Mind you, I'm using Windows 7, so the experience may be quite different on OS X.

As of today, my iMessages won't be forwarded to a text message after they're unable to be delivered. Yes, I have checked that option in the setting. It worked the last days! iMessage is by far the most annoying thing in iOS 5.

The automatic downloads is actually under Settings > Store. You can turn on automatic music, app, or books download and tell it whether to use cell data to do it or not.

My soundtracks are grouped correctly by album artist. Did you turn on "group by album artist" in settings/music?

I have my photos automatically sync to a folder on my HDD. So, anything I want on my iPhone is just copied to that folder and iTunes syncs it to my phone. I just copied a load of holiday photos to it, loaded up iTunes and started. I just left it and continued on the internet. After about a minute or so I had realised I forgot to connect my phone...then realised it was doing it wirelessly and has already finished. I love this feature!

I've tried both on and off and no change. Out of the seven soundtracks I put on my phone, four of them show up incorrectly and I can't figure out what's different in the tags to cause it. I keep comparing and I don't see a common factor. Before I upgraded, all of these were on here just fine.

So, how are people finding the iCloud mail? I'm experimenting with moving over from Gmail, but at the moment I'm noticing that the push is significantly slower with iCloud (with Gmail I would often get the push before it appeared in the browser, with iCloud it's some time behind (haven't done a proper test yet)).

What with that and the obvious loss of functionality (the web client in particular) I'm thinking the annoyance of not being able to delete properly might be the lesser of two evils. :/

That doesn't make any sense. I thought the idea of the iCloud is that it backed up your stuff.

All your photos can be automatically imported into iPhoto or Aperture in the new updates. You just need to set it up under the Photostream options. Once you have this setup, all the pictures from your camera roll will always be backed up on your home computer and you never have to worry about taking up space in icloud to back them up.

The 30 days/1000 photos limit on idevices is just there to give you time to show those pics off on other devices (AppleTV, iPad, iPhone, iPod Touch) it is not meant as the actual backup mechanic.

sent an imessage from my ipad to my 4s last night as test and chuckled in delight when it worked. I think it won't work if you don't have an associated sim in the thing - but I could be wrong.

just in case some of you glanced over this feature, you can launch any app in which you are notified from directly from the lock screen by pressing its tiny icon and sliding it, just like an unlock. i personally missed the boat on that one.

Are notifications broken or is it just my iPhone and iOS5? Twitter seems to be the biggest issue, I've enabled notifications within the app but it just seems to forget the settings 5 minutes later.

Is there a fix or should I try a different twitter app?

I'll have to look into how to do this. Before I'd have to launch iPhoto to import photos, now you're saying this is done automatically alongside iTunes syncings?

I don't know why it would care about a SIM given that it works off your Apple ID, and on the iPod Touch and non-3G iPad.

iPhoto should launch automatically when you plug in your iPhone, no? At least it does for me. If you have "Automatic Import" selected in Preferences > Photo Stream it should copy new photos in Photo Stream to your computer while iPhoto is open.

Really digging iOS5. Made my 3GS run wonderfully and it's even better on my 4S. Notifications are so awesome and overall it's been a solid upgrade for sure.

I've been debating though since I got my 4S about whether or not to restore my 4S and use my 3GS back-up (it has iOS 5 on it) that I made just two days before I got my 4S mostly because I miss having my old messages.

The one thing I really want back are just all my old Angry Birds and Infinity Blade scores and I wish that these scores were tied to Game Center and synced automatically with whatever Apple product you have.

It is all explained on the iCloud/Photosteam page:

Guess I'll have to update iPhoto then.

I still think it sucks that it's a free piece of software for Windows owners but you gotta pay for it on OSX if you don't have the latest iPhoto. Wish Apple would offer a util or something to do it for free in OSX.

It's been working beautifully for me.

Is it just me or did ios 5 greatly increase data usage?

Had to switch out of 200mb plan to 2gb due to using about 100mb in 2 days.

is icloud syncing/gamecenter or what not always pushing data or something?

It's $15. Seriously, is that not worth not having the "luxury" that Windows users enjoy for free in exchange for not dealing with everything else Windows puts them through?

Don't you need lion and the latest iphoto?

Marty Chinn does have a point there. My gf already enjoys photo stream on her computer. I don't. I'm a Mac. She's a PC.

THIS WOULD MAKE FOR A GREAT AD

Srsly tho, it's true. And I'm not sure I wouldn't like it better to sync photo stream directly to a folder of choice, ala Windows or Dropbox. Not a big fan of running iPhoto all the time.

What does Windows put me though?

Did you turn on full phone backups to icloud? If not, what are you synchronizing with it?

What does Windows put me through? Why should I pay for a software that I won't use other than maybe Photo Stream? I tried iPhoto before and didn't like it and everyone even said Picasa was better which is what I use currently.

It's the same.

Are you sure you're not just using your phone more?

Location Reminders might do it too.

I'm hoping Picasa gets updated with iCloud integration.

You're gonna be hoping for a while.

Honestly, photo stream is not that important to me, it's actual uses and helpfulness other than 'oh look at this cool it's here and there' are few in my opinion. Wouldn't mind know what people actually use it for.

Automatic backing up of photos is what I'm looking to use it for.
