Get the fuck out of here with this "the future of gaming" and "best place to play games" shit.
You like it, fine. But this complex that mobile game fans have like the rest of us have no choice, were going to come kicking and screaming with you into the apple utopia and learn to love it needs to be stopped.
What complex? I'm sorry, but that is some pretty backwards thinking
I've played on console since I was a kid. I love PC gaming. And I love IOS gaming. I probably play IOS and PC games equally
IOS isn't the best platform by a long shot and I certainly don't think it's the future of gaming. But it is a viable platform with many great games. Yes, it's infested with shovelware and clones and shit like that, but there are dozens of great original games from developers who actually care about making good games, not sucking wallets dry with some offensive business model
As for PC gaming, it's quite hypocritical to point at Steam when PC gaming is far more encompassing than that. The hundreds, thousands of flash games and freeware games make up PC gaming too. How can one say IOS is nothing but crap, shallow, shovelware compared to other platforms when PC has an equally wide selection of quick shallow games, shovelware titles, shitty flash games, and poorly made freeware titles. And just like PC, there are the quality experiences that stand out from the rest
What frustrates me, and I'm sure it's what drove the OP to make this thread, is how IOS is so quickly dismissed when there are good games, games that play to the strengths of that platform, by closed minded individuals who only play a few games and think that represents all the platform has to offer or can offer
Personally I think the opinion that touch controls always sucks is subjective more than anything else. I can play games with touch controls just fine. I hated mouse and keyboard when I first got into PC gaming. Hated it. It was uncomfortable. Playing FPS's with a mouse was just unwieldly and frustrating. Using the keyboard and trying to move while also pressing shift and/or controls was like twister with my fingers. Now after playing PC games for a year, mouse and keyboard is my favorite control scheme. And yet even now, I still prefer analogue sticks for shooters.
So I think that the hate for touch controls is more of idk, simply being used to other controls. I was playing IOS games for longer than I have spent as a serious PC gamer, thus touch controls feel natural, and intitutive for some games. Hell, I was able to beat Veni Vidi Venci in VVVVVV
