iOS 8 |OT| Huge for developers. Massive for everyone else.

Did anyone else on the 8.4 beta get a pop up asking you to start the 3 month trial of Apple Music? Just got it, tapped start and then you get the option of choosing either individual or family for once the trial is up. Naturally choosing either does nothing at this point and I couldn't progress any further. Weird though, it just popped up when I opened my music app, not with an update or anything. I should have taken screenshots, I can't get it to reappear now.

Just a quick question:

How many of you guys use iCloud backup for your iPhone compared to the old fashion way of backing up your iPhone to your computer? I'm asking cause I'm interested in backing up my iPhone on iCloud.

I do BOTH iCloud automatic backup and local manual computer backup (encrypted) through iTunes.

The iCloud automatic backup is done almost every night while my iPhone is on charge and connected to wifi. The manual backup is backed up to my iTunes every week or so. I normally plug my iPhone into my computer about two times a week (to transfer photos, copy over new movies and TV shows etc) so I also do a manual backup then.

I backup to iCloud, but to be honest aside from pictures (which I upload to OneDrive) I don't care if I lose what else is on there (because there's nothing on there). Makes it much less painful if I need/want to do a complete reset for some reason.

I love how Safari immediately deletes a bookmark's icon when you tap it while the server is not available, yet it never redownloads it when the server is back up. Gotta delete the bookmark and create a new one.

According to Airbnb's Head of Mobile Engineering, users share way less content if the system share sheet of iOS is used instead of their custom one. Not surprised by that. In my opinion, the system share sheet is visually unappealing, clunky and slightly confusing.

No need to delete and recreate it. Editing the bookmark works too. The icon is downloaded immediately, so it's not necessary to actually edit anything.

Anyone else experiencing a sorting bug in the new Music app? If you select "Artists" as the sorting option, it correctly sorts and groups my albums based on the artist naming. If I switch over to "Albums" as the sorting option though, the only thing that changes is that the album title is used, but the sorting is still done on the artist name. This BLOOOOWS.

My phone has been stuck at "Update Requested..." and "Estimating time remaining..." for hours with no progress at all. Even after a reboot. I can't even stop it.

That's something you can change in the music settings. You can sort albums by album name or album artist

Got an iPhone 5C for work recently, and one thing is really annoying me.

Is it possible to have a "you have new email" notification visible on the lock screen? It's a bit annoying to have to unlock the phone just to check if there's any emails.

Settings > Notifications > Mail. Should be a switch for lock screen visibility in there.

You had the 8.4 beta installed? If so delete the beta profile from settings-general, restart your phone, and head back into software update. That should fix it.

You shouldn't have to do this. I had beta 8.4 and the update went through fine. Couldn't this simply be that the servers are being hammered by people updating?

I can tell you at 11:00 this morning that I couldn't get the update to download and as soon as I removed the beta profile and restarted it started working. Know of at least 4 other people that did the same thing and it triggered the download. Could be a coincidence though.

I had to do the same thing also. I just re download the profile after the update.

not sure this is the best thread to ask for help in with regards to my issue but I'm hoping you can help nonetheless.

I used to be a subscriber to me.com and as a result have a @me.com address. I also have an iTunes account which is registered to my gmail.com account. Essentially all purchases have been made through the gmail.com apple account but i use the email on the @me (well now @icloud account).

i want to once and for all sort of merge all this into one account sort of as I'm sick of my photos not being sync'd between my laptop and iPhone due to logging in with different accounts.

Is the best thing to do as my purchases were made on the gmail account to make all my devices use that iCloud account and then manually set up mail for my iCloud account afterwards?

I can't watch videos from my iCloud Photo Library anymore. It says "Operation could not be completed" when I tap the play button.

edit: Works again.

Deleting the beta profile seems to have kicked my phone in the ass and made it stop "waiting" and is now finally downloading the update.

I'll have to install the profile again though for when the iOS 9 PB starts in a few weeks.

Odd that some people have to do this, mine went fine even with the profile installed.

It is strange. But it worked. After I deleted it, it still said "requested". And when I clicked "check for update" in iTunes it said it was up to date. I had to reboot the phone, and it still said "requested" for a few minutes. Finally kicked in correctly when I quit Preferences and relaunched it. Finally switched back to the "Download and Install" button. Downloading now. Taking forever. Hoping it doesn't screw up again.

Hi guys, I went to 8.4 the other day from 8.1 and have this weird glitch at the bottom of my dock. It's extremely annoying to me. It's only there with this wallpaper, the same one i had on 8.1 with no issues. It also goes away if I zoom in on the picture and enable perspective zoom. I don't want to do that. I don't understand why it's there in the first place. Any tips?

Look at the bottom and bottom right edges of the screen

Could someone please try to reproduce this?

Open this link on an iPhone: https://www.google.com/maps
It should work just fine.

Then try this one: https://www.google.at/maps
That's the Austrian Google Maps page, obviously. When I try to open it (either directly using this link or from the Google search results page), this happens:

I have the same issue with my iPad, but on the lockscreen. See my post at the top of this page.

Hm, yea looks similar. Have you tried moving the wallpaper around and also doing the perspective zoom? Wait, is that even an option on the lock screen..It only happens with this ONE wallpaper, and wasn't like this before. Super annoying.

AT google works for me in Safari

so...can anyone tell me how to shuffle songs on the new music app? I always listened to music by going to Songs tab and clicking shuffle, but I don't see that option now. All I can figure out to do is to pick a song and then it'll shuffle from that one.

I also don't see a shuffle option for a few artists where I have more than a couple of albums. It shows up for most artists but the ones that actually have a lot of content where I'd actually need shuffle, I don't see it.

@Amazon:
"Fixed Bugs" as a major release? Are you serious?

@Apple:
"7.07.2015"? What's this weird date format? A leading zero for the month, but not for the day?

I assume someone at Amazon was just lazy inputting text into the localizations area of the app for that update. But - there's only 2 things listed in the US update text; you can now shop in Mexico via the app and you can add Amazon gift cards to Your Account using the camera. Maybe those 2 features don't work in your region?

Amazon US is a different app altogether. Different features.

Edit: they might have merged the apps actually. Nvm

New iTouch out next week might have an A7 or higher processor:

http://9to5mac.com/2015/07/10/ipod-refresh-14-july/

Guess apple finally figured the A5 was too long in the tooth.

Seriously. iOS 8.4 runs well enough on the 5th gen, but still with some slow-downs at times.

I'd be surprised if they increase the screen size to 4.7", but that also would be a nice update. Since using the iPhone 6, the 4" screens of the 5s and 5th gen just look way too small now.

wtf... For some reason I can't get some of the songs in my itunes play list to sync to my phone...

My playlist in itunes has 57 songs, the same playlist on my phone has 55.

Both the missing songs are actually on my phone (I can listen to them if I filter by artist) but they just won't show up in my playlist. I tried deleting them and re-adding them, duplicating the playlist, etc... It just won't sync... wtf

Edit: Ok, fixed it by removing all my music from my phone and then re-syncing everything... Well this was annoying.

Anybody having bad battery problems on an iPhone 5S after updating to iOS 8.4?

My girlfriend did a test. She uses a 5S and went to bed with her phone on 100% battery. When she woke up 7 hours later she was on 34%. Losing over 60% battery overnight isn't right.

Has she checked the battery usage tab? Maybe it's rogue app deciding it wants more juice or is running in the background. At one point Skype was a big offender on my phone.
