Battery life seems to be a little worse after the update.

My battery life is worse. Yesterday the battery drained much faster with the same basic usage as before the update. This morning after only 20 minutes of a few texts, Tiny Tower, and browsing it was already down to 92%. Its my same morning ritual I do and it should have only taken it to 97-98%. I am charging it again and going to monitor it.

Something is making it drain wicked fast. My memory was all used up and apps weren't storing their state. They'd reload each time I went back to them. When I went to close the apps I only had a few open, so that confused me.

Like someone else said, iMessages may be a culprit. They seem to take more battery and really cause a lot of network interference with my speakers even though they should be using the WiFi. I'll have to keep monitoring them and see. I seem to be getting more network interference in general too though. Its really annoying. I can stop it by turning 3G on but I am on WiFi, I shouldn't have to do that, plus it really drains my battery.

EDIT: I tried to do a WiFi sync this morning while not charging, but it said it'd do it when my computer was available. Perhaps it did once I woke my computer up. If that's the case, damn that drains it.

If anyone can help me, all my music apps and everything have dissapeared off my itunes and my iphone. How do i re-download them ?

I don't know that there is an easy way to do that like "download all history". I think you'll have to go download each one. You can bring up your purchase history through your account in the iTunes store to help.

Still, that doesn't make any sense. Your apps are gone from iTunes? I don't think the update can do that. Can you check your trash for them? If it were me, I'd be restoring them from a backup since that'd be easier and faster.

Sync from the computer you loaded the new iOS on. This happened to me as well.

exact same thing happening to me.

error message is:
"The iCloud IMAP server “p99-imap.mail.me.com” rejected the password for user “lauren”

Enter your password again or cancel."
Yup that's the exact message I get too although things do seem to be ok on the iPad now for the moment.....
This whole iCloud thing has been so much hassle :-(

Weird one, Notifications shows me calender info from my PC one and iCloud one, when I have Calender set to just show my PC one (they are the same calender) so in notifications I have everything twice...

WTF?

Here's what worked for me:

Go to appleid.apple.com and change your primary e-mail address. Log into iCloud.com. Then go back to applied.apple.com and change your primary e-mail address back.

Found that method online, and it worked.

Sort of a hassle logging in, but I seem to have it running.

The options for it seem very sparse. So I just select what stuff I want it to sync, and behind the scenes it will do all the work?

Also, any appreciable differences to Safari in Lion as a result?

Check under iCloud > Documents & Data and see if Use Cellular is on. That helped me out a bit.

I figure I'll ask this again since I don't think my original post was answered but:

How do I upgrade to iOS5 if I'm on developer beta 7? iTunes says my beta is the newest firmware, so I'm not quite sure what I'm supposed to be doing. A full restore? Should I be finding the iOS 5 file on the interwebs? HALP!!

You can:

a.) Full restore through iTunes. iTunes will download the iO5 5 GM for your phone.
b.) Download it yourself and restore it that way, skipping the iTunes download step.

Figure I'd ask these again since it's a new days with new eyes:

1) Movies redeemed by codes don't show up as purchased for redownload, is that going to change?

2) How do you clear the notification badge in Newsstand? It's been there all day yesterday and still there today

3) Why is the orientation inverted for Apple's Trailers app?

4) If you do a backup in iTunes, and you have photos pushed to your computer through Photo Stream, are you storing that data twice? In OSX? In Windows?

I'm downloading the file now, thanks. I assume I just click restore while holding down command or something and find the file, right?

Since iOS5 no longer requires iTunes, can I now subscribe to podcasts directly from my Touch?
Hahahahahaha.

No.

Without iTunes you have no idea when podcast update either, and they don't autodownload.

Sharing address book between users on iCloud...

After recommendation from a couple of other sources, I decided to try out creating an iCloud just for our contacts to share between two iPhones.

Duplicating the contacts in our current address groups into the new iCloud address book is a royal pain in the ass. Entries were getting duplicated, not showing up on the cloud properly in their groups and overall it's a messy and overly long process. No, I couldn't believe it either.

However, we now have one iCloud account which is just for our contacts. My primary iCloud will be photos, find my phone etc, and it's cool being able to turn on and off features within the iPhones iCloud settings, per account.

I guess overall iCloud is about sharing between devices, not users, but considering how slickly Apple allow you to share iCal with another Apple ID, I was a little surprised that it's not the case with Contacts.

Still, it's done now!

Like others mentioned you'll be fine.
Just install the official iTunes 10.5 as the beta version will expire.
The GM you (and I) installed is the version that was put on all the new iOS devices shipping out.

