Pretty much, but as I mentioned, once everything's in folders, it's fairly easy to arrange them once more. So it's just the initial trick that is time consuming so it's faster to organize all of the apps into folders from itunes and then manually move the folders on the phone.
Right. I always wished that apple allowed for multitouch when arranging icons, like holding down multiple folders with two or three fingers. It'd make things a bit faster.

Oh how I wished for this too as I was setting up my 4S last Friday night... But, at least it helped kill time while I was waiting to watch Real Steel.

Also, in doing this, I've cleaned house on apps that I never use for the most part.

With ios 5, I realized just how much useless crap I downloaded in the "purchased" tab over the years. God, it's like a wasteland of shit. A lot of these are games that I've bought or downloaded and NEVER even launched.

an email is there but number is still greyed out.

The only reason that specific phone is getting messages is because people are sending messages to that phone number. If they sent messages to your email you would receive messages on all your iOS devices set to receive at that email, and if they sent it to your other phone number only it would receive the messages.

Apple's servers don't automatically route the message to a phone number, the user who is sending the message is specifying what number to send to.

The dark safari look in private browsing is so much better than stock.

It definitely does, but I found that in private browsing, it hates mobile Yahoo mail so I had to go back to stock Safari if I wanted to delete spam.

Shame too as I prefer private browsing overall - both in look and simply using it as an option.

Yahoo mail in the email app?

Yahoo mail mobile site. Won't even load in private browsing and it's damn annoying.
Oh, sorry, I meant would yahoo mail work in the regular email app? Then you wouldn't have to worry about it.

Oh yahoo is already synced to my mail app, but when spam gets past the filter, I usually log into the mobile yahoo site to dispose of it properly.

Regardless, I'm glad for having at least a private browsing option as I found it strange that iOS safari didn't offer it while it's been available in vanilla safari for a while now.

I wish there was an easier way of switching between modes though. As far as I can tell, you have to back all the way out to the settings in order to change it.

Does anyone know if there is a way to get rid of the Newsstand? It's ugly and I don't want it and I can't even hide it in a folder :(
My favorite part is that this thing they're making me keep as a folder also stays open as an app in the taskswitcher. Weird.

Wtf at putting the close tab button right below the back button.

maybe one of you noble scholars can help out a friend of mine:

I only download podcasts through the phone itself, and when I sync up to iTunes I don't want them to transfer from the phone to my computer. After waiting for 60+ podcasts that I had downloaded on my phone to transfer over to my desktop's iTunes, I unchecked the "Sync podcasts" button for the phone settings, deleted all the podcasts from my desktop iTunes since I don't want them there, and then synced my phone again. It deleted all the podcasts off my phone which is no big deal, so I just redownloaded some of them directly to my phone. When I did another test sync to my desktop, it started transferring podcasts from the phone to iTunes again.

Is there some way to make this stop happening?

any suggestions would be appreciated guys

Are you syncing playlists? If so see if any of your playlists contain podcasts, that may be it. I'm not sure though.

I was hoping the music app on iPad would grow on me. It still hasn't. Is getting artists to display in a list a bad request? How about playlists? Come on, Apple! I'll give you kudos for the keyboard and the tabbed browsing. Just let me have the old iPod app back.

Scared. So very scared to update my ipad2.

Why o why is such an elegant device so hard and stress inducing to update.

Upside-if, big if, done without error- no more tethered updates.

Gotta rely on backup really having all my apps.

Remind me- do you to update from cloud or from backup?

Yeah.. still not getting any of my plays syncing to my library. My iPhone plays are going up but my library plays aren't. I can't be the only one experiencing this? It's horribly obnoxious.

So you mean the itunes library is not getting the play count from your phone?

I hate how iOS 5 makes the "Open in..." default option for PDFs in Safari into iBooks. Under iOS 4, after picking GoodReader once, it made that the default. Now I need to press twice more than before to open a PDF in GoodReader from Safari.

Is there a way to fix this?

Correct. Typically when syncing, the audio files will then update the playcount within my iTunes library as well. In this case, that's not happening -- it isn't even recognizing that they've been played (you can see my library shows no files played at all on 10/19 although it's actually been 54).

looks like it's probably just a bug that needs to be squashed. Found this on the Apple forums, so you are not alone:

I am currently wifi syncing right now just to try it out, see what happens.

Good (I guess, sucks for them as well) to know it's affecting Macs too. I posted in the Windows forum but no one from Apple actually looks at those do they? It's just for users to help other users?

