Anyone play MadOut Metal? There's a sequel out today, MadOut Ice Storm. Neither game is the most polished racer around. Even the new one, which I had hoped would eliminate some of the framerate dips from the first game, may have better graphics and improved menus but still suffers from slowdown.

That said the games are really fun if for the mere fact that there are so few combat racing games on iOS.

Ice Storm is crashing on me on the third level. Wanted to see if anyone here by any chance has it and if they are experiencing the same thing. Appears users on another forum are having them on iPad (I am using a Mini 2).

The first game also got punishingly difficult by the third tier races.

Sounds like I'm complaining a lot but I just can't help myself from getting even half decent car combat games.

Adult Swim's got a new game out tonight. It's called Try Harder - a mobile version of a Flash game by Glitchnap. It's free, and has a purchase to turn off ads. It is a runner where your bodies from previous tries stack up (and you can use them as stairs).

There are 5 codes to download it now in this post, quote to reveal.

Oh wow, the same developer that made the truly fantastic iOS game Monsters Ate My Condo (an all time favorite of mine, too bad is not iPhone 6 optimized)? or Castle Doombad? or Super Mole Escape? or Bring me Sandwiches? Wonderful iOS studio if you ask me... If so, I am in for a treat!
Redeemed X3A3AR4FNE4M thanks :)

Well, same publisher - not same studio (this one is Glitchnap). The others you mentioned are by Grumpyface Studios, and indeed they are a wonderful iOS studio! :D

Hey now, one of those is by PikPok :)

D'oh, oops! Yes, PikPok is Monsters Ate My Condo (and many other awesome games that we've published!). Doombad and Mole Escape are Grumpyface. Both extremely awesome developers we've had the pleasure to work on games with! :D

So yeah, Hearthstone has finally pulled me in for real.

Goodbye other iOS games, for now...

Yeah, I'm back at the game too after a year or so. Currently I'm grinding coins for the first Wing of Naxxaramas. Kind of getting obsessed about it, even installed on my PC and Android phone. I wish my iPad Mini 2 could run the game at 60 FPS like PC... so smooth.

Yes, it's great if you want a well-designed solitaire card game.

Well, again, just to set expectations, it really isn't solitaire per sae. It shares the fact that you use a 52 card deck, but you aren't putting 4s on top 5s and all that stuff. It's more using the card values to attack and defend.

It's really fun. Just isn't solitaire in the same way that something like Fairway Solitaire is (and even that has some differences but it's much closer to its namesake).

But by all means if you like card games at all with a dungeon crawling twist - - buy it!!!

The $. 99 mark is a steal for a great game made even better with the update.

Card Crawl is excellent imho, it's my to go game now.
Game are superfast and you aren't even done you already want to do another run.
The app is super polished (I love those little cards icon in the top left).
I do not feel it like a solitaire game, more a rogue like with cards, but maybe it's just me.

You basically have to pass rooms made by 4 cards...some good, some bad....till all cards are eliminated/used.
To proceed to the next room you have to 'use' 3 out of 4 cards...
Monsters are eliminated by letting them attacking you (you have 13 HP at start) or attacking them yourself (with swords or shields or magical powers).
Items are used when placed on your 2 slots (2 hands plus you have one backpack).

The game at first is incredibly easy (meaning: you make to the end of the dungeon) till you realize that to beat your score you have to trash useful objects....so the typical situation is that you have a 10 HP monster, a 7 HP sword, a 3 HP potion and a 10 Gold coffin.
Your hands are full with 2 shields already, backpack is empty.

So...you have to decide what cards to use: let the enemy attack you? (emptying a hand to fill it with the sword)...or trashing the sword to score precious points and use the potion...or trashing both, getting the coins and hope next wave will be manageable...etc...

It's a push your luck game with some strategy making you take hard decisions at every turn.

That is the normal mode.
Just winning you accumulate points that you use to unlock the special cards...thare are many but only 5 are mixed in the deck.
Normal mode choose those at random between the unlocked ones, constructed mode let you pick up the 5 (so you build your deck).

Yesterday they added a quest of the day which consist in a fixed deck you can try once and quests that unlocks various avatars (I have yet to try those).
Plus they added more special cards and new monsters cards.

An awesome update to an already awesome game.

If you think you could like all that above...do no esitate to buy the game, sale or not.

So using emulators is a thing now with the new xcode allowing to build and run apps on your phone without a developer account?

