iOS Gaming August 2016 | A sever-ly hot summer

Anyone pick up Eisenhorn: Xenos yet? Curious how it turned out on iOS. Probably picking it up but gotta clear out 3 GB or so of space.

PT review (4/5) sounds good

Rapidly, it becomes clear that there's a lot more complexity to that card engine than it first appears. Some decisions can have knock on effects, for example. If you marry a princess, she might bear you a child of either gender. If she does, you'll have to decide whether to accept your offspring or reject them in favour of producing an heir. Other cards can have longer lasting consequences. Building a school or hospital can hit your finances hard, but it'll affect the outcomes of choices made by your successors.
Eventually you also uncover cards that add new gameplay elements. This is where Reigns shines, showcasing many imaginative ways of making binary choices as diverse as possible. There are gambling and duelling mini-games. There are hallucinogens and diseases which will upset your understanding of the world around you. There are even dungeons to explore and spells to cast. As the centuries roll by, your tale of years will begin to include some extraordinary and memorable moments.

Ravenous Games' Journey Below also just came out. After a somewhat dry spell, things are getting crazy again. Too many good releases!

On another note, I see the iOS version of Superhot is on sale for $1.99. Never quite understood the buzz on the game, but is it worth picking up?

Made a thread for Reigns

Any iOS version of SuperHOT isn't worth picking up, because there isn't one. Those are all clones or scams

Okay, Reigns is awesome. It's super simple to play, but there are a lot of events and the game adds new cards and events into the mix as you progress, so later playthroughs become more varied. Not only that, the developer cleverly takes the left-right card mechanic and uses it for a number of different mechanics and scenarios, from Sorcery-style dueling where you can learn new moves to use in future fights to dungeon crawling with different paths and loot to find

But the core card kingdom concept is solid too. There's enough connectivity between your choices that you do need to put thought into your choices, and crazy events and modifiers pop up that effect how you play and what choices are available

Superhot is out for iOS? Wut? Is it that slow mo FPS where they only move when you move?

At this point I'm just waiting for Lumines and Batman to come out next month. And that card game on August 25.

Damn it, killercow and More_Badass, I bought Reigns. I haven't been following the game but remember someone comparing it to Tinder in the last thread lol. I didn't realize it was from the same guys as Downwell either.

Mildly interestingly, the app size is 101 MB but I was able to download it without wi-fi.
Well, same publisher as Downwell. Different developer

First impressions of Journey Below: Meh, it has some cool inspirations from Downwell like upgrading every level and procedurally generated levels but at the same time there really isn't much to the game. The game has a total of maybe 13 different enemy types max and the upgrades are also very few to the point where I've seen the same set of upgrades to choose from multiple times. Have only gotten to the boss once so far but once I beat him I don't know if the game will stay much longer on my device.

Thanks for the imps. Might hold off on it now.

So...

Möbius Final Fantasy might be one of the most pointless games I've played in a long, long time. It's a clicker with an auto-option, a worthless story, and an endless supply of various little things that you gain painfully slowly through game progression, but can speed up and just purchase with real money. It's needlessly complicated in its mechanisms, as well. I'm having a very, very hard time understanding what the point of the whole thing is, really.

Excited to finally play Reigns, though!

It really does feel like a waste of some fairly impressive visuals.

Reigns is really great, just completed a really long reign and it continues to be a surprisingly varied and somewhat complex experience given the simple mechanic of swiping left and right.

Hotly recommended.

SBK 16 got a patch on ios last week. They fixed some CTD issues and the on-board view, pulling the FOV back. There was probably more included, but those were the ones I noticed immediately.

Great game if anyone is a MotoGP or World Superbike fan.

I bought Fahrenheit / Indigo Prophecy (on sale) and so far it runs great. It was a favorite of mine on the PS2 but I can still appreciate it for what it is today. I'm not obe of those having trouble or complaining about virtual touch controls, so to me, it feels good.

I like that you get your options at the top, and then have to swipe in a direction to select the thing you want to do. Unfortunately the QTR's have ugly red/yellow/blue/green interface but that's probably just to make it easier for you to deal with during intense moments.

I love all the 5-star reviews for it. People clearly didn't play it.

no reviews for it in the India store heh.

Re: Superhot and other scam apps in general, the seller's name usually gives it away. Not knowing who the fuck Ray Wenderkluich is, aside from a scamming piece of shit, is a red flag.

I don't understand how these apps make it past Apple's app review process -- even before they shortened it down to 24 hours or whatever it is now.

Yea. Apple doesn't allow changign screens /description after approval either iirc. Weird that this shit made it passed the,m.

Sorry about that man. Shouldn't have posted without checking first.

Don't feel bad. I posted it too after seeing it pop up as a price drop in AppZapp. I should have realized it myself figuring a Superhot port would certainly have been a topic of conversation here.

Scams suck. And if you think it's bad on iOS, it's 100x worse on Android with Google Play seemingly having almost no quality control at times.

Double post but, I'm enjoying Reigns. Two things that are bugging me about it are that the music and sound volume sliders in the settings menu don't work and, unlike Whose Line Is It Anyway, everything's made up but only the points matter (trying to balance the four areas).

The progression system is well done and similar to Dream Quest. The varied achievements and the sheer amount of unlockable cards entices you to keep playing.

I asked about the sound issue on Twitter and was told it was a bug and that the patch is with Apple at the moment so hopefully it'll be available soon.

Got to number 3 in the world in Reigns last night (95 years and then 98 years), but woke up this morning to 7th place and now 8th place. The 98 years wasn't even from old age like the 95 was...

It's very good, but I did hit a point after a few hours where everything started to feel pretty repetitive/futile. But after that came a point where I suddenly got a much better inclination of how to survive (with clearly good results), and since then it's been more enjoyable.

Added next week's exciting releases to the OT

Just was browsing TA and discovered this cool dungeon builder coming next week: Dungeon Warfare.

At first glance I thought it was just a normal TD game, which is a genre I'm all burnt out on, but checking the game's steam page surprised me. Nothing but glowing reviews for with many reviews stating how fun and deep the dungeon building mechanics are. This is, *sigh*, another game I may have to pick up next week.