I'm not sure. I wouldn't be surprised if they did monitor it though. And you could always shoot an email through the support site as well, I'm sure you'll get a response.

Just to let you know, mine did sync up though. I brought up itunes and my phone popped up, so I compared both libraries and they matched. Just to test I played a song and watched the play count on the phone go up. Then I did a wireless sync and afterwards it went up in the Library too.

My setup right now is a Mac with Snow Leopard (I have my Win 7 machine but dont' sync to that at all) and iOS 5 on the phone. Did a wireless sync.

EDIT: THe only options I have set in iTunes are Open iTunes when this iPhone is connected
and
Sync with this iPhone over Wi-Fi

That's it.

iTunes Match is finally starting to work for me. It's nice to, almost, be able to listen to any of my 20,000+ songs at any time on the go. Probably didn't need to get the 64GB 4S though since I don't need to keep as much music on here at any one time.

Does everyone else have the same bug where the split keyboard forgets its "elevation", or location the first time it's called in each app? I keep having to move it up. It remembers to be split, but it forgets where it was EVERY. SINGLE. TIME.

It's been that way since the last Beta before the GM. And is still like this on the GM/Final.

yea, I experience the same thing. I just assumed the position reset over time. so it is a bug huh?

Am I not understanding this auto download thing... I was hoping that the apps we have downloaded would automatically download the updates and install them so we don't have to separately go into the APP store or sync em

iCloud is still having a lot of problems pushing emails. I woke up this morning and had no email badge alerts and then checked the mail app manually and there were 7 emails inside.

Really frustrating. That's a pretty big issue and I hope apple is working on it. Google seems to show quite a few people having the same problem.

Does Apple have a public email service with iCloud? I could've sworn this was mentioned in the keynote but I haven't seen anywhere to sign up for it.

If you try to activate email on the iCloud preferences on an iDevice, you'll be prompt to sign up for a free @me.com email account.

I have one Japanese iTunes account. Everytime I want to sync I have to logout of my main U.S. account and sign in to my Japanese account because I have one app I have downloaded from there. Is there an easier way to get around this? It's kinda annoying.

A question, I have my ipad, my touch, and my wife's iphone all associated to the same Apple ID account. I want my wife's iphone to have a completely new Apple ID account, but WITHOUT her losing all her contacts, etc.... how can I do this without setting up the phone as a new phone (in IOS5)?

Don't think of them so much as folders, but as collections/albums. And Camera Roll/Saved Pictures is an album that holds every picture saved on the system. Pictures are not mutually exclusive to their album, they can be in several and are not duplicates.

I'm OK with Photo Library holding all of the pictures on the device. But why should Camera Roll include downloaded pictures? Why would I want some pictures of sports cars mixed in with me hanging out with my friends?

Have exactly the same problem. Really frustrating, never had that problem with Mobile Me.

So for some reason starting today, my iTunes keeps giving me a message that it's "stopped working" and proceeds to close on it's own. Anyone else having this issue, or know what I can do about it? I'm completely caught up on updates.
I Take it no one has had this problem but me? I can't even get a response on the Apple forums.

Just converted my MobileMe account to iCloud. What a clusterfuck. I have everything more or less working now but it's pretty shitty that I have to manage two Apple IDs, one for music/apps/etc. and one for iCloud. Why can't they just let you merge or move your purchases over to your iCloud account?

Couldn't you have just made an iCloud account with your Apple ID that you use for purchases?

Anyone else getting a ton of password prompts for the iCloud email account when using Apple Mail on their Macs?

I have the password set in my Mail preferences. Sometimes it works, other times it doesn't.

No, because I already have a MobileMe account (e-mail, etc.).

I had that same problem too, so I decided to just let go of my old MobileMe email and start over again with iCloud. I rarely use my MobileMe/iCloud email anyways and now I have it all under one account.

Yes, all the time. It was so annoying that I turned it off.

Anyone word yet on how Apple is going to handle iTunes accounts with over 25,000 songs when it comes to iTunes Match?

Is your password 6 characters?

Mine is, and I think that might be what's messing it up.

I think I finally have iCloud working the way I want. Was having a few issues with Calendars not syncing properly, but it's fixed and working well now.

I'm still not seeing my Photo Stream on AppleTV though. I'm signed in, it sees my account, but when I check Photo Stream, it says that it is empty and the screen saver defaults to other images. Looking at Photo Stream on my iPad and iPhone, I see over 100 images in there.

Mine is more than 6 and I still get this.
