Does anyone sync with iCloud? Seems pointless when you can just plug it into your computer. It's good for your contacts and calendars, really good, but a full back up seems like excessive bandwidth for no huge benefit.
Apparently one of the main reasons they decided to do this was the surprisingly super high amount of people who never plugged in and synced. Even someone who is sort of a techhead like myself only bothered syncing once every 2 months, surprisingly. I guess most people just load their phones or touches to the teeth and just let it be. So yeah, its a welcome feature for me IMO.

Most of those people surely won't be down for the expense of enough 'cloud space' to allow this to work properly though?

*sigh*

The way iCloud is set up and works is confusing the hell out of me especially when my wife and I share the same itunes account.

Ok, first things first. 5GB of storage to backup. Why are you only allowed to seemingly backup camer roll, documents and apps but not music? Is it because you can access your music purchase history through itunes?
It does backup your purchased music.

Sure, you can "just" plug it into the computer, but is it not easier to not have to?

I was just tired of losing my iTunes installs and iOS backups due to PC failures. With iCloud I don't have to worry about activation count or whether my current PC is the one I last used to sync my files with.

Do you really need to backup your non-iTunes music, games, and whatever else takes you over 5 GB? I've got an iPad and iPhone and I'm only using 1 GB of backup. Apps aren't big. You're still free to sync through iTunes as well.

I have a question about restoring an iPhone from iCloud backup. Let's say, that my phone is so screwed, that it is unusable and the only way to turn it on is through DFU Mode. I connect it to PC and I install iOS through Restore. How do I make use of backup if it isn't on pc? Is there any way to restore from backup directly from iPhone?

After restoring the software, you'll go through a series of steps on the iPhone (connect to wi-fi and whatnot), then you'll have the option to restore from a backup on your computer or iCloud or set it up as new.

My iCloud backup is only 100 MB. I'm only backing up my app data, which is all I really need. And it beats the hell out of syncing with my computer. Plus I can determine which apps to back up, which is even better.

My iPhone backup is 4.2GB alone. I don't get it. Do I have too many apps? My photo reel is *just* 285 megs.

I'm on the verge of upgrading my iCloud storage :(

Because for iTunes purchases you have access to your purchase history and for everything else there iTunes Match.
And for everything else there's Visa.

Apple really has abandoned the podcast people. No iCloud or PC Free solution for it, no automatic updates, A downgrade ipad music app with no direct link to each podcasts itunes page and the category hidden deep within the "More" tab and no way to recustomize that.

Amazing how Siri is running on the iPhone 4. Although its a hacked iPhone 4: http://9to5mac.com/2011/10/14/siri-voice-command-system-ported-from-iphone-4s-to-iphone-4-video/

Still little pissed Apple didn't add it to the iPhone 4. I myself would never use it. But the 4S needs something to have an appeal. No one mass, casual customer cares anything about what's under the hood. Only software.

I buy the theory that this limitation is not just to sell 4S models but because the service is in beta, and they want to limit the user load right now. iPad 2 is extremely close hardware-wise to the 4S and it doesn't do it either.

For automatic downloading of music (I assume podcasts are considered music) does that mean that if I'm subscribed to a podcast in iTunes it will automatically download to itunes when new episodes come out, then automatically get pushed to my iPad?

Nope. It'll only get pushed to your iPad via WiFi sync. Podcasts aren't included in Automatic Downloads nor iTunes Match nor iCloud backups.

Look at the contents of your backup, turn off your comics app, problem solved.

Ok so my wife's "Reminders" are popping up on my phone. We have the same Apple account. What's the solution to stop her reminders from popping up on my phone and vise versa?

Use the same account for App purchases, but use your own account for iCloud. It's what we do, works perfectly.

Reader (and reading list) have completely changed my reading experience on my iPhone and iPad. It's so much more enjoyable now to read articles, especially on less iPad optimized sites. I use Instapaprr a lot but Reader for certain things is a lot faster.

Nah :(

I do have a crapload of other apps but their appdata size is smaller and smaller.

Will she be able to back up purchases made under this one account we're currently using to her own account?

Yup. Works perfectly.

the App Store has our shared account (mine), and everything else has her own personal account.

Why are you backing up your Camera Roll? Import everything on there right now to your computer, and then use Photo Stream!

iBooks - do you need to back that up? Anything bought on the store is synced and redownloadable, and I'm sure you have copies of your personal stuff on your computer too.

