Hope I won't regret updating with no Google Maps app in sight...

I'll be a happy camper! It's just that the youtube app being released early made me expect the maps one before iOS 6 hits officially. If we don't get it by tomorrow I hope it's out at least until the end of this week. What if it comes tomorrow?
I just want a blank no apps front screen, oh well, my single app (the calendar) idea is ok.
Just waiting for google to release googlemaps app already, Maps has improved from beta 1 to golden master, but still it ain't no googlemaps.
Nooooo! A few minutes after I have to leave for work. So will have to download it when my shift is over.Oh ok, thank you. So 1PM EST.
Probably better off that way. I can only imagine how slow the update is going to be when it first hits and everybody downloads it at once.Nooooo! A few minutes after I have to leave for work. So will have to download it when my shift is over.
Overreaction much? It's day zero.
The biggest drawback I found is the new Maps app. Apple has replaced Google Maps with a new maps app of its own. This app has one huge advantage over the iPhone version of Google Mapsit now offers free, voice-prompted, turn-by-turn navigation. Google had made this available on its Android phones, but not the iPhone. Apples navigation worked very well, with clear directions displayed as large green highway signs.
But the app is in other ways a step backward from the familiar Google app. For instance, while Apples maps feature a 3-D Flyover view of some central cities, they lack Googles very useful ground-level photographic street views. And they also lack public-transit routing. Apple will instead link you to third-party transit apps. Also, while I found Apples maps accurate, they tend to default to a more zoomed-in view than Googles, making them look emptier until you zoom out.
Anyone know when the download goes live?
Tried out turn-by-turn again, keeping an eye on the battery. On a 10-minute drive on a straight path with two turns, it ate up 5%.
I'm not trying to be a jerk, but any time I use any mapping or gps while in my car, my phone is charging. I consider my car a secondary charging station.

After 1PM ET/10AM PT.
I don't see how you're being a jerk, Alex. lol
I lack a charger, but I wanted to see how much battery it would eat up on my drive earlier.

Yes, my 4S also got pretty hot. Though, it's been an ongoing problem for me for some time now (4S gets hot, but nothing is running and the phone is on sleep).
Question is whether it's due to Siri processor use in conjunction to GPS antenna consumption, or some other reason.
No, that battery use is normal for turn by turn.
It goes by the first message in the whole series, so you must have sent a message from your phone number on your phone first. You have to send a new message from your phone from your email.Having trouble with iMessages. Okay, so I use Messages on my iPhone, iPad and Mac. When I send from my Mac or my iPad to my brother, he gets the messages as a separate message group on his iPhone.
Why wouldn't they be combined as one? He claims he has my email address in my contact...

Quick, have you made any observations about the data use for turn-by-turn at all?

It seems to cache a lot. When I tested on the 4S, turning off cellular data, it could still have map data for a mile or two, and kept the directions on pace. It would even re-route me if I specifically made multiple wrong turns. You can eventually get it to try to ask the server again, and/or lose map data, if you keep going too long without data.Quick, have you made any observations about the data use for turn-by-turn at all?
I wonder if icloud.com, iPhoto iOS/OS X will be switched over to Apple maps from google anytime soon.

Traffic information has been getting better as the week as been going on (I'm assuming more and more people are installing GM?)
