It's true. You can turn this off in music settings.
Cool.

Just wondering though, if I kept this on what benefit would this give me over the old way?

I'm confused as to the difference between Artist and Album Artist ..

Some albums have special tracks with different artists but you probably want all the songs listed together.

Alright I'm going to try asking this again, any help would be greatly appreciated.

1.) I manually inputted all my contacts from my old phone onto my iPod Touch.
2.) How do I get these contacts to transfer over to my iCloud account?
3.) Furthermore how do I get these to transfer over to my iPhone 4S?

I feel like the iCloud system is way more complicated than it needs to be. It's pissing me off.

I just use iBooks myself, dragged my .epubs and .pdfs I had since before via iTunes into the "Books" section on the sidebar (I don't sync Books) and they show up as if purchased within iBooks on the phone as normal.

I couldnt get iBooks to work with a couple of pdfs that I need for my class. Bluefire works fine though. I still miss Stanza, but this will work fine. Thanks for the help!

I am pretty sure you just login to your iCloud account on your Touch, make sure contacts is selected under the iCloud settings and backup your touch. Then it automatically appears on your iPhone? I know that they just transferred from my iPhone to my iPad after logging into my account on both devices.

If that doesnt work, you can always use itunes to sync the contacts of your touch to your computer, then sync them to your iphone.

I'm on a 3GS and after the upgrade, the navigation controls on my iPod seem to be missing while I'm playing a song. I used to have a bar that I could slide around to different places in a song as well as a shuffle button. Now all I have are the play, skip forward/backward and volume controls - has anyone else encountered this? Thanks.

Tap on the blank space on the album art and it should pop back up.

I have my notification sound for Twitter set to the default "Tweet" sound.

But when I get a mention on Twitter, it definitely alerts me with a completely different sound.

How do I fix this?

You can't. Only 3rd party apps let you choose a different sound.

Anyone else missing album art that you can't get back? I've lost about 1/3 of my album artwork with the update, and I've tried dragging new art to the phone and just re-importing the songs from itunes, with no luck. Hopefully there's some way to alleviate this.

Anyone know why my pictures are upside down when I move them from my 4s to my pc? I've always held the phone with the volume buttons on the top since you can use the volume up button to snap pics. Am I holding it wrong? Is there a setting I'm missing? I figure it would work like a real camera and that having the volume up on the top makes sense.

I think it's just a bug.

The 'tweet' sound is for a notification that you've sent a tweet from iOS, not that you've received a tweet. You'll need to change the received tweet sound in your Twitter app for that.

Having a problem with some of my audiobooks.
They simply won't play, some just halts at 00:00 forever while others start playing but produces no sound.
All of them work fine in iTunes though, listening to them now.
Tried deleting them off my phone and resyncing but still the same problem with the same books.

What should I do?

Posting this here too since I am in desperate need of help because my iPad isn't working!! :(

I plugged in my iPad to my Win Vista computer and iTunes prompted me to update to iOS 5 to which I gladly obliged. However I got some sort of error (1166 iirc) and now my iPad screen just has an Apple logo and progress bar on it. Won't lock, home button does nothing, and plugging it into my computer doesn't do anything. Any advice on how to fix this?

Best I can tell is you are going to want to go into the iCloud setting on your iPod Touch and hit the back up to iCloud button. From what I've been able to gather, the only way to get those contacts onto your 4S is to wipe the data on your iPhone and tell it you want to restore from an iCloud backup.

I keep having tons of problems trying to fix the album art on my phone on the new iTunes. (It doesn't update after multiple tries) Anyone else?

big Q: how do you 'up' the # of text messages you can store on your phone?

when I had an original EDGE iphone, it was capped at like 1000.

then when i upgraded to a 3G and then a 4, it never mattered, and i had texts stored from like 2008 on the thing.

when I upgraded to iOS 5, the first thing it said was 'you are full. you cannot receive any until you delete others'. so i deleted them all and started anew, sad, but whatever.

just now i got a 'you are full. delete or you will never receive a text again' message. again.

WTF. there has got to be a way to either up the storage limit or do something, this is ridiculous, especially having gone 3 years without ever seeing this message.

I just got my iPhone 4s a couple days ago, and I want to sell my 3Gs. Other than doing a restore to clear all my private data (because I want to sell it as already jailbroken), what special places should I look to make sure I've got everything personal cleared off. I've already deleted my email accounts, signed out of apps, etc. I just want to make sure I get everything.

Thanks!

I have 2 random question, gigs. Are delta app updates live yet? And are iMessages delivered when you're in airplane mode with wifi turned on?