Do you have a ton of mms photos and videos? Seems odd that your backup would be that big.
Nop. A 2 and a half year log of plain SMS texting yes, but I doubt it takes much space.

I havent upgraded to iPhoto '11 yet, so no photostream for me (on the computer).

You're right for iBooks though, still, that's only a few hundred megs.

I'll try to figure this out once I jailbreak again.

How much space is your mail taking up? Maybe try turning off backup and turning it back on?
Mail is said to be taking 28KB, which is weird as fuck haha. Totally impossible too. Unless it's simply referring to my unused @me.com account.

My backups to iTunes used to be this large, so if something's going on, I don't think it's iCloud related. Probably just junk accumulated to my backup over the years. I hear that it happens and that sometimes it's good to restore and start up fresh (which I can't afford to). Don't worry. Thanks, though.

I'm fairly convinced the current iteration of iOS 5 has lotta problems

I wanna go back to the previous firmware, I don't even care about the iCloud shit really

Is anyones iPhone Wifi Syncing to iTunes like every 15 mins?

Anyway to make it not do this every 15 mins.. Keeps reopening iTunes on my PC and it is fricken annoying...

Seriously? It's easily one of the most solid .0 software releases I've ever seen, especially remarkable if we take all the new features into account.

I'd be tempted to do the same. I really hate how laggy my iPad 1 has become.

Is it possible to develop an app for Mac that recognizes your Reminders? I use Anxiety on my MBP but now with Reminders on my iPhone, it's become obsolete. However, I still find myself needing to put reminders on my laptop as well, not just on the mobile.

Wish there was a dedicated Reminders app that popped down from the menubar and synced your stuff automatically. Is this even possible? Perhaps i'm asking in the wrong thread though...

Reminders is part of ical. You can set reminders and see your reminders there.

You can probably turn off that QR Reader backup. I have no clue why an app like that would need to store 85 MB of data. Seeing that, there's probably a bunch of other apps storing a ton of redundant data.

Since my full charge yesterday, I have lost 30% of my battery charge and I've been home and haven't used it much.

Someone else mentioned this but I would really like some type of indicator that I have pending notifications vs having to pull down the notification bar to see it. I would also like a clear all button. Kind of sucks that I also have to hit clear twice to remove a section from the bar.

Photo Stream doesn't back up videos.

Moved my calendars over from Google to iCloud. Lack of to-do (reminders) syncing finally pushed me over. Gmail is still here to stay, but the @me account I'll use as a backup.

Wait, I use Google Calendar but it seems like my Reminders are able to sync through iCloud still. Is that not the case?

I'm trying the Wi-Fi Sync but it's not updating any of my podcasts. >:(

I don't even see the point to be honest. I have to plug in the fucking shit to a power source in order to use it. I might as well plug it to the computer anyway.

I'm sort of in agreement with you but it's not nearly as bad as you think. It needs to be plugged into auto sync. Otherwise you don't need to be plugged in to do a manual sync.

uh probably a dumb question: I haven't really updated my iphone since like 4.3 and I manage all my music/apps manually. When I want to update, it keeps saying that all my apps will be erased so please transfer them to the itunes library. How do I do that?

Danke in advance.

Edit: Found it, thanks anyway! Hope my 3gs can handle ios5!

You can selectively sync iCloud Reminders separately yeah, but I just felt the need to consolidate my calendars and reminders into one.

Is the Reader option on Safari Mobile available for iPod Touch? I can't find it.

Ooooh.

Still discovering nice little changes. The default weather app now uses GPS to make the local weather the default, and selecting any day brings up an hourly forecast.

I decided to turn off Photo Stream. Not being able to delete is a minor annoyance but the big annoyance is not being able to edit and re-upload photos to your photo stream except by saving it as a new photo thus creating a duplicate.

I'll use dropbox until that's fixed.

So it appears that everytime I come home, my phone and iPad automatically are syncing with iTunes through wifi. I don't mind it at all

but I'm just worried that I'll probably tend to forget to press this icon
ZRPIw.png
and It might screw up things when I leave the wifi zone (or disable it and go to 3G)

Do you guys think it'll screw up my devices?
Bump, to see if anyone else knows an answer
