iOS 5 & iCloud |OT|

I'm really hoping someone can help me with this. I posted about it twice yesterday, and got nothing.

I downloaded the final beta version of iTunes last week, as well as the Gold Master for my iPhone and iPad 2. All worked just fine.

However, yesterday I decided to update my wife's iPhone. When I go to hit the update button it says that I need a new version of iTunes before updating. I then have it search for an iTunes update, and it tells me I already have the current version. So it won't let me update my wife's phone until I somehow resolve this.

Mine seems unchanged, although obviously the battery was really hammered after install because I had to reinstall a ton of apps, make settings changes, test it out, etc...
Ill do a test today.

Im an expert.

I don't know much about the Betas - that's exactly why I don't bother with many of them - but I'd imagine you are going to have to back up whatever you need to save in iTunes that isn't recoverable from a new install....and then delete itunes and reinstall.

Download iTunes 5 here - http://www.apple.com/itunes/
and install it. You probably had the last beta of iTunes when you installed the GM and you need the public release for your wife's phone.

Swipe over an app in purchased items to hide them!

Thanks. That's what I figured, but I didn't know if my problem might just be related to their server problems last night. I'll try that when I get home tonight! :)

The Twitter app only notifies you of direct messages or @mentions.

Which is pretty idiotic, because there's a lot of people out there who are totally fine with the official app but want all tweets to come in.

I'd backup the phone's stuff, and get the final iTunes release directly from Apple's website and install that then try again.

For the life of me I can't see that working well at all, but that never seems to stop people from wanting it.

Are you really going to swipe four fingers on your tiny iPhone screen, or just hit the damn button?
I think it's just a one-finger swipe 'up', similar to notification center's one-finger swipe 'down'. So that would be kind of awesome on the phone actually, yeah. :(

Question: Does iMessage now essentially allow unlimited texting and picture/video messaging (subject to data usage of course) between all iOS devices internationally? That is, are messages to/from my buddies in the States now free?

Do any Twitter apps notify you of ALL tweets? I'd imagine sending that many push notifications could get expensive (for whatever software co tries to do it, not users).

If I want to add songs from iTunes (that were not bought from iTunes) to my iPhone do I still need to plug the phone in or could that been done now through wifi?

You want notification of all tweets? I guess they could at least make it an option, but I can't even imagine that. Mine would be constantly rolling through with notifications.

Are there iCloud issues with logging in? I try to set up iCloud on my touch, and it told me to verify my email address on Apple's website. I just did that and the website tells me to log back into iCloud on my touch, but when I do it says password not valid? Whaaaaaaaat?

Anybody getting problems in Mail?
I've changed my MobileMe account over to iCloud and all worked fine until about an hour ago. Now, both my Mac and iPad tell me I have the wrong password and I can't get any new messages. Server problems still or something else...?

I just unfollow anyone for whom that would be an issue, and given that you can customize notifications to pop up or not, I don't see as though a constant torrent of notifications would be all that bad. :p

This probably has been asked hundreds of times, but haven't found the answer yet: is there a quick way to tell who in your contact list has iMessages enabled already?

Yeah I've been having the same problem. Just waiting it out.

If you text message them the send button will be blue if they have iMessage. Don't think theres a way to tell from the contact list.

For the mac try deleting your MobileMe mail account. For me there was one for MobileMe and iCloud. Sorry can't help on the iPad, didn't have any issues.

But isn't the point of notifications to pop-up? Or would you just have them appear in the notification center?

I follow a number of folks on Twitter, so for me personally it would just be overwhelming and not that useful. I suppose if you only follow a few people, it wouldn't be a big deal. Seems that it would be more useful to have Facebook notifications.

Airplay Mirroring is one of my favorite new features from IOS5. I had some friends over last night and we were playing around with the feature and hit us how Apple basically sneaked its way into the living room. Isnt this [the living room] what Sony and Microsoft are competing for?

Going to try Skype tonight with AirPlay Mirroring, I'm sure its going to be cool. Having Skype on the TV with other family members would be kinda cool :) Apple bringing apps to AppleTv without really having to get the app on the device itself, super cool.

Angry Birds on your big screen. AB domination complete.

Yep one of the first things I tried actually, we were all surprised how amazing the image/sound was.

And you know what? It felt really natural controlling a 50" tv with an iPad as the 'remote' - only after actually trying a few games and experiencing it I knew Apple was onto something huge.

Where are you putting it in? See if "Manually manage music and videos" is checked under your iPod summary.
This is just dragging into my iTunes library itself, not necessarily dragging from my iTunes library to my iphone. It won't allow me to drag any mp3s into iTunes since the 10.5 update.

Okay, is there really no way to get your iPod/iPhone to sync with iTunes without transferring all your apps onto there? I don't want the apps taking up all the space on my hard drive...

You don't have to sync apps.. you can just uncheck that.

Edit: Oh wait my iTunes does copy apps from my iPhone even if it's unchecked, you're right. Strange.. trying to see if there's any way to disable that.

Edit 2: From what I'm reading there's no way to disable that unfortunately. :/

Yeah, I thought that would work too, but nope! And I checked, and if you delete an app from iTunes, it will indeed delete on your iOS device as well.

I guess I can kiss my hard disk good bye...

What is the point of synching email? Isn't it already in synch on all online devices?
The point isn't to 'sync' e-mail, it's to have a free e-mail account that is set up automatically across your devices by being tied to your Apple ID.

My photo stream is showing up on my AppleTV and my windows PC but still nothing on my iPad. Anyway to force it?

edit:

Also, anyway to add more than one Photo Stream to AppleTV?

"The iCloud IMAP server “p99-imap.mail.me.com” rejected the password for user “lauren”

Enter your password again or cancel."
