okay - this is the same crap as it was with Lala - you'll need to have the scanner go through your collection multiple times in order for it to catch songs that it may have missed previously.

if you have a ton of songs missing, you'll have to stop the process at Step 3, then go to the menu and select Update iTunes Match to restart it.

First scan - ~8000 songs matched
Second scan - ~12000 songs matched

i'm now on my third round.

So how do I access the stuff in my cloud from my Windows 7 PC? I don't see the option anywhere on iTunes.... don't tell me I need a Mac computer for this to work...

This is a great tip. I went through again and now it's matched 10k out of 11k I have. At first it only matched 6k. Some more tips:

Deleting songs from iCloud: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4915

Right click the column headers to see if a song was matched or uploaded.

If you have the local files, there's nothing to access.

I see, thanks. Was hoping for this to be integrated into iTunes somehow but I guess going to a website works too.

Word. The way that photo stream works on a PC is pretty lame.
It just automatically uploads your pictures to a folder that you choose, but you can't view your photos from itunes or anything which would be preferable.

on your iPad or iPhone it'll stream while downloading onto the device. the audio track will be saved on the device.

in iTunes you can only download. once that's complete you can then listen to the album.

oh, one last note - the difference in resource usage between iTunes Match scanning on Windows and Mac is noticeable. then again, iTunes has always run better on OSX.

Thanks.

With the beta you could "stream" a song by clicking on it (not clicking "download") and it would cache to your iPhone but not show up as "downloaded."

Is that no longer the case?

Baha, I would love it if my photos just appeared in a folder. I think on osx it has to go through iPhoto. Which is a terrible app, I don't even have it installed.

I kind of want to erase all my local files that were matched and just redownload them from iTunes. Perfect 256kbps AAC encodes, album art, and metadata is enticing me. They keep all my ratings as well so I don't think I have much to lose.

Is there an easy way to go about doing that?

First make a backup of all your current songs.

Then enable the "iCloud Status" column from my previous post. Sort by that column and select all the matched songs. Delete them but then make sure to keep this unchecked:

Then you'll just see your matched songs still there in your library but with an iCloud download button next to them. Select them all, right click, and download.

Ok so what the hell is going on? iTunes keeps starting up randomly on my computer... as if I plugged in my iPhone or something...

Edit: nvm figured it out, I had the "Start iTunes when iPhone is connected to this computer" checked. That plus sync over wifi will make iTunes start randomly.

I think that was only true for a day or two until Apple issued a new beta version that changed it.

So, about this iCloud stuff. Why don't the Pages and Numbers documents I write turn up automatically on the Mac? They do on the iPhone and iPad whenever I edit them, but on Mac, am I supposed to download the documents from iCloud.com all the time, like I just did?

yeah. there is no iCloud integration for the Mac versions of iWork. And who knows what their schedule is to get it integrated.

I think you just saved me many future headaches. Can't wait to get home to see if this fixes my problem!

I don't know if this has been answered, but can you scan harddrives on different computers and have them match with one iTunes account?

I have a shit load of music on my PC, and some on my laptop. I haven't transfered all of my music from my PC to my laptop yet, but I hope it will be unnecessary to do it manually if I can do it through iTunes match.

those are impressive results, out of 8500 songs it matches 2500 songs, and I've scanned a few times now and it hasn't had any improvements

where is "Update iTunes Match" located? I stopped the process at step 3, what menu are you talking about which has that option?

stupid iTunes Match - ripped a copy of Pavement's reissue of Brighten the Corners ages ago, and it was the only Pavement album that didn't get recongized.

take out the perfectly pristine CD, rip it using XLD to ensure a bit-perfect rip, encode it to MP3 and now all but 4 songs are recognized from the rip. redoing those songs doesn't change it at all.

...motherfucker.

Ken: Store -> Update iTunes Match

WHen I go to the store page, just see: iTunes Match (NEW) on the side, and all it does is ask me if I want to add iTunes match to this computer, which I already did

Let me see if I have this straight with iTunes Match. If I subscribe it puts all of my music into iCloud and I can access it from my iPhone where ever I'm at? Also does it work over 3g?

I did it and it didn't increase the match count, not sure what do to from here

free beta? it's pay only.

