If I've tapped "Don't Allow" for an app asking if I want push notifications, is there any way of getting the prompt back so that I can change that? Declined apps don't appear in the notification area of settings, so I'm stuck.
I would assume that you found Windows distasteful enough by comparison to buy a Mac. Remember all the reasons you bought a Mac over another Windows machine? That's what I'm referring to. You can either pay $15 for the new iPhoto or you could turn back time and buy something that wasn't a Mac, with all the trade-offs that involves for you.Marty Chinn said:What does Windows put me through? Why should I pay for a software that I won't use other than maybe Photo Stream? I tried iPhoto before and didn't like it and everyone even said Picasa was better which is what I use currently.

Part of why you like Apple and its software is because of how streamlined their software and services are. You don't get that way supporting software from almost 3 years ago with a feature it wasn't designed to accommodate in the first place. (and for those who forgot, the preceding version of iPhoto was originally released in January 2009)LyleLanley said:This is ridiculous, I like my Mac and Apple products as much as the next guy, but Windows is a more then competent OS and it's stupid that Apple doesn't let you access your photo stream on their own OS unless you pay to upgrade a photo app when you can do it on Windows for free.
Edit:
Along the same lines, I'm really surprised that there isn't a web interface for photo stream on icloud.com
Marty Chinn said:So the only reason to have a Mac and OSX is if you think Windows is shit? Really? You know the Mac runs Windows too right? You know one doesn't have to own only one OS in their household right?

Don't believe me? Go ask how many people using iCloud on their PCs how many problems they're having with it, Photo Stream included. And then go check what level of support Apple offers for troubleshooting a Windows machine running their software. It soon becomes an unfair comparison to make in perpetuity.
Then run Windows on your Mac. Problem solved.
Yes, he can, but that doesn't mean Apple shouldn't make it easier to access your Photo Stream from a Mac.Terrell said:I would assume that you found Windows distasteful enough by comparison to buy a Mac. I just tried this on an app and it still shows up in the Notification settings, under "Not in Notification Center". Not sure but it should be there.TheDrowningMan said:If I've tapped "Don't Allow" for an app asking if I want push notifications, is there any way of getting the prompt back so that I can change that? Marty Chinn said:Because iCloud had no issues at all with OSX or the iPhone. It was a completely smooth experience for everyone when it launched. Why are we trying to act like this is all Windows fault and not maybe Apple has part of the blame?
If you already have Windows on your Mac, you don't need to leave it booted to Windows for Photo Stream to work. When you regularly boot to Windows for the other things you installed it for, it will pull the photos out of the cloud at that time. As I said, problem solved.Marty Chinn said:Look, I'm one who doesn't pick things based off a company or a platform. I run things based on what's best and I'm willing to try a number of things. So I wanted to try the Apple experience with this and I'm saying I think it sucks that Apple forces you to pay for their own platform but releases a free utility for Windows. Now that computer usually runs in OSX mode most of the time so switching it to Windows for Photo Stream only seems like not an ideal situation. I wanted to set that computer up since it's stationary as the one to take the photos unlike the laptops which are always mobile. There are reasons for wanting to use the Mac in this situation but Apple charging for the feature on one platform over another seems dumb to me.
Why do some Apple fans just like to bend over and take it rather than just call it as it is?
I do agree with the assertion that limiting it entirely to iPhoto seems a tad prickish. I understand the reason WHY they have (consolidation of content into Mac OS X application databases that iTunes uses to sync content back and forth from iOS devices and maintain the "ecosystem" Apple has created across ALL its platforms), and while it's not really a deal-breaker like Marty's making it out to be, I would like to see another option. But given the fact that the current method fits the ecosystem Apple has created within the Mac OS X and iOS experience, I don't see it happening at all. So you either accept it or you don't. Bitching about it won't do anything except annoy everyone else around you, especially when you could see it coming from a mile away with 5-10 years of historic precedent regarding Apple's platform construction.Treefingers said:Yes, he can, but that doesn't mean Apple shouldn't make it easier to access your Photo Stream from a Mac.
I mostly agree with you there, I can see why they've made it an iPhoto/Aperture feature rather than an OS feature.Terrell said:I do agree with the assertion that limiting it entirely to iPhoto seems a tad prickish. The iPhone/iPod Touch didn't recieve any new music app in iOS5, and no, you can't customize it on the iPad.Willeth said:You can recustomise it. Go to more and hit Edit (although I'm going off the assumption that the iPhone Music app has equal functionality).
I've used the instant upload features of Google+ and Skydrive and I can't stand the fact that they don't upload the full size of the images. It's not a replacement for backing up or syncing.Zefah said:Regarding the photo syncing stuff, this is one area where Android claims a flawless victory (assuming you have a Google+ account). RukusProvider said:Is there a way to dismiss notifications on the lock screen? Also, I wish you could bring down the notification page when locked. Anyway to make that happen?
No. That's why it's called a lock screen. You can swipe the individual items to go directly to that application upon unlocking, though.RukusProvider said:Anyone?
I still say it's silly that you have to unlock and then lock your phone to clear them off your lock screen. Dynamite Ringo Matsuri said:Okay, so I've got a question that's always bothered me. Why does iTunes sometimes splinter an album? For example, right now "Relationship of Command" is split into two albums, the first one only contains track 1, while the second album contains tracks 2-13. No matter what I do, I can not seem to merge the album as one, and it transfers to my phone as two albums. If someone can help with this issue I'd greatly appreciate it.
Blargh, I'm running the latest, so 10.5 I think. Just updated to iOS5 to see what all the fuss is about cause I was running tethered JB 4.3.5 anyway. It's annoying as hell because this seems to happen every time I update my iTunes, I would lose album artwork that must be refound on the web (auto find can't find the artwork a lot of the time), or my albums become fragmented and I don't know how to merge them :/quadriplegicjon said:It's an annoying glitch. What version do you have? It hasn't happened to me lately, so I was hoping they fixed it.
I forget how to manually fix it though.. I think I highlighted all the songs, and made them a compilation, then removed the compilation... not sure though.
Suck it up, we need more shit that favors lefties (the superior race).Mike Works said:I really don't see why Apple couldn't give you the option of getting rid of the notification by swiping right to left.