Anyone tried it? What open source emulators do exist?

First post on NeoGAF and this is my first subscribed thread. :D

I always check out the monthly threads and they've given me so many recommendations that I otherwise wouldn't have known.

Just bought Card Crawl and playing Skiing Yeti Mountain during my commutes to work

Welcome and glad you've found these threads helpful!

If you're into PC indie games as well, there's a monthly thread for those too. Here's June

Great post, as usual

About the daily dungeon, maybe it's a second language fail on my part but I thought it was the equivalent of Spelunky daily mode... except it's not. Daily dungeons can be replayed as much as you want it seems. Not automatically a bad thing, some people more cerebral than me could take pleasure in trying different tactics to see if they can better their score. All in all, an experience more suited to what is Card Crawl than a daily permadeath run, I think.

The new quests were a letdown at first, but there is sound logic to it and all in all I think the dev choose the right path. They clearly aimed at high level players who have already played the game to hell and back. So while I was a little sad to see most of the new stuff didn't matter to me, the overall longevity of the game is even better now. Unlocking the new dealers and avatars will add a layer of goal once players have seen what the base game has to offer.

On another note, I tried Hearthstone for the first time since the early days of the game and also for the first time on Ipad...
...
What is this shit ?
I understand that the game has evolved in a grind fest or ultra premium hobby. I would think they could have priced some things gentler, and that's an understatement, but hey. No, my problem is technical. On an Ipad 4 the whole thing is a technical mess of the highest order. I don't know, maybe I'm underselling the game on a technical level, but I never imagined it to perform as slowly on my tablet. Good god. I think playing the game again was interesting enough to give me the will to replay it... on PC. I don't even want to think about deck building on iOS with the general slowness of the game's UI.

There are no slowdown or hiccup on my iPad Mini retina. On PC it's smoother though, since it's 60 fps. I think it's 60 fps on iPad Air 2 too. On my Galaxy S4 it's pretty slow.

Oh! so that's why it feels sluggish in comparison, its 30 fps on the ipad mini then?

Worth noting :
- Desktop Dungeon is discounted at a ridiculous 10% off. But the game JUST came out and it feels so good to rant about pricing on iOS. All in all a nice gesture from the dev.
- Desktop Dungeons, Transistor, still a lot of must buy for me. But the stars are right at last, the old one is waking and I must wait for steam to show its cards before buying anything ^_^

On the iPad Mini retina the game is 30 fps, yes. Never tried on a regular Mini though. I assume it doesn't run very well.

On a Mini 2, I think it does run at 60 FPS as well. Don't currently have it on my device though.

There was an update recently that really made the game run beautifully (IMO) on devices that support Metal. Hence the reason why it would run better on devices from the iPad Air and Mini 2+ as well as iPhone 6 than it would on the original Mini retina or an iPad 4.

No, it definitely doesn't. I play the game on the mini retina and it's 30 fps. On my PC it's 60 fps, much smoother. I prefer confy couch for the game though, so I generally stick with the iPad even though it runs worse.

Anyone playing Nubs' Adventure? I'm stuck. Progress is showing 38%. Basically I'm wondering if it's possible to make this jump or if I'm going about this wrong.

Maybe I'm getting confused. I also have played it on my Shield Tablet. But I could have sworn they had an update for better framerates, etc. on Metal devices. But now that I look on the App Store, I don't see it in their release history. Maybe I read about it coming? Oh well, probably just losing my mind,

They did release an update which improved framerate, but only for iPad Air 2 and (I think) iPhone 6. I don't think it's related to Metal, just better opmization for stronger devices.

Must be glorious 60 fps on your Shield too. I'm jelly.

edit: it was a 64 bit upgrade. Here:

Remember folks, mobile has no real games, no lengthy or good experiences, and the ports always suck

You know, I am always on the hunt for good mobile games and it's ALWAYS hit or miss but I completely agree. Especially with how often mobile hardware gets iterated on. Every year there's better hardware that allows better games.

I just get discouraged because of all of the freemium crap.

Li Kao, how do you repeat the daily dungeon in Card Crawl?
I get one try per device.
If I retry (even if I died, like today) I get a message you can do it just once.

On a side note Heartsone is pretty flawless on both my Air and iPhone 6.
Since last update I can't really distinguish it from the desktop version but I do not play it a lot like in the past so maybe I'm just wrong.