Ken: that's unfortunate. everytime i re-start the process i'm getting more songs added in - 100 here, 40 or so there. it's an improvement over the old Lala scanner, but not by much.

iTunes Match out http://www.theverge.com/2011/11/14/2561227/itunes-match-now-available

"Apple's pushed its iTunes Match feature live, with a new version of iTunes (10.5.1) to download that will do the magic. The service, which costs $24.99 a year, gives you iTunes Store-quality and cloud availability of all your music, whether you ripped it from a CD, bought it from another store, or, uh, otherwise acquired it. Apple naturally isn't crowing about that latter possibility, but some see the service as a concession to still-rampant piracy. Unlike some cloud services, you can't upload any of your own music. Instead, Apple matches your library up with its own set of tracks in the iTunes store — that saves Apple the hassle of hard drive space, but that sweet album your brother and his band made in 1995 in the rec room won't be available to your other devices through the cloud, you'll still have to sync those the old fashioned way. The service is currently beta, and if you sign up now you get an extra three months free, but at the end of the beta you'll have to start over."

Posted this on the iPhone 4 thread, maybe you guys can help too

I had to restore my phone cause their was a problem with the speaker (I couldn't hear any sound when I answered calls, but the receiver could hear my voice)..so I searched the macforums and they told me to restore the iPhone.

But now, it just keeps showing "restoring iPhone from backup" (It's done in like 4 mins) so it apparently gets restored but it doesn't backup. I've done this process about 5 times now, it just restarts and I have to go back and restart the process of restoring.

That's the Verge being wrong again today about iTunes Match. He was referring to the beta testing period that just ended. Apple Developers could sign up for $25 to beta test it and would get a free 3 months extra for their trouble.

i imagine that means you're paying $25 for 15 months, not 12. there aren't free sign-ups.

so it actually went up by 300 matches, so I'll take that as a good sign, I wasn't paying attention and didn't stop step 3 and I noticed it uploaded 600 songs, will iTunes match still look to match those uploaded songs?

actually, let it go through step 3. it seems to still be verifying the song matches. on my Windows machine it's still uploading album artwork, but the # of songs keep rising at a pretty rapid rate.

will do, how many songs do you have in your music library, out of curiosity?

also, where do I see the songs that are matched?

~20,000

create a smart playlist in iTunes, and make the rule for it as iCloud Status is Matched. You can also change it to iCloud Status is Uploaded to verify what is being transferred.

i've now had iTunes uploading album art in the 3rd step for an hour and only seven obscure jazz tracks have been sent to Apple. in that time it's continuing to match songs.

thanks, but if songs are really being "matched" then why is it uploading artwork?

Here's the playlist I created to get an easy way to replace all low bitrate songs. Note that it will include Amazon songs with variable bitrate that is lower than 256. You may want to make the threshold lower, like 200.

edit: Wait, I'm not doing this quite right.

I asked last page and got no response, but I was wondering how I can send my calendar to my wife's iOS device and have her view it? I cant find an option to send it from iOS, and exporting it on OSX and sending it in an email doesn't work either. Short of sharing an iCloud account (which we dont want to do to avoid confusion), is there a way to send her my calendar?

well i went ahead and broke down and subscribed to iTunes Match, so has anyone figured out the best way to replace all these guys with the higher quality iTunes version:

Looks like iTunes match isn't just looking at the US store when matching. I have some CDs I bought in Japan that aren't available in the US but are in iTunes in Japan match.

I have a whole bunch of songs that should have been matched (i.e. two or three songs from an album where everything else got matched) but were uploaded instead. Running through the match process again doesn't change them. A lot are lower than 256kbps, so I'd rather match them. Is there a way to do that? Can I delete them from iCloud but not from my computer?

Edit: It looks like you can delete the song with the "delete from iCloud" box clicked as well. Choose to "keep files" on the second dialog box. Then re-add the track to the library. When you update iTunes match, it will try to match it again. I'm trying to think of a faster way to do many files though.

when doing this is there any way to specify where the better quality tracks are being re-downloaded to or move them once they are downloaded? I actually prefer keeping my music collection on a separate computer on the network than the one I use iTunes on

edit: never mind found that you can just right click and push open in explorer, will just be an extra step for me to move them where I want them