The Windows iCloud client only provides sync functionality though, I'm guessing iPhoto gives you more than that?Marty Chinn said:I still think it sucks that it's a free piece of software for Windows owners but you gotta pay for it on OSX if you don't have the latest iPhoto. What's missing from the current notifications if you don't mind me asking? I have a 4S and an HTC running Android (work) and iOS5 is comfortably the best I've used in terms of lock screen functionality.RukusProvider said:yep. So close yet far enough that now I'm waiting for jailbreak again.

TheDrowningMan said:Surely that's exactly the same as this; inferior if the post below yours is correct. My photos are available for viewing on whichever iOS device I log in to and fully downloaded to my Mac.
Marty Chinn said:For me a couple of things.
1) No way to remove individual or all notifications from the lock screen.
2) No timeline option for the notification tray.
3) No way to organize notifications by when they came in.
4) No way to overall set the limit of notifications rather than by a per app basis.
5) No icon indicators in the info bar.
Not available from any browser or on any other platform other than an Apple device.
Fine, Apple and Windows. What about Linux? Android? Windows Phone 7? PS3? etc? Google+ is available widely across a number of platforms using something as simple as a web browser where as Photo Stream uses proprietary software to access it.TheDrowningMan said:It works on Windows. I think the fact that it gives you full sized images is more important than browser functionality, though that would make for a nice update as long as it can be turned off.

Did you try hitting the "reload" button, top-left in the contacts app on the iPhone? I believe that's how it works. Hope this solves it!The Chef said:Im a little confused with the Contacts in iCloud. So after my phone backed up I went again and logged into iCloud.com and started deleting bloat loads of old contacts of mine (way faster than trying to delete them on the phone itself.)
So it deleted them, and then I locked my phone and plugged it in. I figured this is when it would refresh the contacts and such, but no such luck. I tried hitting the "Backup" button in iCloud but I still have all my old contacts on my phone.
What gives?
I think you answered your own question with this, coupled with the usual Apple mantra of simplicity/no user confusion.Mike Works said:Swiping left to right opens the app...
Mike Works said:How on Earth is swiping left to right to open the app and right to left to close it confusing? Especially when it's a damn notification? You're swiping the app's icon to open it, so if you don't want the notification, you don't swipe the icon. It's the simplest thing in the world.
Not exactly the same because of the latancy. A right click action is near instant where as a swipe has a lot of throw before the action is complete. I say it's no more unusual than some of the gestures that exist already and even if they accidently clear it would still be in their tray.Liu Kang Baking A Pie said:Confusing isn't the right word. Not unless you've synced your iPhone with iTunes when you still had your video on it. Or made a backup to iCloud with the camera reel option on.Shurs said:Accidentally deleted a video I took with the camera off of my phone yesterday.