Worst is, they will announce it as something big, when they let you do that, while people have been asking this since forever. Would make things so much easier!

I'm thinking I'm gonna move as much of my e-mail as possible over to my iCloud account since the web interface is so simple to use.

I really need to ax one or two of my accounts anyway.

What does Apple's e-mail have over GMail?

Notification Center is a breath of fresh air. Slick presentation and easy execution. Not even 24 hours with it and I'm wondering how I ever had my iPhone without it. I receive constant emails hourly as well as various communication in the form of texts and phone calls -- that doesn't include all the sports I love to follow that now conveniently pops up within notification center. Truly assisting my connected experience... fabulous.

And, ok, I am so happy to have a MARK ALL button. Took way too long. Managing emails is even easier.

I don't see the point of splitting the iPod app into Music and Videos. Feels silly.

Wonder when we'll see more Notification Center Widgets. Don't know if I will use, but as an avid sports fan, I could see widgetting an ESPN Gamecenter type widget that will show play-by-play action for a favorite sports team. I'm not a huge widget fan, normally... but I'm willing to try them in this current format.

That sucks. I guess I'll stick with 4.3 until we have untethered JB for 5.

Yeah, it sucks a bit - but just get podcaster, or instacast, or some other podcast app, they are like 2$, have push notifications, background playing and downloading, etc. much better than dealing with iTMS for podcasts on 4.3. It really is worth the money IMO.

(Tries Instacast...)

Well, it's...somewhat competent. Search is weak and the bluetooth "support" seems an afterthought, but I'll give it a try the rest of the week.

The better question is what doesn't it have.
The answer being ads. That's why I originally paid for MobileMe, and why I will continue to use it as iCloud.

I just need to figure out how to take my old mobileme e-mail and make it work within OS X Mail with iCloud.

It's had the "can't make a connection" lightning bolt next to it for close to two years, and even now I can't get it to connect. it's got like three years worth of e-mail in the inbox that I'm afraid to lose by adding a new account.

Anyone else having issues with purchased ringtones not migrating over to iOS 5? iTunes says the tone is synced, but it does not appear on the phone. Nor does it say I already bought it on the phone, yet I can play it on the computer.

for me, it's because i was managing my music manually. just re-copy the ringtones over to your phone if that's the case.

I think I got iTunes 10.5 now.

Can a kind soul in this thread please tell me, how I upgrade from the iOS5 beta to iOS5 official release? Do I need a IPSW? In case, where?

I'm lost now. =(

It's an honest question. I'm really surprised at the number of people who never touched GMail at this point in time especially if they wanted the functionality that Apple's e-mail is trying to offer with iCloud. It's been there for years on Google.

Can you turn on a conversation view? Can you set a vacation responder? Can you define which folders or labels show up through IMAP? Can you setup a send mail as? Can you set it to forward e-mail to another account? How much storage do you get?

Seriously questions, I really don't know much about Apple's e-mail setup and I wonder how it differs and how it's better. Honestly, I forgot the ads were even in GMail since they're really not in your face and out of the way. I had to go back and look to realize they were still there. Plus the ads don't show up on my desktop or phone, just the web client.

guys, my music is gonna be deleted from my phone once i update, right? i do have everything backed up, i'm not worried about losing anything. but i manage my music manually and i'd like to have the same stuff on there again after i update.

i can create a playlist with all the songs on my phone. but itunes won't let me copy it to the computer. what do i do?

Skype messages aren't showing the notifications up top, only in the notification center. Beejive seems to do both though. All my settings seem to be correct so I'm not sure what's up.

they have to use the IOS5 API ?

I find this one annoying as well. I know it's already done on the iPod Touch, but it was much more simple just having an iPod icon for both.

I noticed since the update, whenever I turn off my iOS device it resets the position of my apps.

I used to be able to make a whole screen empty so that I could completely see my wallpaper, now after I turn off and on the device that whole empty screen is filled with the icons I moved one screen over... it's kinda annoying when we had that figured out 2 major release firmwares ago.

same thing happening to me. Do you have a 3GS?

I never quite understood the point of an @me.com email address. And I mean that literally. I have no idea what the point of it is. Can someone explain it to me? lol

Free push cloud mail with no ads? Why not?

I did an update to iOS 5 with the iPhone 4 of my father. Backed everything up, just like I did with my 3GS. iTunes said that it restores everything from that backup and now my father's iPhone is empty except for one 3rd party app (the preinstalled Apple-Apps are there of course) and he lost all of his music. Contacts, messages and notes are there, though.

What to do now?