Yes. As long as the device can get on the web, it can receive and send iMessages.

You guys think that they'll do an update with iMessage group chat?

Like maybe a title for the chat, ability to add/remove members, time frames, different colors for each person?

Group chat is awesome, but it's still very basic

Hey guys, I upgraded to iOS 5 a couple of days ago, and I had some kind of error that meant I had to restore my iPad 2. That doesn't bother me too much, but now I am unable to sync it at all. iTunes recognises it, but the sync button is grayed out, and if I try to drag music from my library to the iPad, I get the red circle with the line through it, indicating that it can't be copied there.

Also, if I change any of the settings on the main iPad tab, such as "Manually transfer files", "Sync only ticked songs", etc, and then click on something else, I get the "Settings have been changed. Do you wish to apply these changes?" window. But if I press yes, I see the "Syncing" text at the top of iTunes for a tenth of a second before it immediately disappears and nothing happens.

I have an appointment at a Genius bar at an Apple Store tomorrow, but if any of you guys know what's wrong, or could at least give me some ideas/info, I'd really appreciate it.

Also, if I end up needing to uninstall and reinstall iTunes, how do I go about keeping all of my playlists intact (along with Artist/Album info, Start/Stop times, etc)? It took me AGES setting them all up, and I've already had to do it over again from scratch once in the past. I definitely don't want to do it again.

So I just created a document in Pages and saved it on iCloud. Is there a way to download it directly to my Windows Vista desktop?

So I finally tried out the itunes synching through wifi. Its kind of slow and cumbersome to use, might as well plug the damn thing into my PC. I guess its nice if you don't want wires everywhere.

It's actually a time saver because it's automatic. You don't need to take time going to your computer and sync... you can just plug it in anywhere. It's probably already synced.

And if you manually sync, you don't have to give up using your phone while the PC is syncing... just walk about your house doing your business.

It's a gamer changer for me.

Sure, though I have a huge library of music so I go the manual route. That's really the only reason I hook it up in the first place. Plus my PC takes ages to find the phone on my network. I can see it being a great feature for some, for sure.

I recently purchased an iPhone 4S and am absolutely loving the device and iOS 5. However, there is one configuration option that I would really like to have implemented in a future update.

Many applications in the App Store support a variety of languages. However, most of these applications automatically decide which language to display based on the language the user has set for the operating system. In order to get the application to display in another supported language, the user has to change their operating system's display language, which can be a rather annoying process.

I don't know what technical issues could make implementing this difficult, but I think it would be great if we could set the display language on a per-application basis. Offering a simple option in the settings screen for each application would make the user experience for multilingual users that much better.

You have to disable it first.

You can turn on wifi in Airplane mode. Airplane mode just turns it off by default. Just go back into settings to re-enable it.

i've been holding off on activating the mail feature for icloud because i have an old mobileme id (not my main apple id that i made the icloud account with). i thought if i waited, apple would create an option to merge the accounts somehow and have my old mobileme be my icloud mail address.

should i just suck it up and make a new email to use with icloud mail? it'll just bug the shit out of me because all of my emails are the same name haha. i really want to have it sync my notes between my iphone and mac though.

That's a good point. I was also wondering if there was a way to add two languages to autocorrect? It's a bit annoying when trying to type in spanish and having to tap every single word so that it doesn't change it.

Hmm, I'm noticing a delay in pushing mail at the moment - anyone else having the same (Gmail here by the way). I'll get a mail notice on my desktop without anything popping up on the phone, but when I go to the phone and unlock it I immediately get the notification - almost as if it's checking when I unlock the phone.

I have been having this problem for a few days too. Are you on wifi? I think it only happens when I am on wifi.

I was just testing out the Restrictions settings and when I disabled them again, all my apps lost their organization and are no longer in folders. Any way I can fix that without having to do so manually? Ugh.

It's happening to me with both. I'm 3G at the moment though (and the signal here is amazing, I'm getting ~9Mbps speeds). Are you Gmail as well? Perhaps it's a Gmail issue rather than iOS?

Hmmm, I am gmail as well. Maybe try turning on your icloud email and see if it has the same issue.

My iPad (1) is continuously asking me to verify my password for iCloud backup. My iPhone 3GS does not require this ever. What's happening here?
Using the same Apple ID for both? If so it should ask once for your password the first time you backup. Dunno why it would do it more than that though.

Do you guys use Auto-Brightness on or off? And also do you use fetch or push for your mails?
I just want to know how much do these options affect battery life
